Medieval 2 Total War Gold Edition

Problems Installing Original Game

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

So I have no problem downloading this and it seems to go normally. It starts to install Medieval 2 Gold Edition but all it installs is the Kingdoms Expansion and then its finished. I tried to see if I did something wrong and uninstalled and re installed but its the same every time. I made sure that Gold means Medieval 2 AND Medieval 2 Kingdoms. Why am I only getting Kingdoms?

look in "C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War" getting only kingdoms should be impossible seeing as Medieval 2 is required to even install kingdoms.

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

EXACTLY!!! I tried that. Its not even there. Its SEGA/Medieval II Total War and then just kingdoms cd, mods folder, readme, and EULA. I don't understand this at all. It should install vanilla first but it isn't.

Uninstall the game, disable your antivirus, re-download, re-install, only re-activate your antivirus when install has finished.

Incomplete downloads or installs are usually the result of an overzealous antivirus software. GamersGate uses encryption techniques that are typical for some viruses (though the techniques themselves are not malicious, of course), so sometimes some files get flagged as potential threats, and then blocked/removed.

If you want to check whether you got the complete download, perhaps someone who has it as well can give you a list of files, or a hash code. Unfortunately I can't access my downloaded files right now.

also would be good to know what download size you had as well as that could also explain it and yes your anti virus could be the culprit here.

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

I have done all the above. I turned off antivirus, re downloaded/installed and still only get Kingdoms. With my antivirus on I got nothing. 12.99 GB was the download size I believe.

ok i see what is happening, there is no issue as you do have both games,it's just that kingdoms is added to the base game so will show up as kingdoms, you don't just have kingdoms and not the main game.

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

Ummm. So how do I access it? How do I play it?

By demondean posted 26th Jun 2012

just load the game and start the campaign

By demondean posted 26th Jun 2012

kingdoms adds the following to the main game campaign.

Four new campaigns - Britannia, Teutonic, Crusades, and New World
10 new units
13 new factions
9 new agents
50 new buildings
60+ new territories across four new maps
15 new multiplayer maps and scenarios
All-new 1v1 hotseat multiplayer campaign mode

Just load the game? I don't think you understand what I am saying... I can't find the game. I only have the Kingdoms expansion. When I try to load them it says, "The program can't start because mss32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I have tried that many times.

By demondean posted 26th Jun 2012

you do have the main game,it's a corrupted download you have,mss32.dll will have been deleted by your anti virus or other security,do make sure that you run in compatability mode as well if running on vista or 7 as it compatible upto xp.

By demondean posted 26th Jun 2012

your download will only show as kingdoms, you won't find a game as medieval 2 and kingdoms,it will only show as kingdoms.

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

So you suggest I uninstall everything again, turn off all my anti virus again, re download it, and try installing again? What is compatability mode?

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

SO I think I found compatablity mode for programs but it only has it listed as uninstall: medieval 2 america, uninstall medieval 2 Britannia, etc.

By demondean posted 26th Jun 2012

yes do delete your old download and install then redownload with anti virus disabled, compatability mode is used to try and force games for newer operating systems to run, right click on the short cut select properties then select compatability and then select xp

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

Ok. I am going to do as you say and see if it works the 4th time. Here we go again.

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

For the install it starts by saying this is the install wizard press next. Then there is the license agreement. The next page is selecting what you would like to install. The choices are of the kingdoms expansion and it takes 4.19 GB. Where is the original game and how come it doesn't show up first?

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

I am at the point where you select which Kingdoms to install. What do you suggest I do?

By AladdinsCarpet posted 26th Jun 2012

SO I found how to fix it. I had to go to User/downloads/gamersgatetemporaryfiles/917/m2tw/disk1/setup. Complicated stuff. However. Since you did spend time (however useless) trying to help. I will mark it as closed. Thanks for the effort :)
