Not the game for me.. honestly it seems like a game made for mac people since pc gamers have so many other better choices for this kind of game. Fortunately it didnt cost much and i enjoy the other games that it was bundled with.

Gorgeous visuals alone are worth your time

I study sixteenth century history full-time and needless to say I was excited to see this game lift the visual style of maps and atlases from the period so well. It's wonderful!

A very visually appealing game with limited rock-paper-scissors gameplay. Play it for the beauty of a game based on old cartography. Otherwise, not much here.

The aesthetics for this game are really, really polished. The entire UI shows you all you need to know: how much cargo you're carrying, how much movement points (Wind!) you have left per turn, how much money you've accumulated in total.

The overarching gameplay is very simple, very easy to pick up. There is also an on-the-go tutorial within the game. I also love the way "Puerto" is used, it does bring one back to the era where the Portuguese ruled the seas. An interesting era, to be sure.

One gripe I have about the game is the lack of complexity to it; you only trade in 3 commodities and the prices offered are capped between 1-9 in each port. There are no deviations from this price range, and thus very little strategy involved.

I'd recommend this game as something you'd play on the train or bus. Or in class. Not something I'd sit down to for 2 hours though.

Very fun game and worth a look at.

The hand drawn detailed artwork in this game is excellent. The idea is to trade and kill sea monsters so you can collect enough gold to deck out your ship and complete the goal first. The game plays like a quick board game with easy to follow rules. There is strategy in this game, unlike some board games where you destiny is set by a roll of the die or the hand you are dealt. The only downside is the multi-player, game offers local multi-player but no online play. With that said, the AI plays a fun and fair game and I would totally recommend this game to anyone. There is a very good first look on Youtube under "WTF is Fortune Winds: Ancient Trader." if you want to see it before you buy it.

Good Concept but No Replay-ability

By dojadoug posted 7th July 2012

This game is like a multi-player sea trader. The goal is to either find all three artifacts and be the first to defeat the Kraken or (in a different game setting) be the first to accumulate a certain wealth. Your ship cannot be destroyed, but you can fight both monsters and other opponents with the winner collecting some gold from the other. Combat has a ro-sham-bo aspect to it but your chances of winning are also dependent on who has a better ship.

When you play this game for a short period it is easy to want to give it a five-star rating, but by the time I wrote this review I was close to giving it a three-star rating. The replay-ability is simply awful if you are any good at the game whatsoever. There is no random map generator and even on "hard" difficulty the computer is amazingly poor. You can play multi-player but it appears you can only do so locally. There are nine maps and you appear to always start in the same location and the same ports always have the three artifacts you need to capture.

This game has a ton of potential, I had a fun day or two with it, but at this point I'm done with it because I've beaten every level on hard (easily) and there is no challenge whatsoever. I would love to see a future version of this game with more random elements and deeper strategy.

Playing a game of Fortune Winds takes about 15-20 minutes. It has very stunning visuals and the gameplay is very nice. It reminds me a lot of a tabletop board game. The goal is to gather 3 artifacts and slay the Kraken. To do this you sail around and kill monsters or trade at ports for money to purchase the artifacts. Combat is kind of like rock paper scissors. You play one of three colored cards and each color is strong against a different color and weak against the remaining color. Overall this is a very good game and I would recommend it to friends.
