Alien Hallway review

This is not a gound breaking game by any means. But it is a fun little strategy game. As you progress through the game you gain new units and earn money to upgrade your existing ones. Each level an unit is upgraded makes them do more damage and take more hits.

You can also use the money you earn to improve your defense turret, lower your unit respawn times, and increase your cash earnings per battle.

The battles themselves are very short. Each round generally takes only a few minutes. This means you will want to build your stronger units early to get them in the fight. Though I also found that swarms of cheaper units was just as effective as a few more powerful ones.

As you progress through the levels, the enemies also get stronger units to throw against you. This is randomized a bit, so you may find one play-through of a given mission you'll have almost no resistance and another play-through of the same mission you'll get hit with several waves of suicide bombers. This keeps it interesting since you will be playing those levels over and over to earn cash to upgrade your units.

Even with this repeat play, the entire game is quite short. The battles are so quick that you should be able to build all the units and win the game within a couple hours of game play. Still, this is a fun pick up and play game, and it's inexpensive to buy. Just don't expect to be coming back to play it over and over once it's finished.

I purchased this game as part of an indie bundle. I love supporting indie developers since they are often the ones to bring true innovation and take the risks that take games to the next level. So I didn't have high expecations for this game. But I was surprised. It is not a deep game, but if you are looking for a game that will keep you busy for some quick and easy fun, then this is a good game to pick up. The options menu is robust enough and it does have a decent tech tree and has a good variety of units both for your army and for the aliens. It was definitely worth it for me as part of the bundle, and is a good pick for anyone wanting some simple action to keep them occupied.

It's okay. Sort of one of those games meant to be played in quick spurts. It drags and loses it's charm the longer you play as it doesn't change much the further you get in, only more to defend yourself with.

A decent if somewhat generic Plants-vs-Zombies-style defense game.

Alien Hallway won't wow anyone with originality, but it's a decently-put-together take on the "hallway defense" genre, with decent graphics, reliable gameplay, and an entertaining ambiance. It's a fun way to spend a few minutes every now and then if you like the genre, but it's one of those games where everything you need to know about it is in the title -- if setting up marines to blow up constant waves of aliens doesn't appeal to you, this game isn't for you.

The game starts out fun but quickly grows old since there isn't much strategy to be had here. The levels don't change anything with the gameplay, and later levels only become harder in that there are more aliens to fight off. I'm a huge fan of tower defense games, and where variants to the genre have succeeded (Plants vs Zombies and Swords and Soldiers come to mind) this variant leaves a lot to be desired.

The game itself is really repetitive.

It doesn't really require much of your computer, but it still has quite a few problems, which can make it unplayable.

It is a simple games, looks good on the outside, but not so great when you first get going.

I can not recommend this to others.

1.15 Update for Steam/BigFish /PirateBay NOT Gate

By Carnival73 posted 1st November 2012

1. The version here is 1.0 not the most recent update to 1.15.

Only patches 1.1 & 1.12 can be found on the net and are stickied and locked in the developer's forum however neither recognize the Gate installation and do not allow you to select install location.

If no one is still offering 1.15 via torrent at the time of reading this I would avoid purchase.

I don't believe it to be Gate's fault but it is yet another example of indie developers not following through with updates with retailers who are not Steam.

2. I have Alien Hallway running on my old SSE Single Core Athlon XP Processor under a AGP GeForce 7300GT. It may or may not just be my card (7300GT is one of the few GeForce's not developed specifically for gaming) but I had to turn off all lighting features (Bloom, Dynamic Lighting, etc.) less suffer a pretty hard blue screen in both Gate and Torrent versions.

Once I got the game running it is a decent Time Management game much like Swords & Soldiers however I cannot recommend it considering the lack of support from the developers.

This is classic sigma team game in action and also classic indie at it's best, sure it won't set the world alight but it is full of charm and will make you smile with it's comical sense of humour,if you remember the classic Dan Dare either in comic form or the cartoon or even past versions of the game you may remember a character call "The Mekon" well all the characters in here all look like the love childs of the Meken in all their green form so that made me laugh. As for the game itself it is so very easy to control, you don't have to place any turrets or even control your squads, you have dozens of these green men trying to reach your base and you have to repel the advancing hoard by creating units, plenty of upgrades are availavle so it's your chice how you wish to destroy the enemy,i love the flame thrower myself, great to waste 10 mins on this or even longer but it's easy just to pick up and play without having to learn what to so,it rate it 85%.
