"the way the guns feel, the music, the pacing, it’s all fabulous." Rock, Paper, Shotgun

Jamestown: Legend Of The Lost Colony is a neo-classical top-down shooter for up to 4 players, set on 17th-century British Colonial Mars. It features all the intensity, depth, and lovingly handcrafted pixels of a classic arcade shooter, with a modern twist: deeply-integrated cooperative gameplay.

Unlike most top-down shooters, which give multiple players a shared pool of lives or continues, Jamestown does something different.  So long as any player survives, the team can be brought back from death. By giving every player the power to rescue their team from the jaws of destruction, Jamestown creates an exhilarating cooperative experience where everyone’s contribution truly matters. Win or lose, your team will do it together.

Key Features:

  • Blast your way through historic Mars as a crack team of up to 4 friends in local co-op mode
  • Marvel and rejoice at vast expanses of lovingly handcrafted pixels
  • Escape into a fast-paced story of swashbuckling redemption
  • Epic orchestral scores composed by Francisco Cerda, unique to each level
  • Brave the hostile Martian frontier with your pick of 1619’s finest steampunk weaponry
  • Master innovative co-op mechanics paired with classical top-down shooter gameplay
  • Test your skills against 20+ rule-bending bonus levels
  • Run the “Gauntlet” arcade mode, and play Jamestown like it’s 1996
  • Leverage the unique scoring system to claw your way up the online leaderboards

Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony review

Now this is what i can a shoot em up,this is how arcade shooters used to be in the 80's & 90's,this is tribute to the games of the past and complete with pixels for graphics, modern or new gamers may not appreciate it as they like picture perfect graphics but for me and other retro gamers we love the style. Pixel graphics are big, bold and very colourful but it the soundtrack that really excels and is huge in scope,it's nice to finially have bosses at the end of a level, this game is fast, colourful, chaotic and adrenelin fuelled heart pounding action, this is pure class so if you love old shooters then you really can't go far wrong with Jamestown,92% from me so you can relive those old memories.

Firstly: Play this game with a controller!

The storyline and interludes between missions are just plain awesome.

The gameplay itself is what you would expect from a tribute to an old school shooter. It does get difficult at times however, and you need to play on the higher difficulty levels to unlock later levels.

The best part of the game though is that it allows up to 4 people to play on one machine.

Great shoot'em up. It can be really difficult but all of this is solved by playing coop (couch coop with up to four players)

The art style is reminiscent of old 16bit shooters and fits perfectly for the game.

The setting is awesome, colonial Mars will never be beaten.

If u like Shoot'em'Up and u spended a whole bunch of coins for the old Arcade titles back in the '80s, then this is the right choice of game for u.

Fast paced Top-Down Shooter with incredible gameplay and mechanics.

Old school manic shooter, hardcore to the bone.

The best thing about this game is that whatever your skills are, you'll enjoy it.

I'm a rather big noob at shmups, but I enjoy Jamestown a lot.

Jamestown has to be one of the best most intense bullet hells out on the PC. At only $10 you get more than your money's worth. It's awesome playing alone but if you want even more fun you can connect your PC to the TV, grab 4 controllers, and have a blast!!

This game is incredibly fun. Classic shmup play with a somewhat interesting story. The game itself is a bit short, but there is some replay value in playing through on different difficulties and unlocking different achievements. The bonus levels also offer a fun challenge. Though multiplayer is only local, this game is well worth playing solo if you are pathetic loser with no friends.

A great arcade shooter!

Jamestown is one of the best SHMUPS I've played in a few years - the game-play is really great. The only noticeable problem is that it only supports multiplayer on a single computer (hence the 4 stars) - but it's a great experience (still the single player does stand on its own).

The graphics are 2D hand-drawn - but that should't be a problem as they look much better than most 3D renders in shooters.

It only has 5 (regular - there are many "challenge" ones) levels but each one is very well laid out and the are all quite different from one another. Thanks to a good implementation of difficulty levels the replay value is high.

The top down shoot-em-up is a stable genre of yesteryear, Jamestown shares a lineage with Space invaders, and galaga, but adds in beautiful 2d art, 4 player local co-op and a host of unlockables including 4 different ships, extra gamplay modes and even an alternate storyline. It might get a little crowded as you and 3 friends clamber around the computer but since you can elect to use gamepads, mice or keyboard (it allows you to rebind keys) so even if your not graced with multiple gamepads you can still give it a go with friends. The only downside to this wonderful game is that its relatively short, Some more levels would have been more than welcome, however there are plenty of difficulty levels there to replay on and if you pick it up on special then its $5 very well spent.

Jamestown: A well-made flashback game

Considering it was made by a newly-arrived indie developer, I must admit they made a great start with such a nice title. The challenging maps makes you wish a friend or three to help you beat them. I just dont give it a five due to lack of any kind of online support, just a direct IP support would do. Great shoot-em-up and congrats Final Form!

Classic game "ships" of life, essential for the oldest gamers. Up to 4 players

Short but intense campaign, many challenges and enemies. Code redeemable in steam.

Top notch ! Activates on Steam

By redbull posted 15th Aug 2011

Great game, worth supporting the devs for and for a fiver it's more than a good deal ! Superb music aswell. Just wish it had a better resolution, but after a few minutes you're way too concentracted on other things to notice. Game activates on steam, which is a plus for some!

Indie games for bullet-hell shooter fans!

If you like the shoot-em up kind of old arcade shooter then this game is for you. The campaign its kind short but the challenge and shop mode give more replayiblity.
