King's Bounty Warriors of the North Valhalla Edition review

By Vadetz posted 1st May

Kings Bounty WOTN would be well renamed Kings Of Bounty WTF?-edition. The are practically zero innovations compared to earlier games. Like before, it takes a long time, when game start to feel interesting. I had bloody tough 30-hour mental rage fighting with myself to not die to boredom.

Finally I got much enough different troops, runes, and rage abilities. Then you notice that you can't find magic crystals nearly nowhere, but that's obviously as clear as the earth loops the moon.

Moreover, I started play with normal, which is way too easy. In a trice you got so much money that you can buy a moonflight. For new players it makes absolutely no sense to buy WTF?-edition because Legend is much cheaper and offers the same experience meanwhile other players get a lame deja-vu experience.

All right, I absolute adore this series. I played extensively all the three previous games (the original, Armored princess, and Crossworlds). I am also eager to support the series in any way possible. That said, this game is still full of bugs and way to similar to the previous games. The new units (Vikings) are not that great, and the new adventures not that interesting. Did I mention that this game has many game-stopping bugs? I found several in my plays and one of which (corrupted file) was so bad I had to revert to a previous (many hours lost) savegame. Despite all of the above, I am having as much funs as ever, but this has to stop. Give us King’s Bounty 2 – and how comes the previous games were almost bug-free whereas this one is so horribly infested? Stop the madness!

The problem here isn't what's new. It's what isn't new. And it's overwhelming. They even use the same music in unusual contexts to give the gamer a feel that this is something 'new' or at least something different. But it doesn't fool those who have played all the others games in the series... From me, the game gets only 2-3 stars for recycling of material but 5 stars for the new content, storyline, seeing it all from a fresh perspective. Even the underground ship lake in one context (not sub this time) brings forth old memories from Heroes 3. :-) Being King's Bounty, and because I like the Viking context, it gets a total of 4 stars from me. :-)
