Gothic III Gold Edition review

AFter playing the fourth one in the series, Arcania, I had to go back and play this one. It has a slow start, but then progresses into one of the best rpgs of this type. I would suggest this title to anyone who likes The Elder Scrolls games or The Witcher, etc.

Gothic III Gold Edition review

The Gothic serie is one of my favourite game. It offers lots of missions, dialogues, monsters, characters. The world wich you evolve in is huge with mountains, plains, paths, etc. The design is very good and the game is easy to learn. Fights are excitings. There are hundreds of objects to collect like treasures and plants. The scenario allows a lot of freedom, so you can if you want just go on your own and explore the world. The way to gain experience and develop your character is one of the best in that kind or games. Alchemy is very interesting to develop. I really hope there will be a Gothic V!

Gothic III Gold Edition review

I played gothic 3 with community patch 1.74 which fixed most serious problems of this game so the performance issues and bugs did not bother me much. Despite the flaws, gothic 3 is truly an immersive open world RPG. The exploration, unlike in Oblivion, is actually fun, and it's interesting to loot some surprising treasures after beating tough foes. The faction setting in this game is utterly good. You can side with different factions and ends up with different endings. The gameplay is also very non-linear. In many cases you can just talk your way out or you can smash them to death. Though the story in gothic 3 is terrible, it's not that bad considering that you have a massive world to explore. The graphics is still ok in today's standard and you pretty much are able to max its setting in mid-range PC nowadays. I personally think Gothic 3 is The elder scrolls IV: Oblivion should have been. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Morrowind. The new 1.75 community patch is out days ago, check out that too.

A great rpg classic

This is a quite impressive game in many ways. Although it's surely aging, the modding community has made a great effort in improving it and I had a real good time replaying it with the latest overhaul. The sounds and animations are probably its weaker spots, but the world, ambientation and quests make you forget about the limitations. There is certainly a good story there, and you can affect it in many ways, leaving you many options in your alingment and compromise with various factions and npcs. The game concept and plot achieve a brilliant balance between storyline and freedom of action, which is often hard to find in other rpgs.
