Sacred 2 Gold Edition

Installation isn't working

By Varthorne posted 28th Dec 2012

I just downloaded Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. Once the download was complete, when the installer tried to launch, I got "error reading setup initialization file". I decided to save the temporary files, just in case.

I took a quite look in those files, and tried running the installer in compatibility mode. However, it tells me that "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package". The compatibility options didn't let me choose a windows version; it only allows me to select "previous versions of windows", and the other options are greyed out. When I try to run "Autorun", I get "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running ....". This file, however, actually allows me to select the windows version I want, and the other options are available.

None of the other files (such as manuals, readmes, etc.) seem to be working either.

I've looked around, and it would seem that this is a result of a bad download (despite the fact that I haven't actually received any errors). The downloader kept losing its connection at first, and on two or three occasions, told me that the download was paused (for some mysterious reason), and that I could unpause it (which I did). I suspect that this might have had something to do with it.

The only solution I can see at this point is to try re-downloading the game. However, I have an 80 GB limit per month, and with this first download, I'm already down to around 40 GB, with another 2-3 weeks before the next reset date. Thus, I'm reluctant to try that.

Does anyone have any other solutions in mind?

I'm no expert, but I know the Gamersgate installer sometimes cause problem with anti-viruses. Maybe you could try disabling you anti-virus or something? Although, you'll probably be better to wait until someone who knows what their talking about replies! :P

taytothief is right, just temporarily disable your antivirus when redownloading, and you'll be fine. This is something that happens quite often, especially with people using Norton, but it's no big deal.
