Love the DLC, what initially appeared to be very few features quickly grew to completely change the game when playing as a Muslim country (Four wives, four times as many children, many times harder for your ideal heir to survive!

A solid DLC that opens up another whole area and another whole play style with quite different mechanics. A nice "bang for your buck" if on sale especially.

Sword of Islam makes muslims possible to play and they're a much bigger challange than playing a christian country because you have to take care of decadence by basically murdering your own family to prevent it from getting to large. If you want to have a challenge and play as an islamic country then buy this

This DLC opens up a whole new area to CK2. The way that muslim countries paly is very different than christian ones and is not simply just a different country. It akmnost requires you to develop all new strategies and plans, which I really love. Having four wives is a real issue to manage!!

Definetly recommend this DLC for any CK2 gamer.

CK2 is an addicting game where even the redundant moments make hooked. Think of planning a clock in the side of the computer not to lose any social life or find other players to play with them. And this extention is a good second part.Play with muslim is very different as the CK2 vanilla. We have to adapt the method to play and our time spent to sleep.

Not quite perfect but a welcome addition to CK2. It does add the ability to play Muslim nations. Decadence is an interesting addition that definitely changes gameplay. If you have four wives you have not only your sons to deal with but also your grandsons that if they sit idle they make your family name gain decadence. This causes an issue because if you have high decadence your troops have low morale. Your heir is the most powerful vassal you have which if one of your sons is very weak with his stats but happens to start at the beginning of the game (Fatimids in 1066) you better start making babies to have good stats. Either way, it's a good way of playing the other side of the coin in CK2.

This DLC allows you to play as an Islamic nation. On the surface it seems as though it would not add much depth. However Paradox Interactive did a wonderful job of creating little differences between the Christian and Muslim rulers to make the Islamic nations challenging and quite different from the Christian Nations. The biggest difference is that as an Islamic nation you will have "decadence" and if this gets high your vassels will revolt. The other big difference is an Islamic Ruler must have four wives to not lose prestige. This may not sound like a big deal, but four wives will give you four times the children, and four times the sons means four times the pretenders and four times as many people demanding land.

Sword of Islam is a nice expansion that does its job to keep player interested. The nice improvements on combat, the differences in the relationship dynamics, and the balancing act that is the decadence system provides a nice challenge and a good excuse to keep playing.

This is a great expansion it allows you to play as the Muslim dynasties. The Muslims also play quite differently than the Christians with many religion specific events, changes to marriage, decadence and even inheritance laws. The interface also changes when you are playing a Muslim dynasty. There really is no reason not to get this expansion.

A necesary addition, greatly executed

It was obvious that the first DLC was going to be about playable muslims, something that most of us felt lacking in the first CK. CK2 is an absolute classic on its own, this DLC just 'completes' it somehow. You'll surely want to play a muslim dinasty at some point, different challenges, different feeling, and some new different mechanics such as decadence. Highly recomended for a new CK2 experience.

A great DLC, since it adds a lot of Islam specific elements that enrich the game whehter you're playing Christian or Muslim characters, including new ways to crush an enemy by selective assassination.

An excellent expansion that lets you play as Muslims. And it isn't just "have a different face and names on your character screen", too - the gameplay is very different with many new opportunities.

Finally we can play as Muslims. Not only that, the mechanics of the Muslim rulers feels so much different than the Christians. Well worth the price. Now I'm just waiting for a Pagan expansion.

Sword of Islam provides players a chance to play as the other side of the Crusaders: the Muslims. This DLC has plenty of meaty gameplay changes, albeit only for Muslims. Pick this up and enjoy the other half of the globe.

Very nice DLC. There is no reason the Muslim side of the world being left behind as they are also significant power at the time. The gameplay with Muslim factions feels very different from the Christian factions. A must have DLC.

A very good DLC but you only need it, if you want to play muslim.

Playing muslin is very different to playing christian. you have to give land to all your sons und you can marry more then one woman. the best thing about it that you can play with others even if they dont have the DLC.

This with the new Legacy of Rome DLC make Crusader Kings II the best game ever. You will hardly ever get bored now with the decadence system for the Muslims. This will keep the intrigue and civil wars coming. Low decadence means zealous armies wiping out much larger enemies like in history and high decadence means stagnation and tribal armies coming to usurp you, again just like in Muslim Spain in history. A must get!

