Battle Group review

By oogla posted 19th March

Battlegroup is a short but fun rail shooter. The graphics are relatively simple but suit the game well. The game is fun, you can choose up to two ships from your fleet for any given mission. The ships follow a set path and you simply control their weapons. Different ships have different weapons ranging from missiles, anti-sub helicopters, cannons and close-in defense auto guns.

The game is fairly easy, the only real challenge being the final boss. As your primary weapon for the game will be a missile launcher, the game has a bit of a missile command feel to it. This is a good thing, as blowing up the targets is fun and satisfying.

The game itself is fairly short. And although you can buy upgrades for your ships and swap them around, the missions are the same regardless of the ships you use. Because of this the replay value is fairly limited. Most of the replay value comes from repeating the occasional mission that you did not get maximum score on the first try.

At the current $5 price. the game is worth buying only if it's on 50% off or better. It's just too short to justify full price. However, if you have kids or other people in your household that will enjoy the game and get more game play, you may see more value for your money.

Battle Group review

BattleGroup looks and sounds good for an indie game, but as is often the case with rail shooters, the unvaried gameplay quickly becomes monotonous. You can't control the ships, just click to fire at enemies. After half an hour, the clickfest was over.

There are some upgrades and you get new ships as you progress, but it isn't enough the give the game the depth required for sustained play. That said, it is inexpensive, and it's good to support small developers.

In Battle Group you take command of a variety of ships, in control of weapons systems. In effect, it is a top-down perspective on-rails shooter, as you cannot plot the course of your ship.

Missions present themselves in a linear order where you must clear one to advance to the next and are graded on your performance. For high marks, you receive points with which you use to upgrade your armada and unlock more ships.

All in all a casual game. The writing is cringe worthy and by no stretch is this game deep and mentally engaging. But if you just want to sit down and do nothing more than cause explosions, this might be the game for you.
