    FEATURES

Download the new Torchlight Editor here.

The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember - a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts.  This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember’s influence on the civilizations that have come before.

Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures a long-lived gameplay experience.

    FEATURES

    • Randomization – Our level layouts are randomly created, so each adventure is unique. Monsters, treasures, puzzles, and items are also different each time you embark on an adventure.
    • Easy, approachable interface – Torchlight is designed to be easy to play right from the beginning. The intuitive interface gives players easy access to a rich and varied world.
    • Retirement System – Once characters are sufficiently leveled up, they can “retire” and bestow specific benefits and perks to new characters.
    • Pets – Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, carry items, and perform a variety of helpful services.
    • Character Classes – Players will create and customize a character from one of three classes available, and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored and different.
    • Fishing – Players can take a break from the high-energy pace of adventuring to visit one of the fishing holes and relax and see what they can catch. Fish have interesting benefits for the player and pet, and other rewards can also be discovered
    • Included Editor – Runic Games is embracing our modding community by including an editor so our players can create and design their own content.

So far i had a lot of fun with this game, the bonbon-cartoon graphics at first scared me a bit and the small download too, but it prooved to be a very solid game. Addictive and fun to play. If you like hack&slash games in diablo style this is definately one for you. The only downside i came across so far is that the dungeons look quite the same sadly but you will still have a lot of fun with this game.

Certainly priceworthy, and even for me that isn't really a fan of hack n slash, I had good fun with it for the time I played it. Nice graphics, easy controls, easy-to-read interface, and solid gameplay. It's a bit repetetive, but that's usually what these games are all about. There's tons and tons of loot, so if that's your type of game, Torchlight is sure to satisfy.

An enjoyable dungeon romp, marred only by being perhaps too easy even on harder settings. It does have the Diablo and Titan Quest elements others have mentioned, but a more accurate comparison would be Fate, right down to the pet companion and fishing spots. The creators (from fate and Diablo) have taken all the most user friendly features from their other games in making this one.

If you want a game that will give you Diablo flashbacks in terms of pure hack and slash game play, then Torchlight is the game for you! Great fun, funny art design, and a very interesting setting allow for a level of free-spirited fun I haven't experienced in a while, and hopefully you'll join me in my opinion. Try Torchlight if you want a hack and slash fix before Diablo III!

Torchlight is simply a big piece of fun. With the destroyer class and the hardcore mode, you'll get back the thrills you had long time ago with the Diablo's barbarian. The skill tree is quite well balanced and will give pleasure to anyone who likes to hack... and slash !

Despite being a direct copy of the aging Diablo 2 this title (from former blizzard staff) succeeds in feeling fresh, fun, and addictive. The gameplay is simple and the story is almost nix, but the grind is soothing and the looting is exilerating. Some clever minor tweaks to the classic game mechanic and a cartoony look helps the game stand on it's own feet so you wont be bored if you have been revisiting the dungeons of Diablo recently. Pro: Fun, stylish, excellent value. Con: Too much like Diablo and not enough like Titan Quest. Conclusion: There now is a new device to pass the time untill Diablo 3 arrives, and it's name is Torchlight.

Be careful, because this game is really addicting. You'll immediately feel the urge to go forward, getting new items and gain new levels. Like others said, it's an Action RPG, by the same makers of Diablo 1 and 2. And it shows. The polish level is great and they communicate a lot with the community. They'll release the game editing tools shortly, so hopefully the community will pick the editor up and give this game some long legs. Not only a bargain, but also the sleeper hit of this holiday season.

The most addictive game I played in a long time. A beautiful RPG, which keeps you coming back for more, delving deeper into the dungeon and collecting bigger and better equipment. With a choice of three different characters, and many different ways of configuring those characters, there is plenty of replay value. The gameplay is relatively easy and would suit a more inexperienced gamer. If you have played this style of game before, I would recommend starting of one of the higher difficulty levels, where you will find more of a challenge. Although already a very solid game and free of major bugs, the developer appears very keen to provide ongoing support. The lack of multiplayer may be a miss for some , but the single player experience is compelling. In summary, this is a must buy, but make sure you got nothing pressing coming up in real life, as you be spending a lot of time with Torchlight

Anyone who enjoys Diablo/Diablo II will definitely want to try this title. The price is hard to beat, and the gameplay is solid and addictive in the initial release. I had an initial issue with long load times between levels, but found a quick fix on their forums that has helped considerably (reduced my load times by 50% or more), and the recent update should actually improve it even more. At first, I was a bit taken aback by what seemed to be cartoonish graphics, but very quickly decided that this really wasn't a problem, just a bit different. I have to express my thanks to the developers of this title, who contine to have a very open and active dialog with their customers, and are actively working to track down any issues which are raised. The quick release of the new build, bears this out.

For anyone who likes Hack & Slash games in the style of Diablo / DungeonSiege / Sacred / TitanQuest this is simply a MUST buy! Torchlight is created by the people who originally created Diablo and Diablo II (ex Blizzard-North) and Fate (Travis Baldree), and they know exactly how to make a truly addictive action RPG game! The production design is top-notch with a very attractive and polished look. The music is beautifully atmospheric and composed by the same composer who created the music for Diablo and Diablo II. The gameplay is very similar to the original Diablo game, with a lot of great elements of Fate mixed in. Anyone who loves a beautiful dungeon crawler game that satisfies your greed for loot and makes you forget about the time because you can't stop playing should look no further and just buy this superb game!

This is a VERY solid game in the same action RPG genre as Diablo or Titan Quest. You pick from 3 classes all with interesting skill trees and subclasses, and the loot starts flowing. I love the art direction of this game, everything is colorful and vibrant even though you are constantly sinking deeper into the mines of Torchlight. Animation is very smooth and the combat feels really well done. All in all the only negative thing I can think to say about this game is the lack of multi-player support, but for the asking price of $19.95 it's hard to nitpick such a good deal.
