This is the best *historical* grand strategy I have every played.

FTG is also a huge improvement over EU2, this game flows perfectly and has a level of moddability which is simply amazing.

My favorite game(europa universalis II) just got so much better. I tried EU3 out but didn't like it. For the Glory fixes everything that is bad with EU2 but keeps true to the original.

EU2 has a lot of tedious micromanagement of your provinces, For the Glory tries to fix that which is the biggest improvement. And the latest beta 1.3 makes the game even better.

I simply love it.

On the other hand, if you are NOT a fan of EU2 I can't really recommend or not recommend the game.

The Europa Universalis series has supposed a great step forward in strategy games for PC, allowing you to play almost any world country in the modern era. It has reached a terrific combination of historical background, complexity and replayability that makes it one in it own. For the Glory is a game developed in this series, but... I don't really see what is adding to Europa Universalis II. You have everything you get in an Europa Universalis game: creating and maintaining your armies, taxes, rebellions, colonization of America and Africa, diplomacy, research... a lot of historical events in which you could decide go for the historical path or trying a what-if... For the Glory add a lot of improvements and content to original EU2, but it's lacking for something special, groundbreaking material that could give it a "raison d'etre".

It's not a bad game at all, but you'd only really enjoy it if you haven´t played ever Europa Universalis 2 with some of its wonderful mods.

I was extremely disappointed with this title. I understand that the historical aspect of the game is great. But, it is so far inferior in graphics and map scope that it is like going fifteen years into the past with gameplay. I imagine that if EU3 had never come out, than one could be satisfied with playing this game. But, it is just too difficult to jump that far back into the gameplay experience. I loathe the fact that EU3 is way too vanilla with its historical gameplay. I expected much, much more from the developer of this game.

You may enjoy it. But, you may want to download the demo first rather than assume it must be a good title like I did.

It's a game based on EUII engine. It surely improves from the original EUII, but in vein, it is still a EUII game. So do expect steep learning curve but hundreds of hours gameplay. If you enjoy EUII, you will enjoy this game. However, if you don't, this one won't change your opinion. I think this one is not as successful as other games, such as Darkest Hour, based on HoI2 engine. The reason is not the lack of quality, but rather EUIII being more polish than HoI3. As a result, EUIII is generally a better choice if you want to have some EU fun. However, if your computer cannot run EUIII, then this game is your best option.

A solid effort at dusting off and revitalizing Paradox Interactive's break out hit Europa Universalis II. It features a number of improvements to the interface, gameplay mechanics and a bevy of modder friendly additions. With that said there have been no radical changes, and this game remains more or less a face lift for the original. Definitely the optimal choice for anyone looking to find out about the EU2 legacy though.

Another great game from the Europa Universalis franchise. Although very similar to EUII, on which it is based, FTG offers even greater historical depth, an improved AI and greater scope for modding than the original.

As with all Paradox games this is a fairly complex game, though not as much as some of their other titles, and if you have played any of the other EU games it shouldn't present an problems

If you like games with depth and lots of historical detail this is definitely a game you should try.

This is the Europa Universalis 2.5, so if you liked EU2 chances are you'll like FTG. Though all buyers should be warned that from the original development team, only one member is left, so it should be considered dead in my opinion.

This game is the souped up fan version of Europa Universalis II - probably the best game ever made. You can play this for the rest of your life and never tire of it. Of course it is a grand-strategy game so beware that this game could take over your life if you get into it!

Get this game if you're having an attack of EU 2 nostalgia. It's far better than the original and represents a solid alternative to EU 3 in all of its incarnations.

Excellent 'sequel' to EU2. The AGCEEP mod that comes with this game covers many different events during the time period and there is lots of historical flavor to the game. The addition of widescreen resolution support is also very nice. Highly recommend this game if you like playing EU2.

It doesn't really add all that much to EU2 on the face of it. The separation of cores and claims was interesting, but other than that it seemed exactly like EU2. If you're looking for a real upgrade from EU2, you're better off buying EU3.

If you enjoyed EU2, you will enjoy this. If you have played EU3, you may not enjoy going backwards, but this is still better than vanilla EU2..

A renewed EU2, a classic game for all Paradox fans. Most improvements are conducted with modding. You will only see them if you apply any mod, otherwise you may be disappointed. Personally, I prefer EU3 but it's great to remind myself what was my first Paradox game. If you are fan of Paradox grand strategy games or your PC is too old to handle the newer titles, this is a must-have!

I had far greater expectations for this game than it turned out to deserve. For one I expected this game to recieve a map shortly after release but it did not. For instance, the Holy Roman Empire is basically the same as it was in EUII, the developers said that if you wanted a fancy HRE then you should just buy Heir to the Throne... I suspect many did. In general this is a solid platform for making mods but you will not find all that many modders out there, the community for this game is basically dead although a few of the devs still seem to be planning another patch or two so support does not seem to have been entirely abandoned only buy this game if you absolutley cannot stand EUIII's a-historocity.

