Tried playing the game around 5 or 6 times now and i can't really seem to get where the game is trying to go, it has great potential to be a game like amnesia but at the min its a little boring. "maybe great on finished product"

A Promising Early Build

By Skeggers posted 8th November 2012

As it's at such an early stage of development, I don't feel bad saying that Enola is currently lacking in focus. One minor gripe is that the opening environment is a little too dark, meaning that I kept running into hills that I couldn't walk over and bumping into things, especially in one particular area full of paradoxically bright orange trees. Although exploring might be tempting at first in the relatively open area, there's usually nothing to find and if you go off track, it's difficult to find your way back, with the path that you need to follow often not being obvious.

That said, the game does do a good job of making you feel uncomfortable and building a surreal atmosphere, which in a horror game is pretty key, with offbeat piano plinking when you don't expect it and some rather disturbing imagery, more of which would be great.

It would be unfair of me to expect the graphics to be at their best at this early stage, but I feel that I should point out that some of the textures are really stretched in the opening stage and do distract a little from the atmosphere. It's also a little too obvious that the stripped-bare trees are just the same model copy pasted throughout the place.

Overall, then, with a tighter focus and a more natural flow between sections and stages, I can see Enola becoming something very impressive, provided it carries on pushing the boundaries of disturbing and grotesque scenery and a well-told story.
