Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth.

Brought before the sacred Charred Council, War is indicted for his crimes and stripped of his powers. Dishonored and facing his own death, War is given the opportunity to return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible.

Hunted by a vengeful group of Angels, War must take on the forces of Hell, forge uneasy alliances with the very demons he hunts, and journey across the ravaged remains of the Earth on his quest for vengeance and vindication.

  • Apocalyptic Power – Unleash the wrath of War, combining brutal attacks and supernatural abilities to decimate all who stand in your way
  • Extreme Arsenal – Wield a devastating arsenal of angelic, demonic and Earthly weapons; and blaze a trail of destruction atop Ruin, War’s fiery phantom steed
  • Epic Quest – Battle across the wastelands and demon-infested dungeons of the decimated Earth in your quest for vengeance and redemption
  • Character Progression – Uncover powerful ancient relics, upgrade your weapons, unlock new abilities, and customize your gameplay style

Loved This Title

By Miscellania posted 14th August 2012

I personally loved playing Darksiders. I enjoyed the story line very much and it was just a really fun game to play through. Each attack had weight to it and it felt like I was actually hitting an orc or huge animal and not just a slashing threw thin air. I used the keyboard throughout the entire game and didn't have problems learning all the moves or reaching any of the keys. The PC port was no problem for me even without a controller. The whole system within the game is amazing and I loved to go through and solve the challenging puzzles that get harder as you progress, it made you feel like you accomplished a big goal when you finally overcame that portal puzzle that took you 20 minutes in one room to solve. I just really enjoyed this game over all and I would recommend it to anyone that likes the idea of an adventure hack and slash.

Awesome adventure Game

Darksider is a great, great, great adventure game. The game took inspiration in multiple great games like god of war and zelda without being a clone of those. Great environment, weapon, story line, puzzle, etc. Everything is just great about this game.

Awesome action adventure

Darksiders is a fantastic adventure game in the same style as Zelda and itīs itterations. Only darker and more mature. You play War one of the four horsemen of the apokalypse sent to earth after the signal for the last battle between angels and deamons have been sounded. You soon find out everything is not as it seems and you embark on journy for redemption and to seek the truth. The graphic design and effects are stellar and the action is smooth, fast paced and fun. The controls can however be a hurdle if you dont own a gamepad(preferably 360) wich tarnish the overall impression. The game can beacome a bit repetetive towards the last strech as well.

An Action/hack and slash game. A lot of epic boss battles and some, I would say basic, puzzle solving along the way. It's quite a lot like the Zelda games where you clear an area, find new items to perform new actions and in the end you fight a boss with the things you've learned. In my opinion the game works better with a controller than with mouse and keyboard.

What do you get when you combine God of War with Legend of Zelda and throw in a sprinkle of uniqueness? A great game that is luckily getting a sequel. Only bad side is that the port isn't that good, very little graphics options and if you meet only the minimum req.s you might not be able to run it.

Darksiders MUST PLAY!

By jasonnoguchi posted 9th July 2012

I am a FPS fan and I only play 3PS occassionally when FPS becomes frustrating. I bought and played Darksiders actually with the purpose of preparing for the much anticipated Darksiders2 with no big expectations. However, my experience in Darksiders totally blew me away!

I never expected a 2010 3PS hack and slash game to play so well, with such great graphics and gameplay design! Even for a FPS fan, playing as War in Darksiders is so incredibly satisfying! Great atmosphere, sound track, character design, story, character progression totally took me into the world of darksiders.

What I love best about darksiders are:

1. COMBOs! The weapon combos are limited only by your own imagination! In fact, I have heard of people chaining up to hundreds of hits combo while I have done 59 so far as my max! Seeing the fury of strokes and effects is totally satisfying! You feel like a boss!

2. Death Strikes! Yes, own enemies like a boss with death strikes!

3. Interesting areas and puzzles. Yes, its not just hack and slash. The puzzles in the dungeons are old school but are good enough to make you feel very good about your intelligence everytime.

Darksiders has always been about creative designs, both the world and the characters. I was looking forward to that in darksiders2 but am pleasantly surprised to the same treat in Darksiders.

This is a great game for spending hours without getting bored. You just want to keep going and going.

A great adventure game that you cannot not miss. With the second one coming around the corner, its a great series to invest it. It has a Zelda feeling to it, but is unique enough to warrant a play-through even if you have played the Zelda franchise. With many weapons, upgrades, moves etc. you will be bound to have a great time.