Judging by the large amount of positive reviews, many obviously big fans of this series, my review may draw flak. But is okay, as not ALL gamers are interested in the same types. It's important to list every different player's experience, so potential buyers have various reviews to help decide if the game is their type. 100% 5-stars obviously show only ones who really like the game wrote about it. Like-wise, 100% 1 & 2-stars don't show a truthful summary either.

That said .... my experience with this game was horrible. I buy about 1-2 games per month & have widely varied interest in game genres. USUALLY I can have fun with ANY game, although maybe only one-time-play for the ones which weren't as expected.

But from the many dozen games I have tried during the last 25 years or so, I can honestly remember only TWO that I simply deleted out of disgust & never had the slightest desire to try them again. Star Trek: Legacy was one, this game the other.

I typically LOVE these type of world-conquering/strategy games. That's exactly what caused me to buy this one. Not only could I build an empire by conquering COUNTRIES, this one looked like it went even further & had you to start out with REGIONS, states, principalities, whatever you want to call them. WOW!! This will last me for a LONG time.

It lasted about 1/2 of an evening, once I figured out the general commands & such .... which took me quite a while just to do that. This is a perfect example of a game which is WAY too in-depth & complicated. It's okay & fine to have to make the majority of "real-life-type" decisions, but having to resort to extreme micro-managing of EVERY resource, action, & decision is just irritating.

Some people will like this game, even love it. That's obvious from the amount of good reviews about it here. But there's also a sizable amount of gamers who will literally hate it. If you like several dozen, perhaps hundreds of minute details which you have to decide about when, where, how, what type, how many, & how often to engage, then you'll probably like this. But if you would rather have many of the tiniest, or even a few of the more important "real-life" actions to just be assumed/generalized/estimated, then this one is probably not for you. Because you WILL be making almost every single little decision in order for this game to proceed.

Once again, I'm not using this review to tell you NOT to buy the game, nor to encourage you TO buy it. I'm simply giving one owners experience with it, which you can use along with the others to help you decide if it will be right for you. And because of this, I'm rating it right down the middle, not good, not bad. My experience WAS bad, but I can easily see that the game most definitely is popular with a large amount of people. So that's pretty much proof that it certainly has the ability to be a highly enjoyable game.

Having played EU2, I must say that For the Glory greatly enhances game-play experience. The UI is what it should have been from very beginning, the ease of downloading, installing and then changing between different mods is great, and AI is at its all time height in the latest patch. I was happy to buy it for 20 euros, and for the current bargain price, it's a must buy for every EU2 fan. No new map with the release version, but great maps from modders, like Watkabaoi and MyMap.

As for new players, interested in Paradox games, this is no-brainer. This is the cheapest one out of Paradox strategy portfolio, easiest to get used to and proves lots of hours of fun for a bargain price.

And for those who started with EU3, if you want to experience what different path EU series could take, check it out. It's not some downgraded outdated version of EU3, its a different game and on par with EU3 in rich gaming experience, especially with AGCEEP (comes pre-installed) and other mods.

Satisfying, but in a slightly hollow way. For the Glory is a modified version of EUII, fixing bugs, enhancing the AI, and polishing a few of the graphics up.

Packaged with AGCEEP mod allows a player who picks certain nations to constantly be guided by historical events, while the ability to choose another path is often presented it can be bring chaos to the country.

Worth a purchase if you can't get enough of history and wish to "live" through it, but perhaps not if you already own EUII and have added some of the available mods to it.

I think this is, without doubt, the best step Paradox could take. Implementing the fan made AGCEEP patch along with the Age of Timur (1400), combined with greater game stability and a nice clean up of spelling errors etc. I for one hate EU3, so I was thrilled when they gave me this new opportunity to support this great game!

Don’t be put off this fine , enjoyable and highly informative game by some of the other reviews here. In all fairness some do have valid points. Firstly $20 is a lot of money to buy a veteran game I.e.e. EU2 released. with the AGCEEEP MODmy first experience of EUwas the EU3re lease the game is fantastic and I was hooked. Having never tried the original EU2 interface that is used in for the Glory I found it to be much less enjoyable to use. Sadly the EU3 3 interface and map is so much better and had theAGCEEEP mod been combined with eu3 it would have been a better game been but I understand the reasons for this, this was because EU2” was so easy to mod that the brilliant mod agceep came to be forgetting the interface the AGCEEPmod makes this a highly enjoyable game to play where you make decisions based on real world events, engrossing informative and challenging. Buy it and see.

There is essentially no game play improvement whatsoever over EU2. Only mouse (map) zooming, helpful tabs and a couple different mapmodes.

Not worth buying if your already an owner of the original.

This game packs the quintessential experience of Europa Universalis II. Of particular interest is the beautifully crafted Alternative Grand Campaign. Of course, For the Glory does not offer the more recent refinements and options of Europa Universalis III. Yet, as it is, we have a rock-solid historical game.

