Deep in the underworld of Ardania, a threat of the most evil nature grows and multiplies with an appetite for destruction that is unsurpassed. Not... Great, but not Horrible Either

By Siminos posted 22nd February

Impire is... interesting, it has quite a bit going for it, and quite a bit going against it, for those who have played games like Evil Genius and Dungeons, the concept is similar but watered down a fair bit. As of right now, the game is a tad unstable and Multilayer is still flagged as Beta, but I still found myself having some fun with the game.

Your choices in squad makeup and the abilities they grant are rather neat for filling each of the squads with a niche roll can be fun finding new combos, sadly though a fair bit of Micromanaging is required to keep them useful, from making sure they stay fed to upgrading the armor of the squad one member at a time.

Likewise gathering resources ends up just being tedious with nothing really in the way early on to stop you from quickly buying the other squads, which after that Ive yet to find a single use for treasure, just but 2 extra treasure rooms, get the required total of 210 Treasure to unlock all the squads, then make sure they never fall after that.

Base building likewise is almost a fun activity, until hero ladders prove that traps are outright useless when heroes can appear anywhere in the dungeon, and the irritating fact that you can't undo any digging/building you place means if a error is made, you'll have to either restart or make due without a specific building.

The Story is fairly interesting but the voice acting is... acceptable at best horrid at others. The biggest pain is the tutorial is a tad lacking, and no mention of how certain mechanics work or tool tips for many of the others can leave a frustrated feeling as you go.

But all in all for the price it is a fine game with a huge amount of potential if you don't mind its quirks, and it can rather easily become a great game if the developer shows it proper love, for those hoping for another Evil Genius/Dungeons, its a far cry from those games, lacking the depth of either.

Mediocre dungeon sim. Good flavor and voice acting, but few other plusses. Fun for a few levels but becomes monotonous quickly due to lack of depth. Rooms/tunnels are tightly constrained, giving you little choice in how to build your dungeon. Combat too simple with no interaction on the user's part. Heros constantly attack you but are trivially dispatched due to your ability to teleport any unit to any location, so only serve as an annoying distraction from actually completing the mission. This game is a long ways from being as good as the original Dungeon keeper. 5/10

Repetitive but entertaining

The graphic are well done, better than usual paradox games where graphics are often botched.

It's a dungeon keeper like game that plays with squads of creature obeying your demon (that you control which add a little bit of RPG element, as he levels up).

It plays typically into 3 places. Your dungeon, where you build and create units, and defeat invading heroes and creatures dwelling.

Next there's the outside, taht you can raid for ressources or to complete certain Quest, And finally the outter parts of the dungeon itself, usually a forest or an other dungeon that you teleport to, where you do sidequest and the main quest.

All in all the Game is fun, but missions are repetitive (I just finished act 2).

It's still well worth it.

Great little game, funny storyline and interesting gameplay. Brings back memories of dungeon keeper and Overlord games.

Bit buggy but an overall fun experience.

As the title says, the game is a little bit buggy, as expected from a Paradox game but at it's core it's quite enjoyable and has tons of witty humour in it which makes the campaign quite pleasant (albeit having to do a mission twice cause of a crash is annoying as all hell).

As with all Paradox games, rule of the thumb is to wait a bit till they fix everything before buying or investing too much time into this game.
