Alien vs Predators Classic 2000 review

It's all about the lighting engine and the sound design in AvsP2000. It's just as pants-soilingly fun as I remember when it was originally released in 1998, but running on my much more powerful modern system. Nothing will top the first time you hear the skittering of a facehugger from somewhere in a room you can't see (especially not the newer AvsP). Turn on night vision to take a better look (removing the motion tracker), only to have the thing jump out and attach itself to your face with a screech. You'll scream like a baby and probably get some nice hang time leaping from your chair.

The Predator isn't quite as well realized as the other two campaigns, and they've changed some of the FMV videos in the game as well, much to my dismay, as is the elimination of the survival-based multiplayer.

Definitely worth checking out for fans of the franchise[s] or someone looking to be scared by their FPS. Just keep a fresh pair of pants handy.

An oldie but a goodie.

This game is very good, I'm not going to say it isn't. However, at this point it is very dated and besides the game-play, which is still well done in my opinion, the story doesn't give you much of a reason to go on. I got it when it was on sale, depending how much you love the series you may want to wait until it is on sale again.

This game is definitely a classic in my book. I believe this game started the beginning of a lot of AVP games in my opinion. The graphics are good for it's time, & it has PLENTY to offer as far as variety. If you've never played this game before, it's definitely worth the money. You'll realize what you've been missing after you've played it.

IF you know what the word "classic fps" mean you can stop reading and get this game. If not, keep on reading. You have three campaign, one as the Aliens, one as the Predator and one as the weak old humans. Truth be told I like the human missions the best, they have a very classic feel to them, kill the aliens as soon as they appear or you die, simple to the point. All thought the game is on rails that doesn't make it bad. If you're a fan of cheesey 2000/1990 pc game with FMV and bad voice acting you will love this. If I had to point out one thing it would be easy is too easy and hard way too hard. All and all a solid classic, and that is the key word here, FPS experience.

The game has three races, solider, alien and predator, and follows a different style of game play. The alien walking on walls and ceilings, predator using cloak to sneak up on soliders and kill them, and humans standard fps game play. The levels are confusing and hard to play

is you move in the wrong direction you have to start the level over again.

Pros:

Atmosphere. Appropriate to the nature of the setting, the architecture is malevolent primarily because it is uncompromising; it has its goals, and if you wish to disturb those goals or stand in their way, then you shall die. You become accustomed to certain sounds meaning that you must immediately panic and fire. The fear reaction will be replaced by a certain amount of ease and comfort with the combat eventually.

The locations and equipment are very, very, very familiar to Aliens fans. It's borrowed very nicely from the movies. The more Alien-oriented scenes are somewhat less obvious in their genesis and become welcome diversions no matter which creature you play.

The game is well-balanced and fun, the violence all-around fun.

It's not too expensive, and is well worth the cost for the fun you'll have.

Cons:

Well, it's not very deep. You don't play this game and think to yourself, 'My goodness, I'd never thought of that facet of life this way before.'

Also, it panders rather obviously, choosing settings and scenarios which are, as a whole, rather familiar to Aliens fans, albeit there are a few scenarios and locations which are new and amusing in their own right.

The difficulty is not insurmountable, and you will finish this game in time, no matter the difficulty setting.

A fun old school shooter that allows you to play 3 distinct style. This fps is simply great for its time, while it offers unique game-play experience the graphics is somewhat dated resulting in an unappealing title for those who are used to better graphics shooters. I recommend this to anyone who loves to play shooter in a sci-fi setting.

A Oldschool Tunnel "Shooter" with 3 distinct Campaigns:

- Alien: Stealth Based Melee which can climb walls and Ceilings,2 different Vision Modes For Navigating or to find your Prey.Headbites give health, more if Victim is still alive.

Crawl along the dark ceiling, drop on a quivering civilian, bite his head off then jump away quickly before his dropped Molotov hits the ground and sets you aflame,or the marine guard can perforate you.

