Worldwide Boxing Manager review

I love the idea behind this game but from the perspective of picking it up and immediately making a game of it I have been unsuccessful. While the game attempts to give you guidance it is not always direct enough in helping you make some of the initial decisions you need to make in the game. I appreciate that it helps me get my first boxer going, but to ask me to immediately make decisions regarding his abilities was kind of cruel. It would have been nice if it had some built in suggestions or some way to scout the competition before making such game altering decisions for the first time. I guess I'll just continue to toy around with this one, and maybe become a huge fan but as of right now I am struggling to run positive. I was actually concerned that staying financial solvent would be an issue when I saw the screenshot provided by the vendor and they included extremely negative balances.

I'm going to try again but be warned... this is not a kind simulation.

A boxing manager sim?! I loved the idea, but felt like I was the one taking jabs after a couple of hours of micromanaging. They have great concepts, but just fail to deliver. You start off as a lowly, yet ambitious, manager looking for the next "Rocky", only to find a bunch of bums looking for fights. Tough it out, and after a few good fights and "months" of training, those bums turn into little gold mines. I don't need much graphics or pretty scenes, but the three rooms this game is set in, leaves you wanting more. While the RPG element of constructing a boxer keeps you hooked for a few hours, it's not enough to keep at it. I gave it 2/5 stars, mostly for the ideas they had. My recommendation: Stick to FIFA for your sports management sim cravings, and hope for a sequel or a new boxing sim altogether.

I am a huge fan of boxing and management games so combining those two should really do it for me. However i still feel disapointed due to simplicity of this game. It follows the exact same pattern all the time: schedule fight, train, watch poor presantation match, rest, repeat. Best part of the game is the rpg elements of boxer improvement but you learn really fast how to make ideal fighters and end up being stable full of fast jabbing defensive boxers. Potential is there so i have high hopes for sequel. 1/5.
