Empire & Napoleon Total War™ - Game of the Year Edition review

By arcade47 posted 31st December 2012

Absolutely must have pack for Total War fans or newcomers of series. 2 games about Napoleonic era, dawn of powder and cannon. Moreover, it comes with all DLCs too, increase your play-time. However, for hard-core fan, you can't receive 10th Hussar unit (Great Britain) aka Free Community DLC for Napoleon TW because the Sega Pass service has been shut down. Forget it, it is too little and enjoy ones of the best RTS games out there.

This is a fantastic deal. You get two excellent games, with all of their DLC, all in one tidy package. Both sets of serial keys redeem on Steam, and this makes it easy to download and install everything. These two games add guns to the Total War universe, and while there are a few AI and balance issues here and there, these additions are mostly handled quite well. I tend to skip most of the battles and focus on the strategic campaigns, but both are there to be played and both are well-done. The graphics in these games are also impressive, and they run pretty well on a lower end system if you turn down the graphical settings.

If you're a fan of the Total War series and don't own these games, or if you're looking to get into the Total War series, I can very highly recommend this bundle.

Empire & Napoleon Total War™ - Game of the Year Edition review

Empire and Napoleon Total War combine major campaign's and very well done tactical battles. This edition throws in a lot of the extra downloadable content which makes it the ideal version to buy. Battles are interesting if a bit hard to command and the campaign's are a lot of fun, though the game is much more military focused then some other Grand Strategy games. Napoleon features a greater reliance on artillery and a campaign in which you can play as Prussia, England, Austria, or Russia and see if you can hold back Napoleon and the French. Also included is the Peninsula Campaign which sees the Spanish and British fight the French for control of Spain. If you want to buy Empire or Napoleon, this is the version you should buy. One word of warning, the combination of these two games takes over 20G of space on a hard drives and may take days to download.

Empire & Napoleon Total War™ - Game of the Year Edition review

This game is great. It combines 2 games that are good in themselves. There was a lot of talk about Empire being a problem child, and it was, but I think that with the new patches and added stability they gave that it is very much worth playing. Napoleon I feel is a slightly different take on the total war series, and I think the developers/creators did a good job working with it. The game play is very intensive and engaging, and the graphics I find are superb. I also cannot say how much I love having the ability to fight naval battles. The water detail they were able to come up with is amazing. I would highly recommend these games to anyone looking for a good strategy game.

I stayed away from Empire: Total War because of early bug issues and bad reviews. I got the Gold Edition, which fixed a lot of the previous problems and it is a really fun game.

There are a lot of fun aspects of this game, the first is you actually get to fight navel battles. Seeing a line of ships on beautifully-designed water is quite impressive, as is the damage graphics after you fire a broadside into an enemy ship. The downside of the navel battles is that the learning curve is incredibly steep. Still haven't quite figured this part out yet.

Another aspect is the Independence Game, where you lead forces, started with Jamestown and finishing with the Revolution. Once you win the Revolution, you can go back and play the world campaign as the newly independent U.S. This series is fun, because its one of the few games where you can fight the French and Indian War and playing as the new United States makes it really interesting in a world of much stronger powers.

A great addition to the total war series. And in the game of the year edition you get the Empire which features a world spanning campaign and Napalion which is focused on Europa. The first lets you enjoy building a world spanning empire while the latter offers better combat and a intense struggle for Europa.

A must have for all RTS lovers

There is a little missunderstanding in description - you MUST install this game via Steam. Game has 2 levels - strategic and tactic. First is turn-based - on campaign map with many new options (compare to older CA titles) and second is real-time - on battle map.

Strategic part of game is now really great - thanks of new philosophy of managing provinces and technology research, whats better the map looks awesome - just check screenshots!

Battlefield (tactical part of game) is also better then before - soldiers as alive marching through wheat field and able to hide behind the fence... Whats to want more from? Maybe AI improvements? But there is one important thing this game doesn`t have. A Soul.

Shogun, Rome, Medieval they all have it.

Anyway the price is good, graphic is awesome, music is propper and thats all you need for many hours of fun.

These games are well worth a look by themselves and with both in one pack this is a no brainer.

Its classic Total war stuff, this time set in the times of colonization and gunpowder weapons. Empire is the largest of the two in scope with America, Europe and India as areas available to conquer with additional trading stations all over the world. Empire does however suffer from some technical issues that damages the score a bit. Its a nasty AI loop bug that is most prominent in siege battles. napoleon on the other hand is a much more refined product but odesnt offer quite the same scope. It´s instead set up of smaller campaigns to follow the great commanders rise and fall. All in all its an awesome package and should not be missed by any fans of the series

The package is a great deal, worth more than 4 stars! But the games themselves get 4 stars.

I've played every game in the Total War series since Rome Total War. Both games hold up pretty well against their predecessors (and even Shogun 2) - and if you haven't experienced a Total War battle without guns, it's a lot of fun. Empire might be the most complicated game in the Total War series, lots of territory/empire management, complex trading system, lots of states (giving more importance to diplomacy), and cool battles. I just really don't like the naval battle system though. As well, the game just gets too easy once you have taken 10-15 provinces.

Empire is bad, and Napoleon is good game. Both are woth in the same package as is cheaper to buy them togheter than separated. There is huge modding community so install some good mods to unlock full potential of both games.

The Game of the Year edition of Napoleon Total was offers several features that make this game a great value. For example , you have all the added content available. Of course if you have the original it is not enough to warrant getting this one as well. I love this era because the battles are more challenging with firearms. I also like to watch the cavalry charging lines after lines of infantry. Very good game.

A very good combination of 2 wonderful games.

They're what every Total War should be: good looking, with a lot of different units, terrains and tactics so the player can combine different strategies in order to defeat his enemy.

A must buy

Empire & Napoleon Total War™ Bundle - OR - How to lose a month, easy

By KaintukeeBob posted 29th May 2012

This bundle includes two Total War games, Empire: Total War and Napoleon: Total War, both redeemed on Steam, and both including all currently-released (as of Spring 2012) DLC.

In short, each game alone is a fun time, with engaging gameplay, good graphics, and the ability to make hours disappear.

Combine them? Prepare to lose a month or so. Buy this bundle. You won't regret it (unless you need to hold down a job or go to classes or something silly like that).

Both games are worth buying: this delivers in a pack. This gives you hundreds of hours of gameplay, and the best of all, in my opinion, is that it includes all the DLC with also saves you a lot. Thumbs up!!
