SEND VAMPIRES AND DEMONS TO BULLET HELL!

The eXceed Collections brings together all three installments of one of the biggest and best known series of Japanese indie schmups. Battle the forces of evil, as human, vampire AND Dragon Clan!

Includes:

eXceed – Gun Bullet Children

Humanity is at war against vampires and deviants. Mankind's last line of defense is a group of children trained to wield powerful magic that can rival the demonic hordes, but at the cost of most of their lifespan. Likened to bullets of a gun, they are known as the ‘Gun Bullet Children’.

The time is NOW! A vampire invasion force has been detected in the airspace above Tokyo Portal 5. Preliminary reports indicate over 500 vampires and accompanying Killings Dolls with reinforcing hordes of deviant humans. The first line of defenses has been obliterated and the Gun Bullet Children are scrambled to launch a counter-assault and stop the invasion.

Key Features

  • 3 playable characters with individual storylines
  • 5 stages of bullet hell and boss battles
  • Slowdown feature for precise maneuvering
  • Graze system that will test your nerve and charge your super-weapon
  • Original Japanese import version with English language manual
  • Exclusive to The eXceed Collection

eXceed 2nd – Vampire REX

The human powers-that-be called for the purification of mankind and the eradication of vampires and ‘deviants bloodlines’ - those born of a mix of human and vampire. And so began massive purges of the deviants that were reminiscent of the “witch hunts” of centuries earlier. Leading the genocide was the exorcist corps the “Gun Bullet Children”.
As the overwhelmingly large human armies began to obliterate every vampire and deviant community across the world, the opposing deviant armies sought to gather allies and rally back.  Ria File is a half-human, half-vampire girl fighting on the side of the deviants as they embark upon a turnaround strategy, the “Siege on the Holy Land’. Their plan: to lay siege upon the humans’ “Holy Land” and to destroy the Holy Lady Anhel who was the source of the human military power. This is a battle in which defeat is an option for neither army.

Featuring an addictive dual-polarity gameplay system, this amazing vertical shmup is sure to please any shooter fan. The polarity and color of your character can be changed to absorb enemy bullets of the same polarity while charging the special weapon in the process and doing double damage to enemies of the opposite polarity. Every bullet absorbed charges your special weapon for total destruction. With awesome music, beautiful art, and challenging stages, this is the game that put the eXceed series on the map and has everything you would want from a shmup.

Key Features:

  • Dual-polarity gameplay system
  • 8 frenetic stages
  • Dynamic difficult balancing, depending on the player’s skill
  • Chain bonus scoring system
  • Cutscene-driven story-telling

The eXceed Collection review

By ric1987 posted 2nd September 2012

The first game in this trilogy isn't near as good as the other two but getting 2 and 3 would cost 12 dollars, so all three for 10 bucks is a good deal. These aren't the best bullet hell shooters out there and Gundemonium Collection is a bit more fun but if you've already played that then this is the next best thing for bullet hell on PC(in the US at least). The games can get very challenging and seem impossible at first but all it takes is memorization and you'll be dodging thousands of bullets in no time. The art style stands out from most shmups also. The three games in one is definitely recommend for only $3.33 each.

A collection of three really fun bullet hell shooters. I like the art style, the challenging gameplay, and the responsive controls. it's three really solid bullet hell games for only 10 dollars. I will say that the story is all but pointless, and I only gave it four stars because it's more of a niche genre game.

If you like STG (shooting game) the this collection it's for you. The 3 games are hard and each one is diferent.

The first one is more slow paced but with a lot of bullets on-screen. All the bullets only have one color and the graphics are outdated, so I think this is the weakest one of the three. Also the game's source code was lost so we get the game in its original japanese.

The second one (vampire rex) looks like an ikaruga clone, but has its own charm. The main gameplay adition is the two collored bullets ones are black and the others are white, your character can switch between those colors so she can absorb the bullets with the same color as her. Also the game is more fast paced and changes the dificult during the stage according to how well or how bad you are playing.

The third one (Jade penetrate black) returns to basic STGs mechanics, were every enemy bullet kills you, but now you have a special attack and the normal bomb. The graphics of this one are great the same with the bullet patterns.

The collection pretty much worths its price. But be warned that if you are not a fan of the genre, you are gonna have a hard time because the difficulty of the three games is far far above the difficulty of the average game nowadays.

Definitely a great deal,if you're looking for a definitive bullet hell game that will make you rage for every slightest mistake you make, look no more! Not for the easily deterred, it takes a lot of determination. Warning: the first game is completely in Japanese, and I did not see the English manual as promised in the description, although I may have missed it.
