I really enjoyed this game. It is very immersive and the growing uncertainty if you (the game character) are really experiencing all those disturbing events or if you are just descending into complete madness. I think the idea of searching for clues in documents is really great, but the only flaw is, that you are not able to underline clues in every document. Only on the highest difficulty is this possible. (At least I didn't find an option to switch underlining to always on) But on highest difficulty you aren't able to see how many clues you have missed because the counter is not available. But this is only nitpicking. I would recommend to start directly with the highest difficulty because of this, it only changes the possibility to get ingame tips (aren't too useful anyway) and disables the clue counter.

After all a really great game, but be warned: it ends on a kind of cliffhanger and I can't wait to play the second one to unravel the rest of the story!

i really wanted to like this game as i'm a big fan of lovecraftian horror, and i really liked the adventure game scratches, which also is based on the same kind of horror,

but what this game fails to do is to build up a tension of what is going on.

you are often left without any direction which makes it difficult to feel completely immersed into the game.

and after a while you realize it could have been so much better

Environmental graphics were quite well done. Character modeling was a bit lackluster, but you don't see any characters through a majority of the game, so it doesn't damage the atmosphere too badly. This was a fun game, and a good effort, made double so by the fact that it was apparently only made by three guys. Good sound production too. Nice story, though told in a miminalistic fashion, obviously heavily inspired by Lovecraft.

One large caveat though: I resorted to a walkthrough for most of this game. I am not an adventure game novice, but there were some rather major deductive leaps throughout the puzzles in this game that I wouldn't have even been able to realistically brute force my way through. Some of the stuff was pretty left-field. If I didn't have a walkthrough for the game, I would not have beaten it and would probably have rated it one star, heh.

Off to play the sequel.

Fans of Lovecraft will probably enjoy the storyline as it's heavily inspired by the author's work; meddling with the uncertainty of madness.

Graphics are good and the overall soundtrack is great. I've played at detective level and must admit I had to use a walkthrough a couple of times, mainly because of the lack of direction in the game. You may revisit most of the places you've went at any time thus making searching for the next clue somewhat a pain. But the worst part lays in document searching... I really enjoy adventure games, even if they rely on heavy reading but having to truly analyze text was a bit to much for my taste.

Although my reviews may sound negative, I did actually enjoy the game for the story kept my pushing onward. Can't wait to get my hands on the second instalment...

Looks nice but is otherwise insipid and uninspiring.

The plot is plodding and heavily dependant on reiterative text document searching. What few puzzles there are are either a token gesture or more a case of being solved by luck than deductive reasoning.

A waste of money and time.

Better off with Scratches; Barrow hill; Lost crown or either of the Darkfalls than this wannabe drivel.

I enjoyed this game. It's story line was intriguing and the graphics were good. The atmosphere was creepy and the some special effects made for some shocking moments throughout the game. The ending was a little more ambiguous than I generally care for though it made obvious what the end scene alluded to. The voice of the main character sounded a lot like the main character is "Scratches" . . . hmmm. The game does give you a score at the end based on what you accomplish and I like that. I'll probably play it again. I'm looking forward to seeing what these guys do next.