Sword of Islam is probably the most significant DLC content released for Crusader Kings II, allowing you to actually play from the other half of the map - I recommend it only because I find being limited so annoying - plus who can say no to polygamy?

Crusader Kings II: Sword of Islam review

By Lioneat555 posted 6th October 2012

Pretty good step for DLC. Something missing and always annoying in CK 1 was the inability to play as a muslim, so this is a big improvement, not just for having muslim characters but also for the new events and traits etc. Very good and recommendable to CKII fans

Very good expansion, that brings the possebility to play islamic lords, aswell as enrich the game with new events.

Makes it also harder for christians to conquer the islamic world, as they all sunni or shiite will get a call of arms against all infidel advisors.

Crusader Kings II: Sword of Islam review

For all who saw the Muslim world and thought it was for them. Muslim rulers feel sufficiently different - from multiple wives to different laws - that this is worth it.

The Muslim rulers are not just renamed Christian rulers, but feel different.

The events have a distinctly Muslim feel to them - as do some of the traits (eg once you have been on hajj).

I suppose that this would also add features when playing as a Christian ruler too, but I haven't got round to that.

Definitely recommended if you enjoy the base game - basically, this is more of what you love, more choice and more variation.

WEll spent cash, widens the scope of the game by quite a bit and the new UI and flavor events really add up to even more immersion. Also introducing the decadence system to keep the player on his toes is great!

Sword of Islam is a bit expensive for what it adds, but, if you are a true CK II fan I highly recommend it. You may have played CK2 to death like I had. You may have grown tired of a lot of the mods as well. Sword of Islam let's you experience CK II in a different way, and adds hours of fun.

This expansion is extremely amazing and even accurate it adds alot to the game and makes it much more fun. I truly recommend it for those who want to have play both sides. Playing with muslims nations is significantly different when it comes to court management and other aspects. It is so rich and is full of accurate information. I truly love it.

Crusader Kings II: Sword of Islam review

This expansion permit us to play as muslim, something that was impossible before without modding in the basic version of crusader kings 2. Meaning that this expansion permit us to play the other half of the entire map and add quite a few other features as well. Overall, for quite a affordable prices, I would say that this expansion is truly worth it.

By phillosopherp posted 12th July 2012

The community had been clamoring since the very first days of the announcement to be able to play the Muslim states and now you can, AND THEY PLAY LIKE ARABS not there western counsins. This is just great from those of us that have studied the Arab side more and would love to try and recreate major Sultanates even possibly an all encompassing Caliphate that encompasses the lands from the Maghreb to the Indian sub-continent. This is my goal anyway!

Finally !

By vahadar posted 2nd July 2012

A much anticipated dlc for this game ! Before that the only way to play as muslims was by forcing destiny of your ruler, marrying a muslis wive and hoping that your successor would be converted during their education.

Now less pain and more fun :)

Quite nice expansion. It adds up a very good immersion into the shoes of a Muslim Ruler. Now you can conquer Iberia as a Taifa Petty King and make Muslim empire in Europe !

One could also wish the devs could bring in some more variety into economic system such as adding some trade options and etc

Crusader Kings II: Sword of Islam review

By Kyoumen posted 26th June 2012

An excellent DLC; the 1.06 patch released with it expands the map for everyone, but only by buying Sword of Islam can you play the Mansa of Mali, or the hundreds of Islamic rulers already in the game.

Not just an simply unlock of the ability to play them, Sword of Islam also changes up the interface when you play a Muslim ruler - the colours change to suitable greens and browns, the icons to check religion become crescents rather than crosses, and so forth. In addition to the other advertised features (polygamy, decadence, and so forth) lots of wonderful events such as the Hajj (pilgrimage) to Mecca every adult Muslim is expected to undergo (which presents your character with multiple interesting choices), the rise of the Hashashin (assasin) sect, and more means playing Islamic rulers has an entirely different flavour and doesn't feel like just playing reskinned Christians.

Overall, a great DLC that adds a lot of new life to the game, and is indispensable for anyone who enjoys playing outside of Christian Europe.