Darksiders is an action platformer where you play as Death, one of the four horsemen of apocalypse. Being accused of having prematurely started the end of days, you have to fight demons and angels to clear your name. The game takes inspiration on third person hack and slash action games, like Devil May Cry and God of War, but it does't feel like a cheap clone. Graphics and level design are pretty good, really immersing you into the apocalypse. During the game you find lots of weapons, upgrades and new powers. I highly recommend it.

this is a great game, if you have ever played Zelda or god of war, you'll feel right at home with this game. Its a hack n slash game that plays well. It has an interesting story that'll keep you intrigued. Just be sure to use a controller while playing this game since the PC controls (while still playable) could be very bothersome. This is also a port so don't expect advanced settings such as AA. Overall, you should definitely play this game.

Exceeded my expectations greatly. With a blend of hack 'n slash, platforming and puzzle solving this game is thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommendable and much more than just 'a god of war clone' as many claim it to be. If you liked any zelda games, you'll love this, and if you didn't then you'll still love it.

By Disinmas posted 29th May 2012

Darksiders is a game that COULD be quite good, but has flaws that make it much more difficult to enjoy. First, while it is flawed Darksiders does have its good points that make playing it palpable. The difficulty progression of regular combat is a steady upward climb, throwing tougher enemies at you slowly but fast enough to keep things interesting.

On top of this there are multiple upgrades for your weapons (increased damage, HP regeneration, Rage regeneration, etc. etc.), and these weapons will also level up as you attack with them making them more powerful. Each of the three weapons serves a different purpose as your general damage dealer (The Chaoseater Sword), crowd control weapon (The Reaper Scythe), or heavy hitter (the gauntlets) allowing you to mix up your attacks to deal with any given situation. On top of this they add new upgrades such as grappling hooks and shadow wings (that glide only) to make traversal of the world quicker and more fun. Then finally, the voice actor for the Watcher (who follows you throughout the game) is Mark Hamill, and sounds very similar to his Joker voice from the Batman Arkham games and the Animated Series.

Now, for the bad. The most glaring and in your face flaw of all is War himself, who is about as developed and nuanced as an angry cardboard cutout. His only personality trait is rage, tempered with a heavy dosing of stupid, his face constantly covered with an angry scowl. You could replace every single line he has with "Arrrgghhhhhh!!" and I honestly don't believe it would have a negative effect on the story. He falls for easy traps, he gets taken advantage of, and his only response to each situation is to beat it up. Its hard to care about him or his story because I think he'd cut my table in half if I served him the wrong type of tea. To further harm his position, hes slow and lumbering and it feels like your trying to control a semi with four flat tires sometimes.

The bosses while big and intimidating are all pattern recognition, and honestly Tia-mat (the first major boss of the game) is possibly the most difficult of them. They all devolve to dodge, attack weak spot, dodge, attack weak spot, removing any element of skill as long as you run away and shoot at it. To make this worse, even in the regular gameplay after a while the developers just throw their hands up and say "screw it, no more trying". New enemies simply start becoming old enemies with a different color scheme that hit a bit harder. Angels suddenly get a green flaming glow to them and become Fallen Angels, Skeletons get a green flaming glow to them and become green flaming skeletons. It becomes painfully obvious that the developers hit a brick wall when it comes to character design and just gave up.

I'll end this here before this review becomes a 100 page epic and state the following. If you really enjoy these style of Hack'n'Slash games and have already played the best of the bunch, then pick this game up. Otherwise go pick up a copy of Bayonetta and enjoy the cheesiness.

There are many games you will play in 2010 that will be unique, original creatures. Titles that truly innovate, and for years will be remembered for the trail they've blazed. Darksiders is not one of those games.

Instead, it's an action/role-playing game hybrid where you play as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who's been tricked into starting said Apocalypse when he really wasn't supposed to. Whoops. So you're sent to make amends, and by "make amends", I mean "kill everyone and everything responsible."

Playing through the game, it often feels like every element of Darksiders has been lifted from somewhere else. It plays like The Legend of Zelda (you even get a horse!), only with God of War's aesthetic and combat. There's also a bit of Prince of Persia platforming tossed in for good measure and even some Panzer Dragoon, all the above crudely cobbled together to form something else. It's the Frankenstein's Monster of January 2010.

Darksiders is a fantastic hack n slash type game with tight controls, interesting level designs, some unlockable abilities and a decent storyline that lasts at least 15 hours. I personally liked the art style of the game and enjoyed playing through from beginning to end. I originally had this game for Xbox 360 and liked it enough to buy it again for PC. I won't go into much detail because others have done that already so I will just say if you are thinking of getting this game I highly recommend it.

