Dark Shadows - Army of Evil review

Game serves a decent indie game. However this game is difficult at best and flawed. Difficult games are not bad but graphics are screwy and there seems to be many bugs at launch for this title. I have had a chance to talk with developers and i did post bugs but go no response.

Dark Shadows - Army of Evil review

I first saw this game on Steam Greenlight and after watching the trailer decided to vote "yes". I thought it looked quite neat and a bit of a throwback to first person slashers of yester-year like Dark Messiah Of Might and Magic, Kingsfield, and the Hexxen series. What this game may lack in visual fidelity it makes up for with fun interesting combat. When I say lack of visual fidelity, I mean from what I have read of others opinions on the game. To me the graphics and visuals are spot on. I feel like the game has a unique look to it and I really like it. The options menu, while different in its layout, still boasts quite a few scalable features. The only one I found missing was a gamma control in-game. There is really not much in the way of real reviews on this game yet as it just came out, which is why I am posting this one.

The first level of the game is a bad representation of what the rest of the game plays like. (Well, I have made it to level 5 so far...) In this first level you will face one seemingly invincible enemy, and fetch keys to unlock doors and get a sword. After this first level, the game seems to change completely. It turns into a true Hack N' Slash. The combat, while not the most fluid looking, is quite varied and has been alot of fun for me so far. I was very hesitant to buy this game mainly because of the lack of reviews and gameplay video, but after taking a chance I am glad to have added this game to my collection!

Dark Shadows seems like an interesting concept at first, but several problems keep it from scoring higher. Clunky controls, long loading times, and lackluster plot all drag this title down. Considering this is an indie game I'd be willing to ease off on some issues, but unless this game can get patched to be a little tighter in some areas, it just isn't worth your time or your money.
