Is there a way on steam to put a game in inventory ?

By Pomme posted 11th August 2012

Hello everyone,

First please excuse me I'm French and my English isn't the best of the world :P

I had one question because I buy Steam-keys and I was thinking about putting them into my inventory, not directly into my steam-games list, for exchange it for example, or give it on Steam to a friend, etc...

Is there a way to do that ? :)

Thanks !

I think there is no way to do what you ask..sorry

No, you can't put them in your inventory yet (but I'm pretty sure they're working on that though), but you can still write down the codes and gift them manually through a PM :)

Yey, so I will continue to do that ! Thanks. :)

(Oh, and what is this "Reward" column in GameTutor, with 500 value ? :o)

Note that you can one reveal one serial per game and account. So the method that spamb0t suggested will not work if you already own the game, or if you want to give away any game more than once. Also, you can't own more than two copies of any game.

I have not heard on anybody working of Steam inventory integration for GamersGate, where is this information coming from?

The "proper" method of gifting any games bought on GamersGate is to use the "Gift This" feature. You can send gifts to mail addresses or (preferable, because there's less that can go wrong) to your GamersGate buddies. So my recommendation is: Your friends should make GamersGate accounts, and then you can gift the games directly to them. They can then reveal the Steam serial.

Actually, he said that he bought the codes and didn't redeem them, so my solution WOULD work :)

And also, I was referring to Steam. That they are working on a solution for putting games in your inventory. It has nothing to do with GG.

But I admit since the question was asked here, he probably means gifting on GG, not Steam. Just didn't think about that.

The point is, if he buys two Steam-based games here, then he can only reveal one key, so he won't be able to write the other key down and send it to a friend. Having the friend make a GG account, and gifting him the game, would work though.

I'm still not sure that I understand the "working on the inventory" statement - I don't know who's supposed to be working on it, which feature specifically is supposed to be added, and where this info is coming from. I'm not sure it's relevant though. What's probably safe to say is that Pomme was looking for a kind of integration between GamersGate and Steam with regard to gifts, which currently doesn't exist. It seems unlikely to me that such an integration is going to be implemented (seeing that the two shops are competitors after all), and I also may be misunderstanding what you meant, but that's why I was asking for the source of the information.

The people who are supposed to be working on it would probably Steam employees if it's a Steam issue, right? I read about it on Steam (either the forums or twitter) and again it has NOTHING to do with GamersGate, so just drop it. I misunderstood his question (or maybe I didn't since the title of the thread is "Is there a way ON STEAM to put a game in your inventory") and I was therefor talking solely about the Steam inventory. So maybe I misunderstood him or he asked the question in the wrong forum, whichever though - it's not relevant to discuss what is happpening over at Steam.
