Three Dead Zed Enhanced Edition review

By oogla posted 19th March

Three Dead Zed is a platformer with good cartoonish graphics, fun gameplay and a good funny story. The main character is zombie who is an experimental subject in a laboratory. Without giving too much away, he gets loose and makes his way through the complex avoiding traps, solving puzzles and eating humans on the way.

You have three forms, the main form which can move small objects, jump and fight. This form is also the only one that can operate switches. The second form moves much faster and jumps much farther, but cannot fight at all. And finally the third form is very strong, able to move larger objects and smash walls and floors but moves slowly.

The puzzles are standard fare. Move this box so you can jump on it and reach the switch then eat the guard on the other side of the door and so on. The platforming is fun but not amazing. There is no shortage of amazing indie platformer games out there, and this one doesn't really stand out from the pack in this area. However what is there is enjoyable.

What makes this game special is the art and story. The animations are funny and enjoyable, and the characters are well designed. The humor is great. The story is not very deep, but what is there keeps the game moving and fun.

The game certainly gives enough entertainment to justify the $5 price tag. However if you can find it in a bundle or on sale even better. There's a good amount of humor and fun to be had here.

Very smooth classic style platformer.

Animation and visuals are above average. Narrative is bizarre and quirky.

The gameplay is punishing on occasion, mainly due to over sensitive collision detection, but overall does not become frustrating. It actually reminds somewhat of old platformers where microsecond precision was sometimes required to progress.

Not A Waste..

The Game Ran Well And The trasformations were relatively smooth..

However, the platforming was kinda akward and the story did not

manage to hold my interest...

Also,cats with tin foil hats..

I've always enjoyed playing as the "enemy". There are only a handful of games that allow you to play as the opposite of the typical hero. This creates a totally different dynamic in the puzzle/platformer aspect. It reminds me mostly of Earthworm Jim of the past. Such an odd hero to have; much like the zombie that we are playing with in this game.

The art is breathtaking and the puzzles are intuitive. And of course, I love rescuing kittens! How dare these scientists force those kittens to live under unorthodox environments. Don't they know, cats are the future!

This game will put your new-found zombie abilities to the test. A fitting game for the puzzle addict! Always use your brains!

The game has decent humor and a funny story (provided you like internet-based humor), but the platforming itself is below average. Overall a decent game but needs improvement.

I'm a bit of a sucker for platform puzzlers, so this game is off to a good start. It's schtick is that you can transform between three different monster forms. Perhaps not a terribly novel idea as puzzle platformers go, but still, it works - you got the standard form which is a zombie, a frog-like form that can jump far and stick to walls, and an ogre-like form that is strong and can bash and lift heavy objects.

I like the animation style, and the puzzles are appropriately ghoulish and competently crafted, but I'm still left with an unfinished feeling from the game - like it was a beta. A promising beta, without any major bugs, but a beta all the same.

Very fun and quirky game. Being able to morph into different forms, rather than have seperate characters was a nice touch. I enjoyed making it a part of my bundle.

Terrible controls ruin a potentially fun game

By Gaymera posted 12th September 2012

Three Dead Zed has unique graphics along with some interesting game mechanics and quite a sense of humor. Unfortunately, it's marred by the worst controls I've ever played in a platform game. Moving and jumping with any degree of accuracy are impossible because of a weird microsecond pause before the controls actually respond -- this affects both keyboard and gamepad, and makes the game nearly impossible to navigate properly.

This type of shoddy programming is a killer for puzzle platformers in general and ruins any kind of immersion and enjoyment you would hope to get from Three Dead Zed. It's too bad, because the game has a lot of charm and potential. Stay far away from this one.