Although the game has simplistic combat, the level design of the temples and bosses are very good. The game is perfectly playable with a keyboard & mouse although the Alt button for dodge feels unnatural at first. The first couple of hours are quite boring and repetitive but then the temples kick in and the game becomes fun. The overworld isn't very big, but the game encourages exploration for treasure chests. The game may be a bit to easy for hack and slash veterans on normal so you should start on "Apocalyptic" difficulty, if you are. The final dungeon may be considered a "puzzle fest" for some people. I enjoyed it but it may have annoyed some. The story has a twist and has a satisfying ending. I enjoyed this game. All of the reviewers who decided to discredit the game on its orginality didn't mention that the game managed to add something that hasn't been included in the portal series: the ability to shoot portals through portals. Recommended, especially at its current price

Darksiders is something i haven't seen in a while on Pc. Very good hack 'n slash game, but its most important aspect is that it is focused on plot and story telling. The game is not just a slash random enemies through the end, it's the developing of a great story, the conflict between good and evil and everything that's in the middle.

Can't wait to play Darksiders 2!!

Excellent.

A good Action/Adventure

By shuyin posted 2nd December 2011

Darksiders is a good action/adventure (it's basically a Zelda clone, for those familiar with Nintendo's franchise). The combat system is reminescent of God of War's and the game structure borrows heavilly from Zelda: each dungeon/world/whatever you want to call it ends with a boss battle that in itself is puzzle-like.

The overall plot isn't bad at all, the graphics are good and if you are a completionist you can easily spend between 20-30 hours with this game.

All in all the game is pretty cheap and it's worth the money. A piece of advice: even though you can play fine with m/kb, i recommend you play with a gamepad.

If you like God of War or Zelda style games Darksiders is a solid choice. It has a lot of dungeons and puzzle solving to satisfy adventurers, but same time it has some cool action and nice boss fights.

However there are some flaws. Camera is getting in the way of action at times. There is also a lot of running around between different places trying to find stuff and that's get boring towards the end.

Overall it's a good game. 4 stars from me.

You are War, one horsemen of the Apocalyptic, you've been punished and sent back the the waste land that is now earth, you are striped of your ungodly powers and you start off in a semi-weak state but quickly grew in power as you regain what was taken from you, all along fighting huge monsters, and even bigger bosses. A lot of the boss fights are very Zelda like, find the weak spot, make the enemy fall down whack the head, repeated. However this isn't a bad thing. Think of it as Zelda for adults, with a dark graphic novel / comic book feel to the world (think John Constantine, Hellblazer or even the movie Legion.) All and All, you're big, you're bad and you're gonna kick butt and have a great time doing it.

Darksiders - So good, I bought it twice

By wraith808 posted 29th November 2011

Excellent game with an epic storyline, great progression, and outstanding action. I would recommend a gamepad to get the most out of the experience. You play as War (yes, that war), stripped of most of his power, but not his thirst for revenge after being tricked and hung out to dry. He's given a chance to redeem himself, but hobbled with a companion that looks for any excuse to pull short the leash (and incidentally gives hints and quests), and most of his power scattered all over reality (which gives an excuse to go looking for it). Souls are the currency here, and used to reactivate powers and abilities, and to power them. You get them from- of course- slaying everything that moves, and destroying everything you can get your hands on. A mix of platforming (though very forgiving in that respect most of the time) and hack and slash. Recommended, and as the title says, I bought it on my 360 and my PC.

A medicore or maybe better than average smash and jump adventure, at least played on PC. Seemed fun and exciting at start, good deal of hacking and slashing and nice setting for an epic, but the thing that annoyed the whole time was bad controls and repetition in the later parts of the game.

The combat was pretty good with lots of monsters and quite a lot of weapons, enjoyed a bit of slashing with a big sword, but the ranged weapons were really underpowered even when upgraded against melee opponents at least. Maybe that was the whole point though, shooting everything down would have made it too easy and more boring, but anyways. The puzzles were ok at start, good that there were something else to do between fights, but towards the end it was more like "not this agaain!" as they were like copies of themselves at least in the end when you reach the citadel, and the akward controls didnt help here either. Oh the frustration when you have to jump and shoot at the same time to get something opened, always fell to your death or worse. (bangin on the keyboard, keys flying out)

If you can, play on consoles or with a pad. (I was too lazy to get one and maybe the whole game suffered from that)

The only thing I found negative about this game was the feel that the action was driven by button-mashing. There's plenty of combos available to give the strategic player more variety, but they're not necessary to progress through the game. But a good game, nonetheless. 4/5

A must have for action/puzzle mix games lovers. I actually wanted to rate it 4.5 stars but the systems does not allow me and a 4 stars rate seemed unfair so I rated it 5 stars. This game is a good paced action game with clever puzzles in the middle to relax your nerves while your brains come into action. I believe some puzzles are actually a pain to solve but none of them are impossible, sometimes you just have to keep trying different ways. Boss fights are cool, some pretty easy, some pretty hard untill you figure out how to deal with every manace. The combos and weapons unlocking pace are just precise, as when you just get used to one, you get another one to learn so, its a very clever designed "timing". OK, a few upgrades and boosts I really never used but nonetheless there is a wide variety of choices for you to slice your foes with. The real down side of game is that there is almost no graphics option for you to mess with, altough it is pretty beautiful enough as it is, more tweaking choices would amaze us more. That said, this is a game that will keep you busy for many hours and never bore you, well worthy the price.

