Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion

Rating: 4.2 (239 votes cast)

Prepare to defend all you hold dear against the Sunset Invasion!

It is the late 13th century and Europe is still reeling from the shock of the all-conquering Mongol Hordes. But, just as the lords of the West breathe a sigh of relief, another threat looms on the horizon; literally. Strange ships have been sighted all along the Atlantic coast, bearing symbols never before seen in the known world; winged serpents and grinning skulls. As the sun sets on the shores of Morocco, Portugal and Ireland, the largest fleet that has ever set sail approaches land, ready to invade in the name of bloodthirsty gods...

Crusader Kings II: Sunset Invasion is the third DLC expansion for the critically praised strategy/RPG Crusader Kings II. This fantasy scenario marks Paradox Development Studios first departure from history. Hearing of Europe from travelling Northmen, the blood drenched Aztec Civilization has risen early and now spread like a virulent plague. Prepare to defend all you hold dear against the Sunset Invasion!

Crusader Kings II explores one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by Paradox Development Studio, masters of Grand Strategy. Medieval Europe is brought to life in this epic game of knights, schemes, and thrones.

Probably my least favorite DLC but it is nice to see another pagan religion. Ireland is no longer safe from invading forces. The new portraits are nice addition. Discounted today at $1.25 it's hard to pass up.

Defending an invasion threatening Europe is a pretty decent idea for a DLC, but having Aztec as the invader is a bit odd. Aztec just does not seem to have enough military power and technology to invade Europe. Maybe an invasion from the far east will sound more plausible.

Well worth it if you are tired of the same old "realism" of CKII vanilla, Throws a monkey wrench into your plans if you play as Ireland. Extremely fun and the flavor events are morbidly funny.

It doesn't add any new gameplay features, but does add an interesting "fantasy" scenario wherein the Aztecs invade Europe. Quite fun actually, especially the event chains involving human sacrifice and can really liven up that mid to late game period that I often find can be a little stale. Another excellent addition to Paradox's best ever game

Unlike the previous DLCs, Sword of Islam and Legacy of Rome, this DLC does not provide the player with any extra gameplay changes. Instead, it adds a different invader, this time from the west. The DLC adds an extra challenge for those close to the Atlantic Ocean. A fun quirk, but not necessary.

This DLC adds the invation of the Aztec Civilization. They are a bit like the mongule invasion but they are in the west so spain/france/hre/england have to deal with them. this is completely ahistorical and the first time PI did something like that. overall i would say it is a cool idea but only for people who dont mind the ahistorical part.
