Rating: 3.7 (12 votes cast)

Reckless Squad is a real-time strategy game where your only goal is to protect a convoy during its dangerous journey.

You have at your disposal many units with unique abilities and you must figure out how to best use them to face hordes of enemies in various situations across the world.

Sometimes you will find places to rest, to recruit new units, and to buy better equipment. Other times you will have to defeat - or escape from - terrible creatures.

Every journey is unique - the game adapts to your way of playing by helping you or by pushing you to your limits. However, the game will always ensure that you get the most enjoyable experience.

Key features:

  • Intense and strategic battles, use your troops and their capacities wisely to defend your convoy or defeat the bosses after an epic fight.
  • Every journey is unique: the game adapts itself to the way you play and the environments are created procedurally. You will never experience the same thing twice.
  • Fight endless hordes of monsters in the Arena and see for how long your strategies can keep you alive.
  • More than 40 achievements for you to unlock and 11 missions to complete.
  • Twelve classes of units for you to chose from. Ranging from the good old Soldier and Archer to the more exotics Black Mage and Samurai. Every class of unit have its own distinct (and somewhat twisted) personality. Most of them have secondary weapons with very different effects, allowing you to build complex strategies.
  • Travel across a fantasy universe filled with elves, werewolves, pirates and ninjas... amongst others. Discover various environments, from the forest to the mountains, passing by the desert. And it's always served with humor!

Reckless Squad review

It wanst so fun as previous reviews, is always the same to try to guard a convoy (after a few tryies it gets a little boring), you cant stop the convoy to plan nor anything. For me the Arena and the tutorials are the only way to enjoy the game.

Pretty fast-paced, so you should better check your reflexes before trying to take on this one!

Sweet arcadeish tactics, which somewhat reminded me of good ol' "Z". Grphics are pretty simple and animation is minimalistic, but it suits the gameplay well.

Reckless Squad is a modest strategy game. Here you will not see great graphics, but if you forget it, you can play a fun job. We can see how their creators put focus on replayability. It's a normal game, but a good price.

Reckless Squad review

Reckless Squad looks a bit old-fashioned at first. I must have been bored at the time to try the demo, after having seen the screenshots. The look of the tutorial didn't help either. However after that things turned around.

Graphics are the major point of criticism. Units look ok but could have used smoother animations. The environment is rather bleak, especially in the tutorial. It gets better during the actual game since there's more going on. Still, visuals are old-fashioned and the menu could use a bucket of polish.

Sound effects are good and you get the usual unit responses you'd expect in RTS-ish games. Music isn't bad either. It fits the always-under-pressure gameplay nicely.

Controls are intuitive and pretty much what you'd expect from a RTS game.

Gameplay is the point where this game shines and the reason I bought it. I was actually a bit surprised how smooth it worked. It's a charming little game with a somewhat innovative idea. Each game consists of a small campaign in which you protect your caravan. The setting and story changes from campaign to campaign. Since the caravan constantly keeps moving, you are always under pressure and you don't have time to get bored. I liked that; keeps you on your toes and there's no time wasted trying to artificially lengthen playtime. All action and no waiting.

I also liked the mix of RTS, RPG and the casual gameplay. There are enough different units, weapons, enemies and bosses to provide variety, strategy and replayability. Yet it's not so horribly involved that you have to learn 100s of stats. You jump into it, have some fun and then continue whatever you where doing.

Anyway, don't get fooled by the graphics, the gameplay makes up for that. It's an entertaining little game which provides fun for a few hours. Sure, it's no AAA title but considering the price it's a very nice game and well worth it.
