Stellar Impact: The Tactical Space Game review

A brilliant attempt at fusing Naval warfare and Moba-style gameplay. The result is a nice little budget-price game with a good amount of depth, some tasty customization and some fantastic gameplay elements. That's not to say it isn't flawed, sometimes collision detection gets a bit weird and quite often matches can go beyond the 40-60 minute mark. Aside from those and a few other minor points, I think this is well worth the money and pretty damn good fun.

When playing this game, I have to say the controls are confusing, and the tutorial isnt very interactive. The real problem is there is no single player mode, and they say they wont make one, simply because it's "Too hard". Comon guys.. a little PvE love? Unsatisfied..

This a fun game, but the learning curve is extremely steep, and if you happen to end up in a game with some of the best players on the other team, prepare to be exterminated. PS: play the tutorial, or you will not have any idea how to play the game.

Interesting mechanics for a space MOBA but almost zero player base means you'll hardly ever get a game these days. Little tutorial, high learning curve and existing players consisting solely of the hardcore players from launch gives new meaning to newbie-unfriendly.

Oh, and the game's been roll backed to beta.

Stellar Impact is a slow paced Dota clone. The concept is rather simple, you control a ship of a specific type. The ship has health, shield, weapons and skills. You mission is to use your ship to destroy the enemy base(or in one mode, kill the opponent ships). You do this by using your Ship's skills to your advantage sending torpedoes at the right time or going invisible. There are numerous skills in the game which can be changed depending on your playstyle. The ships themselves differ mostly in speed, vision and armour. During a fight(2vs2 to 6vs6) your ship gains experience points. When starting out you have 6 points that you during the game can spend on your skills as new levels are unlocked and you have to choose wisely. Also, with the money you get from killing "creep"(computer controlled small ships, or killing an enemy ship you can upgrade your ship. Either defensive or offensive upgrades. You can also spend the money on team-upgrade, upgrading the creeps overall power.

Playing games earns you experience point in that ship-type which and also items. These can be spent on upgrading your ship making it more dangerous.

Most matches takes 20 to 60 minutes to play out. The game is a bit too slow-paced for me and that "spark" is missing. But if you are a fan of the Dota-genre and sci-fi is your thing, then you should definetely check this one out! It is rather cheap (you can play a free version but then you can not go beyond level 0) so it is a lot of gametime for not that much cash.

Stellar Impact could correctly be called a team based co-operative online strategy game. You can play for free, which is done via the developers website, and it's well worth having a go to see how you find the game before dismissing it out of hand.

The limitations on the free trial is the level you can reach, and if like me, you find yourself enjoying it you will probably end up purchasing it.

You play the captain of a spaceship, choosing one of 5 sizes for each match, and work as a team with others online against a similar team on the opposing side. You can upgrade your ship (each class upgrades seperately based on xp earnt with that class) and fit weapons modules etc...

Well worth looking at for some quick online play

It's a kind of MOBA in space, very team-work oriented. The game contains strong tactical and strategy elements combined into an innovativ gameplay based on maneuvers. You can play several classes like frigate, cruiser, destroyer, dreadnought... (tank, DPS, support, recon). There are also something like 10 maps, 2 game modes and a lot of different skills that you can combine to find cool combos. I played it with 3 friends of mine but you can apparently play in 6v6 battles. It should be quite epic. You really should give it a try ! Before buying the game you can make 10 free trial battles.

This game is a mix of a MOBA (dota-like) and a tactical space sim. Most of the ship controls are directly in your hands, like weapon orientation, ship turning and speed, meaning that every single manouvre, even the most simple one, can be challenging.

The sense of accomplisment of manouvering your ship in the middle of the enemy formation, firing salvo after salvo from all your different firing arcs, while dodging torpedoes is incredible.

It has some few quirks. Balance is not perfect, while being much better than other MOBA (ahem, LoL), and the lag and latency can sometimes be a hinderance.

Overall, this game is a little strategic masterpiece, a hidden gem that definitively deserve more players.

In addition, I should point out that you can play 10 games for free, after which you can choose if you want to buy: I higly recommend to give this game a try

This is a game that had a good bit of potential, but the implementation is awful. There is no decent single-player mode, which would actually be okay if anybody else actually played the game. As it is, you sit there for 30 minutes waiting to somehow get a critical mass of people to play a battle. As someone who generally loves these kinds of games, I simply cannot recommend this one to anybody. I honestly feel like they picked my pocket for $14.