I bought it and I think it was still worth the money. It revived EU2 (which is an awesome game itself) and it has a wonderful team of developers who listen carefully to every complaint and critization. They are definitely worth the money.

Good game, however it is NOT worth $20. Wait for it to go on sale and then it might be worth it. Like all paradox games you need to be a Ph.D. in computer science to begin to tackle multiplayer. Buggs out lots of crash to desktops. Wait for feedback on 1.2 before buying.

Substantively, it is a nice game. Loads of events, historically it flows much better. Nice remake, buggy as all get out, and a bit expensive.

Meh. Having played modded EU2 for years, I found FtG to be underwhelming, essentially a $20 sprite pack for one of the most beloved games of my childhood. The developer's diaries looked quite promising but, in the end, this title doesn't offer anything you can't download for free and slap on a current install of EU2 (and, perhaps most importantly, FtG has a lackluster map, a problem resolved in EU2 by many user-made modifications). I'm not unhappy that I purchased it, but I wouldn't recommend it to others until Paradox releases a new patch justifying this game's existence.

With the included AGCEEP mod the replayablity options a huge. Every new country I have played so far is a diffrent experiance.

The game is so much better when EU3 when it comes to *historical* grand strategy.

With patch that is now included the game never crash during game play. The game is extreamly fast if you use the fastes speed (that I prefer to use during peace time).

The interfaces is easy to understand and concering trade you can choice to micro-manage or leave it to the AI. The only thing I lack is that you would have the same choice conceringe colonisation (that the AI could take care of that).

The diplomaty options are good including the option of vassals to have vassals. The fighting includes the element of tec advance, 6 diffrent unit types, leader skill and prefrence of you nation (offencive or deffencive etc). The ecomomic side inlude the choice of printing money and get inflation and the "usual" options to invest in army/navy/buildling/colonization. What realy sets the game a part is how the well the game engine fits with modding multiple historial choices (and events). And how mucha and well that is done in the AGCEEP mod.

I feel this game to be better than EU3 as this game offers something it doesn't, raw history. The events shape the game, but only as much as you let them. Unlike in EU3 where the end game map is vastly different in FTG it only turns out like that if you want it to.

I love this game and it is one of my faveourite games i own now. It has the epic scope that eu3 provides but gives it a structure which i feel eu3 lacks.

For the Glory is really fun. I like the older 2d engine compared to the Clausewitz one as it can run on any computer. The AGCEEP Mod is what gives this one the edge. Eu 3 is probably more streamlined, but the event in FtG add flavor and personality to the game. I will be using this on my laptop when my desktop pc isn't available.

For the Glory perfectly accomplishes to give EU II new life. With AGCEEP included is is the best game in the sector historical grand strategy, because with EU III going a more alternate history way this game is an experience of its own. You can basically relieve history and informing about events that happen ingame even improves your history knowledge again and again. Sometimes especially when you have played EU III the more deterministic way may seem a bit odd, but i guess thats the price you have to pay for being so close to actual history.

The interface additons to the EU II are great, i only preferred the old soundtrack with historical songs of EU II to the composed ones in here. But they are good, too.

One problem that still remains is that the game gives you crashes from time to time, but it isnt too bad considering you can continue at your last autosave. Also the development team is working on it and seems to be determined to iron out those things.

I rated For the Glory 4 stars. The historical flavor and events when running the included AGCEEP mod are outstanding. The interface improvements, notifications, and AI are moderately improved from Europa Universalis II. Unfortunately the asking price is, in my opinion, a bit high considering the age of the engine and gameplay. I found Europa Universalis III gameplay more engaging. I also prefer the dynamic mission and core expanding to lend for a more unique game experience every time.

Overall for fans of the original EUII, this is a must have.

I bought Europa Universalis III a year or two back and I find that this game is just a poorer, watered-down version of EU3, instead of an improvement. It is worth buying EU3 even though it is more expensive. Its graphics are much livelier, the panels are more informative and the controls are better. The battle scenes badly need improvement in both games. Two men continuously jabbing each other is hardly a respectable graphic for a modern computer game. The much older game of Imperialism2 had a very interesting combat mode, with troops of different strengths and movement capabilities fighting each other like pieces on a chessboard, allowing you to use your skills effectively.

The historical background behind EU3 and this game is highly informative and commendable.

Definitely worth it's prize, and you also get a very cool new avatar on the forums! :D

This is what EU II should have been. For The Glory extends and improves the EU II engine, fixing old bugs and adding new features. It is a wonderful effort.

Unfortunately, at least for me, the EU II engine feels dated compared to the Clausewitz engine of EU III. If only the effort could have gone into EU III instead...

I am really satisfied for this product. Even i liked EU3 alots, still it miss something that EU2 had and these new mods really gives new life for EU2.

It fixed some things i didnt liked at orginal EU2, and 1399 mod is nice mod too. Anyway "For the Glory" is still modfied EU2 so graphics are 2d.

Anyway i think its definately worth of its prize.
