Railroad Pioneer review

You are a pioneer in the process of building the first tracks in 19th century America. No stock exchange, no salary for you, just a company to look after.

Planning your tracks and schedule to transport goods is only a part of the fun. This is mostly an unexplored country, and the first thing will be sending a party of up to eight specialists to discover the surroundings as Railroad Pioneer. Introduced the fog of war in a game of management adding some suspense to the beginning of each game. You'll battle wild animals, Indian tribes and desperadoes, but also rivals who will show up and try to steal you the right to trade with the towns - luckily you'll be able to bribe the city council, and play some other tricks depending on the money you are willing to spend in secret operations.

Because this is a historic game, no modern locomotives are included, but your locomotives gain experience points which can be spent to better their performances. Sending a locomotive to carry out a single mission gives it an instant experience point. Moreover you can carry on your best locomotives form mission to mission during the campaign.

This is a good game. It's not as polished as railroad tycoon 3, but it is a good value if you like trains and railroads. If you are just looking for a good sim game and aren't specifically into railroads this is probably a pass.

This game is more accessible than most sims and the tutorial is well done, but this just doesn't offer much depth to continue playing after you work through the campaign.

This game demands patience. It is a character driven game in which you control characters to perform tasks like looking exploring and finding where a good place to lay the track. When it originally came out, it seemed like it was behind its time given its lackluster graphics and controls. Today, this game is completely outdated, and should be considered a game from the classic era. It was made too late, but could have been much better received had it been made at a much earlier time.

My point is, this is good game for the previous era in gaming. Today, this game has no place except as a classic.

Railroad Pioneer is a nice game, especially for the price. It may not have all the features and content of the best games in the genre, but it's still different enough, and interesting enough to play and enjoy. It's not too hard to learn, but it plays nicely and has interesting graphics.

Its not a great game but its worth spending $5. A very easy game to master.

This game is faster to get into than some in the genre but I think that to do this they just made it too simple. It is still fun but the real challenge just seems to be missing. Overall I think that it is worth getting if you want to get into the genre, but there are better more challenging games out there for the more experinced player.

It feels a bit like a stripped down Railroad Tycoon. You send out scouting parties to explore new land, build stations and track, send trains, and even a bit of shady dealings with competitors.

My main complaint, is the atmosphere. It seems too "kiddy", it doesn't really have the buisness and number chrunching that Sid Meier's had.

Overall though, it is a fun light game, well worth the cost, but don't be expecting to still be playing this game years from now.

A fine little railroad game, particularly for $5. Somewhat like Sim City meets Monopoly, it's about building rail networks for profit. You research new vehicles, engage in trade (money rules!), and generally try to take over an area. As you deliver goods to various location, new businesses grow, using the good you bring. All in all, a pretty fun game with good graphics and sound. My only complaint is the maintenance system. Trains and cars wear down over time, which is fine, but trains become harder to maintain over time, which is annoying, since they have to be repaired more often. Also, you can only order repairs when trains are between stations, but the repairs are only done at stations, which is also annoying. The maintenance issue aside, it's well worth the $5 you pay for this game.
