The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas review

A pretty good expansion that adds a lot of sailing options. Like any good expansion it really improves the vanilla. But like others have said Guild II Renaissance includes everything in all previous expansions, so you should probably get that instead.

I picked this up in the Guild 2 Complete Pack, and all you really need to buy is Renaissance - it grabs all the new features and puts them together. There are updates on the Runeforge forums, head there and install the extra patches for added stability. Multiplayer is doable but difficult due to errors, though there are some workarounds given on the Runeforge forums as well. If multiplayer was perfectly smooth I'm not sure I'd ever need to play another game! Definitely worth it though, no matter what. Single player (and multiplayer, when it works) is fantastic.

This expansion is such an amazing addon to the original game improving every aspect of it. It's very enjoyable and you can do whatever you wish within the game; Both politics and just running your own little house and perhaps a Pest House to earn some money to your family in order to continue the Dynasty.

if you wanted to protect your businesses or general property it could only be done by either hiring minions or drawing out the town guard to help put down the ‘unrest’. Now you can build watchtowers that will help defend any of your dynasties buildings and family or underlings. They go from a lowly look-out tower to a cannon tower of immense ‘deterrent’, they can keep their vigil over land and sea troubles. Of course these are also used by a town, which will be more than happy to let a volley off at any declared outlaw.

This game adds piracy to the scheme of the Guild 2. It is a nice addition and I have played it a few times. There are different maps that are quite nice. But, The Guild 2: Renaissance also has the same careers as this game and other elements as well. I recommend this game to anyone who really wants to own the whole collection for the occasional gameplay.

An epic and interesting expansion to the original guild. It adds an entire new facet to the series in the form of pirating and sailing. For that, it once again captures the magic of the original game. It adds new professions, buildings, and a few new other features that assure you that you are getting your moneys worth. There is still that inexplicable charm as well.

There a re a few bugs but they hardly detract from the amazing experience.

The unique campaign and focus on sea trade and piracy makes this a standout entry in the 'Guild 2' franchise. A great change of pace and the campaign while not being anything special is nice for variety and giving a more focused set of goals rather than just pure sandbox play that can get a bit repetitive. As for the rest of the game it's the same as the other Guild games: create a character, then rise as far as you can in your chosen career path in a late medieval world. It's a bit more polished than the original Guild 2, but introduces its own bugs. My favorite of the series.

Pirate is always a popular theme for gaming, so The Guild II also get a pirate expansion. The expansion pack try to add something intereting, but the ship and pirate system is not implemented well. At the end you don't feel like this pack added much (comparing to the price) to the main game.

arrrgh! a pirate expansion! (thought about going with "shiver me timbers but it sounded.. "funny") i guess it adds cool content, honestly i just wish it added a bit more of it. 10 hours of gameplay is cool, but i would have LOVED to see 20 new ships and 10 new classes.

still, a nice addition to a very good game.

Definitely the worst of the 3 DLCs for the game, but it's still a great value. I love this DLC as much as the others, but I can't help but mention that it's worse than the other 2 by far. It probably won't be worth the money if you don't absolutely love the game, but how can you go wrong getting it along with the other 2 in the collection? =P

I’ll start saying that I love the Guild series, so of course I am biased in favor of anything coming out with the brand-name on it. I think that added theme for this expansion (Pirates) is very clever, also because recently there is a renewed interest for pirates in general. I must concede that this expansion is quite short, and the dynamics of the game do not change significantly, except of course for the adventures on the seas as a pirate and your empire of ships. Of course since the Guild Gold is available now, if you like the series you may want to consider getting that one, and not only this limited adventure. Anyway, this is game remains one of the best attempts to mesh real-time strategy and economic/empire building simulation. I can recommend it.

This is a great expansion to Guild 2. It adds more optoins to what you can do in the game. The expansion is stand alone, btw, you dont need the original game to play it. Guild 2 is a fun game to play once you get into it, past the learning curve. Players can choose from a variety of occupations including fishing, baking, thieving, and of course piracy...SHIP BATTLES!!!

i bought the gold version of this game and so i did not buy this expansion separately.

the new pirate profession is fun and the new towns add some variety to the game but ultimately it is not enough to justify it's stand alone price.

If you have the guild 2 i suggest staying away if you don't and are considering buying this game i suggest buying the gold versions instead.

While the Guild 2 is a very appealing game, this expansion adds nothing more than ships and isnt friendly at all to use. I am maybe picky, but the pirating system is not interesting at all, only the trading one is.

The features of the stock game are hopefully still here to make it as good as it is. Renaissance add-on gives more than this one imho.

The Guild II is one of those niche genre games that brings an immense amount of game to the table, but will likely not be played by the majority of gamers. The Guild II is a game of dynastic simulation in realms of politics, finance, industry, crime, and religion, and in most respects you take as much or as little of each of those areas into your own playstyle. Definitely a must try game with almost infinite replayability, especially with the addition of Pirates of the European Seas!

Pirates of the European Sea expands on what is already a great game. With the 2.2 patch that was just released recently, it's even better. If you enjoy sim games with a twist, it's definately one to check out.

Pirates of the European Sea is a rather lack luster expansion. The pirate profession is very situational, and requires a lot of micro managing. The extra maps are nice, as well as the offices, but I never really bothered with the campaign. This expansion is lost on me, though I got the gold edition so it wasn't as much as buying them separately.

RPG/RTS Heaven! For those gamers who like ultimate micromanaging in a totally real time medieval society. Like The Sims2 meets Patrician III in an Oblivion style graphical environment.
