Survivors of Ragnarök (Alpha) review

By Barely posted 24th February

Survivors of Ragnarök is an attempt at a side scrolling Dwarf Fortress, and although it is very far from complete, there is a lot of potential. Buying into an alpha is always a gamble, and you have to ask yourself if the cash outlay is worth the risk of the game not living up to it's potential or not being finished at all. With Survivors of Ragnarök, the reward is absolutely worth the risk.

This game reminded me a lot of mine craft. However it was not nearly as fun, but as an alpha game it is good for the beginning.

Survivors is one of those games that makes you feel that someday may be something really big. As for today it's still unpolished, a work in progress with a lot of great ideas. But the way from humble alpha to the finished product is bound to be an interesting one, so give it a try!

Survivors of Ragnarök looks like a Minecraft or Terraria clone, but there are enough ideas to make a great game and not just a clone. There are many things you can do, but also some bugs at the moment. With fixing these bugs and adding more content the game can be brilliant, but i'll give 4 out of 5 for the idea.

This game really is in alpha, but it has nothing but potential. And with the dedicated and passionate developers there's no telling what it'll turn into.

Survivors of Ragnarök will remind you of Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft, and the more recent game Towns comes to mind as well, but it is in no way a clone. It's unique in itself and hopefully will expand to be an amazing game.

In its current state however, it is buggy and has it's flaws but as stated it IS in alpha so it's expected. I give this game a 4 because of the untapped potential and future updates the developers plan to implement.

im not too big on reviewing games so early in development, but this game does hold its own as is for its price. hopefully it will evolve into something really great, i am not going to compare it to other games because i dont really see it as all that similar (and i have played ALOT of games) so i will just say if you like exploring, gathering crafting and defending this game is for you.

the game itself is fun but its so buggy. i cant play more than 5 minutes. after that the dwarfs start going crazy and jump in the air and i cant give them commands. the game is still in alpha so i hope they will fix this in full version.

This game looked like it would be fun! However, I go to play it and it crashed on startup after posting in their forum on how to fix it and getting no reply for weeks I decided to not even worry about this game! So becuase of bad service from the developers and the fact that I cant play it I gave it 1 star. It actually might still be a decent game, but Ill never know lol.

Fun game for what it is, kind of like a cross between Terraria and Dwarf Fortress. Not much in the way of content right now (it is alpha) and it has some issues with bugs (took me a while to get it to start and it does crash from time to time) but it is dripping with potential.

For it's price, it's a good buy, particularly during the indie fort bundle (Where it costs a buck).

Took off a star for the bugs, which make the game hard to play, but for an alpha game it's totally worth the money.

Great game, immensely entertaining, but very much an alpha. the tutorial is very basic so expect to learn a lot by trial and error. It also has a nasty habit of crashing when my lil' dudes get confused by build orders, however a VERY fun game and I found my self soldiering on through many crashes until 5am. worth the money and more

This an alright mix of DF and Terraria, but it doesn't quite hit the right note for me. The game is unclear in what you're doing, and the tutorial is truly brief. I had fun playing it for a short time, but the game randomly ended after a few minutes. I will be excited to see some updates, as the game is still in alpha, but as of now it is not too great.

In Survivors of Ragnarok you can dig, hunt, create your fortress, manage your dwarves. It's still in alpha and is therefore not a finished game, it might take another year or 2 perhaps until it's finally finished. So far you can dig and build a fortress but more is to come. Recommended if you like Terraria, Minecraft, Dwarf fortress(it's based on DF).
