Mount & Blade Collection review

By d3spman posted 23rd March

Mount and Blade is probably one of the most unique and innovative games out there that brings something new to the table unlike the cliche genres with the same formula. It creates a fictional world based in medieval times where you are set with a back story you've created and let loose to influence what may ever happen during the course of the game. It has RPG elements as well as strategy and even a third person perspective of your character. You can be a knight gather a band of warriors from villages or become a mercenary to a King and aid him during his battles when warring with other factions or even ransack caravans and castles. Now everything may sound brilliant and fun but there are some drawbacks to Mount and Blade.

Mount and Blade does has dated graphics which may ruin the experience for some but not for most. I personally enjoy some good graphical detail in my games but I'll make the exception when it comes to Mount and Blade. Also, it can be a bit buggy from time to time such as when you draw your arrow on horse back and you turn to face your target too much on one side or the other you loose your targeting reticule and can't seem to regain control and end up loosing an arrow. There also lacks a multiplayer mode which would have been a great addition to the game. But there is so much good to this game it outweighs the bad.

Epic battles, the sound of swords and arrows landing a hit on armored flesh, the grand charge of cavalry at a single command given by you. It's thrilling for any medieval enthusiast to experience what Mount and Blade has to offer. Which draws my conclusion of Mount and Blade.

Mount&Blade series resemble game mechanics from real warfare for the strategy gameplay, and from chivalry for the third person combats. The depth of the strategy and managment part is impressive, you start just by being able to hire mercenaries and you grow by owning stores, towns, strongholds, and, eventually, becoming a king. The combat system is pretty immersive, even if not completely balanced, and the online play is enjoyable.

My personal favorite is warband, as it introduce some new and polished game mechanics which are reproduced in fire and sword, but the overall feeling is a bit more medieval and realistic.

This is great bundle, each game in this collection is worth of the price in the bundle (yes even the first one withou multiplayer. Go for it, if you want a "mounted soldier" experience. A shame it´s not steam activable, it´s a hard work using just the in game multiplayer to find your friends.

the mount & blade series is great ever game in this series has its good point but if you just want to play solo and save some money i would say get only war band but if you get all the games in the series there great mods all

The most known and played serie of "medieval warfare" at his best, even if warband is better than the others, the classic mount and blade is a very good old school RPG that will remind you of paper based games, with his universe and his quests

Meanwhile the multiplayer of "warband" and "with fire and sword" promise you hundred hours of epic battles, the gamplay is really demanding but once you master it you'll soon be a battle hardened warrior.

Raise your sword and fight !

Overall Mount & Blade is an innovative game that really has potential in becoming a great game, although the lack of any real narrative other than, kill armies and become the greatest really lets the game down. But the effective combat system although needing some tweaks to improve, with its uniqueness presents Mount & Blade to be a good game that gamers will enjoy due to it being a hybrid of 3 very successful game types, and the implementation of the 3 game types is successful.

This is an excellent set of games and well worth it for the price. If you've ever wanted to conquer a kingdom piece by piece while leading troops into battle personally, then this is the collection.

It may seem odd owning all iteration of M & B but each has its own unique aspects and more importantly unique mods.

The first for example has an excellent LOTR mod called The Last Days, which keeps me coming back even though I own all the others.

Warband adds some multiplayer and also tweaks the game well, then F & S gives you firearms to play with.

Overall an excellent purchase that I highly recommend.

Great collection of games well worth the price

I was hesitant to buy any of the mount & blade games until they came down in price, paying only $20 for the collection was a sweet deal as the series turned out to be pretty great. Combat is very personal and battles are endlessly fun, this is a good one to pick up at an unpassable price.

Although it can be a bit rough around the edges, Mount and Blade offers and experience that you cant get anywhere else. If you past its sub-par graphics you will have a blast!

Hours and hours of gameplay for such a low price is heaven, add mods to those hours and you can play for months.