- Marine: Fps Dude with big guns from Pistol over Smartgun to a Minigun,Flares,Motion tracking,Nightvision, healthpacks.

Press your back against the wall as you hastily advance through the Darkness, turn a corner, suddenly your Nightvision overloads,Damn, still Lights on in this Section!

You switch to normal, and fire a Pulse rifle burst into the leaping xeno which gets ripped apart way to close and sprinkles you with his acid blood.

- Predator: Hunting Weapons like Spear,Disc,Shoulder Cannon, plus Cloaking Field and 3 Vision Modes,"Healing"(surely you have seen the Movies) costs Suit Energy.

Switch to Thermal Vision to get a Lock on the Marine guarding the other side of the bridge, splatter him with your Shoulder plasma gun, cloak, and then Rip the spine from his alarmed buddy and add it to your Trophies.

Cons:

- NO MULTIPLAYER patched in,if you want MP get Avp Gold or get it on Steam, they have mp patched in,but it costs more there.

- Dated Graphics (See Screenshots ot look for a Gameplay Video if you are unsure)

- Sometimes a bit stupid AI Pathfinding, but no Gamebreaker

Pros:

- Skirmish modes (Hold the bunker)

- 3 types of Gameplay.Sneaky Alien,Honorbound Hightech Predator,Glassgun Marine running and gunning through Alien/Predator/Facesucker infested Tunnels.

- Meaty Weapons which strike Hard. The Pulserifle for example is not such an peashooter like avp2 or ,god forbid, avp3.

Btw: The Marine Campaign, for example, has randomly Aliens entering the map, scrawling, running through the vents, searching, hunting you.

There are preplaced Enemies here and there ,but nothing keeps the Pressure up like an Enemy which can jump at you from anywhere, anytime and kill you with a few hits.

It has 4 difficulty Levels which can adjusted at each Chapterstart.

Fazit: If you *dont* have a Problem with the Graphics or the Lack of Multiplayer(not patched in atm 17.08.2011),get it!

If you really want Mp,get the Steam version, they have patched in MP in avp classic 2000 afaik, but it costs more over there.

Its a tight, scary, intense Shooter/Melee Game and really worth the few Bucks.

But due to the dated Graphics i can hardly go to 5 stars.

Didn't think I'd like this that much, but the price can't be beat to try it. It's actually a lot of fun. Controls work pretty well, even though I've read different opinions on the difficulty of them. Being able to crawl around on walls and ceilings as an Alien is really fun. All the factions are easy to get the hang of, and play differently. Definitely worth getting if you like old shooters and don't need the major graphic detail of newer games to enjoy the game.

One of the top classics when it comes to shooter games. I would even say the first FPS horror game. Thrills it gives you is all worth the pocket money it costs.

Yes! One of the most ultimate games, taking place in Aliens vs Predator universe. Three species to pick (average human, but with most potent weapons ; really stong and resilent plus fast Predator ; weak but stealthy and really fast Alien). Any speciemen you chose, are offering different gameplay - then you get three games in place of one! Also you can afford this for mere lunch money. How cool this can be?

First time I played this game was in 2000 and it was brand-new.Now in 2011,it have become a true classic FPS-game.The good part is that you can choice if you want to play as alien, predator or soldier.

The bad part is the short missions.

This game still holds up well for being as old as it is, solid single player campaigns though due to the unfortunate loss of multiplayer it doesn't really have much to offer anyone for coming back...thankfully I got this when it was only $2.50 so I'm not complaining as the singleplayer campaign is well worth the price and then some

AvP Gold has been one of my favourite games for many years. Scary and exciting single player campaign; fantastic fun as a multiplayer game over LAN. However there are some problems with the old version (as discussed here).

The version here runs smoothly on XP BUT by stripping out the LAN option it has become a eunuch. After completing the single player campaign again you are left with nothing else to do. Therefore I would recommend not buying this if you can get a copy of Aliens vs Predator Gold instead. This version has been crippled by Rebellion.
