Din's Curse review

By CoCoNUT31 posted 5th Dec 2011

I purchased this game without playing a demo, watching any gameplay videos, etc. And I got surprised by how awesome it is.

While it hasn't got the graphics of a Titan Quest, Diablo, or any other AAA-Title it's a really great Dungeon Crawling game. It has more roguelike elements than Diablo and is really easy to play.

You can play it Online and LAN with as many players as you want!

One of the best Indie- and Hack-And-Slay games I've ever played.

Best Regards from Germany

Din's Curse is a hack and slash game like diablo there are tons of loot to find and several different classes to try out there's even a hybrid class where you mix and match the classes together. The game world is dynamic and events changes according to your actions. NPCs can actually die and casuing you to have say no weaponsmith to buy weapons. The only setback is the graphics is abit dated as compared to a game like torchlight but the dynamic environment more than makes up for it. If you like hack and slash rpg and collecting loot and dungeon crawling, din's curse is a must buy for you!

wow! got this game because i got surprisingly addicted to DEPTHS OF PERIL (which was made by the same company as Din's Curse called SOLDAK entertainment) and I say surprised because, holy moly, next thing I know its morning! So I immediately looked for Din's Curse to fulfill my appetite for these kind of games. Seems like your typical hack and slash but upon playing the game, you realize its a living breathing world! And the monsters have their own goals. You really start caring for your town besides your character! This is not a mindless clickfest, this is a brainier action title. Yes it looting and grinding, but that's the foundation of the game and the rest is addicting gameplay. Nevermind the graphics - this is a game where gameplay is king! Try it out! and support these indie games with awesome ideas!

I have to say that im impressed by din's curse. it might not have the graphics and features of a triple A release but its a very interesting and very playable game that randomises so much in an intelligent way where your actions to actually matter for once.

Din's Curse (PC) review

Din's curse does what many games have done in the past by trying to create a successful diablo clone. Not only does the game succeed but it also has a few key features that help it to overcome some of the problems that are typical with other games of it's kind. The game has the same loot-oriented dungeon crawling that made it's inspiration so successful but it it does a few key things that sets it apart vastly. You are given a town built atop a dungeon to defend but what's different is that the town can actually fall. If you give the dungeon boss too much time to live he will send minions to other levels of the dungeons and may end up sending some straight into the town where the people and even quest givers can die. Once you have saved the town you are rewarded and are sent off to the next one. This is where din's curses' randomization shines through. Most games simply randomize their dungeons and call it a day but din's curse has multiple elements that change and randomize that not only makes each new town and dungeon different but also special. The the next town you go into might be stricken by a curse that might begin to affect you if you don't find the right ingredients to dispel it in time, or maybe the dungeon boss has a habit of creating machines that hinder your progress. The amount of variables are countless and in this they're actually meaningful. The game also has multiple variables when creating your character and preparing to go to a new town that can be set. You can change the size of the town, the pace of which things happen, or eliminate high-stress quests such as town attacks. The amount of options and the actual possibility of failure make this a highly interesting and addictive game that has a certain spark of it's own that doesn't try to make lightning strike twice. If I have any problems it's that the games' indie nature makes it not look particularly good and the controls are a bit clunky compared to other games of it's type. But all these will be overcome quickly and the sheer uniqueness of the whole experience will keep you playing for potentially countless hours.

Din's Curse (PC) review

By noisesolo posted 4th Sep 2010

Din's Curse is a continuation of Depths of Peril's experimentation in the hack-and-slash RPG genre where procedural generation and A.I. take centre stage.

While Depths of Peril simulated competitors with artificial intelligence, Din's Curse simulates the town. The town is a living, breathing aspect of this game as it tries, along with you, to defend against the dungeons below.

If you've played Depths of Peril, you'll feel right at home. There are more classes this time around but the fighting mechanics, character development, and graphical styles are largely the same. The fighting system is a bit clunky, but the payoff for seeing someone approach the hack-and-slash genre in a unique way is well worth it.

Your enjoyment will largely be based upon your interest in procedural generation, artificial intelligence, and dynamic creation. These aspects are what really bring an otherwise mediocre action RPG to something really interesting and compelling.

This game is like Diablo 1 on steroids.

I say Diablo 1, because you have one town, and one dungeon at a time. The reality of it though, is that this works exceptionally well.

Your task in each town is to complete quests to protect the citizens. Gather needed parts to build protective totems, or defeat certain bosses within the current towns dungeon. Once you clear the town, Din will allow you to move on to another to repeat the process.

Towns and dungeons are randomly generated, so you'll never run into the same thing twice. Monsters, traps, everything is new when you enter a new town.

Mutiplayer is present, and quite functional. Something lacking in Torchlight. There are central servers to connect to, as well as LAN, and direct connection internet games, So even if Soldak takes the central server down, you'll be able to play Dins Curse for years to come.

In conclusion, this is pretty much the best dungeon crawler/loot collecting game out there. Get it now!