This is my current favorite RPG/Strategy game. I heard about it in the past and finally decided to buy it Aug 2012. The gameplay is fun but direct melee combat is difficult to master. It has a feel of Medieval 2 TW but includes some interesting questing and political aspects. As you fight and win battles your fresh recruits gain experience and can be upgraded to better units and sometimes different gear. You also have companions you hire and level up and select their skills and equipment just like your main character.

The game has as an open world choose your own path play style. You could just make a small army and become a merchant caravan trading goods between the cities. Or you could make a large raiding party and burn and loot everything in your path. I think the primary end goal is to declare yourself a king and take over the entire realm. Prepare to play many fun hours forging your personal path to victory and addictive just one more quest moments.

The mount & blade collection is intense, the single player campaign will keep you going for hours but the multiplayer is the better part. With hundreds in one battle it's the most i've seen in a multiplayer game and is quite fun defending or attacking a castle with swords and bows or the old style guns in napoleonic wars, if you're up to fighting a massive group.. this game is A++ and highly recommended.

The M&B games are some of the best medieval sandbox RPG combat games on the market (though I guess it's not a huge field). All 3 of the games are excellent, and there are tons of great mods to help seal the deal.

This package is perfect for all M&B lovers and new players - you get everything together even first game for nostalgic sort of people. Add to this mix many excellent mods (you can download them from their official forums) and great multiplayer and you have epic game and experience.

Very good game. It's challenging and annoying, sometimes. With time, you'll learn how to fight and manage your troops. Politics become something that will let you stuck in the game. It could be better. I recommend this game. Gameplay is very good and you'll have hours of fun (sometimes you won't that's fair when you die).

It just has 1 negative point: Paradox!

If you like Total War: Medieval 2 or Skyrim. Imagine them combined into one. That is what you get when you play Mount & Blade, a really great game that combines combat strategy and diplomacy with hack and slash medieval combat. Really great game with difficulty settings that make it a challenge no matter how good you are.

Mount & Blade Collection review

Mount & Blade offers a very different approach than most games, as the focus is on mechanics and open world-gameplay, instead of only focusing on good graphics and offer mediocre gameplay. The vanilla version is good by itself, but the game truly shines when you try out different mods with different aims: you can fight great battles as a lord's vassal, you can trade yourself to riches or you can pillage and loot at your pleasure. It is all possible in one game, which means you never have to play the same game twice. Truly a game worth trying, and in the end, buying.

Three Mount & Blade games in one collection! What more do you need? Particularly when it's dirt cheap! Each game is worthy, even the original M & B, while superseeded by Warband, is needed for many mods that haven't been converted to the newer game. Warband being the definitive medieval combat simulator and Fire & Sword adding gunplay to the sword and bow action in the late Renaissance!

Great stuff!

This game is great. I love the sandbox aspect of it and the fighting. Fighting from horseback is fun, at first it takes a while to learn the mechanics of it but comes easily enough. Also there are great mods for these games this is a great package.

Mount & Blade Complete Review

The bundle of three superb Talworlds games is simply a must (especially with price -75% off). Warband being a polished version of original Mount & Blade offering a lot more depth and many features previously only seen in mods. WFaS is on the other hand set in different settings and after the flood of bugs after initial release has been finally improved to the point of being really enjoyable and surprisingly offers different style of campaign and combat within the same engine and similar game mechanics. And lastly the multiplayer, ultimate experience of real time medieval combat with dozens of players in a battles, sieges etc. What is there not to love? :-)

Mount & Blade Complete review

By etherealscream posted 28th July 2011

THe Mount&Blade games are excellent medieval combat games that mix in RPG elements in form of quests. The first game is included in this pack as it is advertised as the 'complete pack', but I'd just skip it and download Warband because it greatly improves on the original game by adding more features, including marriage and multiplayer. Mount&Blade: With Fire and Sword is essentially just Mount&Blade Warband in a different setting. It feels far more difficult game for a new player as there are firearms that deal much damage and using one is rather tricky due to the long reload times of the weapon. With Fire and Sword also comes with multiplayer. There is a great modding community for the titles that enchance various parts of the game or even add new ones. At this price, the complete pack is a must buy!