This game is very zelda-devil may cry-ninja gaiden but in a western feel. The game does not have a bunch of options for settings (which is code for crappy port in my eyes).

But the most important thing is that there is a lot of mindless fun to have. There is a combo system that you build up, but the first couple of hours, expect to be jumping, and swinging that massive sword.

I do like that this game is able to use a controller, as I like being able to play the game lying in bed or sitting on the couch.

Another plus, its steam-activatable.

Would I spend 20 bucks on the game? Yes

Would I spend 30 bucks on the game? Yes

The characters are are very diverse and memorable. I love the grave voices of the bad guys.

The Combat feels good. All your attacks feel more powerful with every upgrade you make. You will find a quite a few interesting weapons along the way, each with it's own set of combos.

The Story is not exceptional, but it's good enough to make you want to know what's next.

Darkiders have a very good gamesystem, looks awesome, sounds great and provides a very long experience of single-player content. At first it looks like a God of War or Dante's Inferno, but later you can compare it with a Zelda. For controls this is not especially comfortable with the mouse and keyboard I prefer the gamepad. Honestly, I was expecting a simplistic hack and slash game. Really, what you get is exactly that, and yet much more than that. The gameplay is dynamic and interesting, and you can return to old locations to discover secrets (and sometimes interesting little easter eggs, not the game spoiling kind ;) ) simulating a sort of "open world." All in all I found myself spending much more time in this game than I thought, couple that with a interesting story and unique take on the battle between heaven and hell and I can't help but give it 5 stars. Perhaps it's because my expectations were fairly low when I ordered it, but this truly is quite a nice game and I feel it has earned my rating.

People say it's a God of War + Legend of Zelda 's son. I have no idea if that's true or not, since I never played both that title.

Coming into action smashing game after my last encounter with Devil May Cry 4, I almost forgotten how I missed the animation of crushing the enemies to small puddle of blood.

You are War, one of the four horsemen. You were tricked into joining the Apocalypse earlier, and now you have to give every demon you encounter a taste of sword across their neck in order to clear your name. And a lot of head will roll the ground, I'd say.

The controls are easy to master, provided that you used the Xbox 360 Controller. Most of the time simple combination and your fast reaction time will ensure you're the last man standing. If you find yourself enjoying mud buffet too much, you can spend souls, harvested from enemies, to upgrade your War. Health, damage, weapon, all can be upgraded.

There are some exploration included too, where you have to find artifacts to increase your health, or other stuff that can be traded for souls, or just more weapons and move combination. At least it's a break from the constant button mashing. The puzzles are not that hard, a little bit of thinking will usually get past barrier easy enough. Some levels require you to obtain stuff that you are to get a few level LATER, forcing you to backtrack to previous location in order to open the secret. I don't really mind that, since I was itching to introduce some demon to my metal friend anyway.

Anyway, I really like this game. If you like Devil May Cry series, then you might like this too. I know I do.

The gameplay is based on great combat with a lot o violence and gore,an item/level system that improve your power through the game and some nice puzzle that involve a lot of effort to be resolved.

The graphics is fine, with its own unique stile and I'm pretty sure everyone would love it. Same goes for the story, ispired by a comic book.

The only "trouble" would be the control system,it's obviusly made for a pad,so if you don't have a controller it's time to get one ;)

Darksiders review

Howdy hoo ppl

As u can guess this is the Ported version of ps3 to pc of DarkSiders

Few things to note, The controles while u can think they are crap since its pc but they are preatty good aktually.

Not perfect but u defently can play it.

The system is forgiving so if u miss a hack and smack on a button it wont cost u ur life.

Although sometimes u get pwnd.

Just scratch ur head and hit him harder back usually works.

This game is not all about brute force although it usually helps.

The game also has a fightclub tendecy to it wich means there is no rules and if ur arent last one standing u lost.

If u see something u can use to crush ur opponents in the most horrible way possible do so and await the resualt the graphics in the game is preatty good and animations are very well made.

Although there is some minor graphics buggs on some grafiks cards but disableing vertical synch usually clears it right up.

Over and all the game is good story is good.

Although many of the things u do in the game u have allready done in sevral games like zelda ocarina of time and proboly megaman :p

but its defently not a clone.

Darksiders has its own style its own rules.

Tthe game stands on its own feet in many other areas that some other games fail horribly on.

not sure if this Review helps u but Personally im a Core gamer wich get bored easily if the game dont apply to my taste and common sense.

Darksiders caught my eye on Ps3 and well here we go bouhgt it for pc aswell.
