Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Collection review

By UnitedOnez posted 10th May

The world of Amalur is very colorful and vibrant but also has a very dark path heading it's way with the invasion underway. It plays as a mix of Fable and a story scheme similar to one of Mass effect or never winter nights in my opinion, combat wise it is great to see animations are smooth and fluid you are encouraged to evade and learn enemy attack patterns, if you don't and are playing higher difficulty levels you will get rofl stomped by the lowest of foe. The world is HUGE, if you actually bother reading the lore and do the side quests you can surely get 25-30 hours on this game.

The story is built well, the combat after reaching higher levels becomes rinse and repeat mostly but that is almost always the case in any game once you are so late game, its nearly impossible to die unless you are just not trying to live on purpose. Really worth the buy including the DLC.

From what I've played of Amalur, it has the essence of the Fable series, and plays very similarly in many aspects. The combat system is manageable, but it's obvious aspects were taken from a few sources, making it a jack of all trades and a master of none. The skill trees, loot and inventory systems, and map are pretty standard, yet easy to navigate. This is a plus considering many other genre competitors fumbled here. The storyline is also step in different directions compared to many genre counterparts; so that's refreshing. Overall, I have enjoyed my time playing Amalur and want to see what's next.

If you've played Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Dragon Age 1 & 2, and the Fable series you should pick this up, especially with the added DLC.

The game itself is fun for the most part but once you get past about 10 or so hours into the game, you have a sense of wanting more. Once you get your build and start doing stuff, you reach a point where it takes hours before you see something new. I lost interest in this game from time to time but doesn't mean that this game isn't awesome. It is a MMO done for the single user so if you are a person who plays MMOs but want to have the personal experience, this game is for you. If you don't have patience for long winded quests and walking, then try something else.

As far as the potential of the game: I like it a lot. I like the graphics (weapons, monsters, etc.) but I have some issues: my keyboard is getting wonky from me hitting it and I'm on a second mouse because I destroyed my other one. The combat in this game is broken. The panning feature puts me inside walls, torches, underground and other odd places. Pressing the mouse to activate a spell 80% of the time only casts the spell once when it's supposed to cast it three times in a row, leaving me standing there while monsters play tennis with my body. I get phantom treasure in monster corpses and items that won't leave my inventory no matter what I do to them. If these things could be fixed I'd have a lower blood pressure.

A package with very good value. The base game is great and the two DLCs are also quite recommandable. A good choice for aRPG fans and open world RPG fans. A side note, while this package occasionally going to 70% off, the DLCs rarely get deep discount separately. This package is still a good choice even you already have the base game.

An excellent game with a deep and engaging story! It has the feel of a grand adventure while still providing numerous side quests. If you loved Dragon Age or Skyrim you will love this game!

Great graphics, smooth game play, compelling story. What more can you ask for. Too bad this came out along side Skyrim or I'm sure it would have won RPG of the year. A definite must buy for any fan of the genre.

This is a refreshing and brilliant RPG. The artwork, graphics, sound, story, item management, loot, and questing are all top-notch. The action is smooth and natural and its an excellent blend of action and combat mixed with story-telling and exploration.

You will be sucked in from the first familiarization sequences and will not want to let go. NPCs are varied and well-rounded. The different areas are unique and offer much to be found and experienced.

Good combat, fun questing.

By rebelzeppelin posted 11th December 2012

First off, the game is pretty! The story is ho hum, it bankrupt a company, and cost hundreds of people their jobs. Even then, the questing is fun if you're used to MMOs and the combat is really good. Give it a shot if you like lite-RPGs.

KoA its an action RPG. Good and polished controls, nice story, and repetitive sidequests. Graphics are a little better on pc than the 360. Its lengthy and a good time waster. Try it.

Great game with metric s#@& tonne's of: loot, character progression options, quests. It's pretty, the sounds that fill your ears are ample, it plays smoothly. Only qualm I really have is that the storytelling isn't as good as expected being that R.A. Salvatore had the lead in that department and creates excellent stories. The land is rich though, and there is back story if you want to dig and listen to all the dialog.

This game is amazing, and by far the best open world RPG of 2011. The art style is s vibrant and fluid it just feels like the concept art splashes everywhere. The gameplay is easy enough to understand, and there is plenty to keep you going for many hours to come. I'm about 20 hours in, and I won't & can't stop. A+

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Collection review

The Kingdoms of Amalur base game is well worth this price alone, but the added DLC is like icing on a cake. I'm only four hours in to playing the main campaign, but this is quickly becoming one of my favourite modern RPGs. The story is captivating, the gameplay is fairly straight-forward and quick-to-learn, but I have to say that the character-design and graphics are extremely top notch.

It's just a sad thing that the development studio got shut down, because I would have loved to see even more.
