Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

There's plenty of gameplay here for your money. Combat is turn-based and success depends on the tactics you employ. Furthermore, each game can easily be played multiple times where your decisions will have serious implications on the story and characters. I can't recommend these games highly enough. If you do purchase, be sure to search out the increased resolution/widescreen mods available.

This is an absolute must buy collection which is full of classics that any D&D fan must have. There is nothing wrong with any of these games and they will provide you with months of intense play. If you haven't tried these you owe it to yourself and you family to pick this collection up.

This anthology is worth buying just for the Baldur's Gate series alone! It's cheap: buy it, play it, and enjoy the dated (but still lovely) graphics and engrossing plot lines!

worth every cent!

i cant stress enough how important this collection of games is to the rpg genre, it includes some of the finest crafted rpg's ever made! sure it involves a bit of reading, thats how we used to get our immersion back before 3d worlds were made. simply amazing stories with deep gameplay elements. i dont think anyone can really call themselves a rpg fan if they havent played these games.

When someone says computer RPGs the games in this bundle instantly comes in mind. Baldur's Gate series is possibly the best RPG ever released though for some it's Planescape Torment. Icewind Dales being more action oriented however do not lack behind and the computer version of one of the very first P&P DnD adventures - Temple of Elemental Evil - is pretty good as well. I'll make it simple for you - if you are at least mildly interested in RPGs, you *must* have this.

Enjoyable, with several different games, all of them high quality. Even Temple of Elemental Evil, the lowest rated game, is enjoyable, although the other games simply blow it away. A must buy for any fan of RPGs or just someone looking for a collection of entertaining games to play.

Beware though, the learning curve for some of the games can be a bit steep, but I think that it is worth it in the end.

This bundle contains many games and almost everyone is a pearl of CRPGs.

If you liked pen-and-paper RPGs, you may try Baldur's Gate series - computer will be Dungeon Master for you.

If you like great storyline and deep immersion - try Planescape: Torment. As one of Russian journalists stated, "PS:T is a philosophical treatise that in some mysterious way became a computer game instead of book". Each line of dialogues will keep your attention from the beginning to the very end.

If you like some tactics - try Icewind Dale series - these are games oriented on battle with many monsters using AD&D 3ed rules.

Another great plus of this purchase is you get many games with decent discount. You won't get these games that cheap if you'll buy them one-buy-one. And these titles are every CRPG fan should have in his or her collection.

Great old turn-based games with rich stories, and in my estimation these old Bioware Infinity engine titles are the premiere multiplayer RPGs, even today. I regularly go back to play these with friends, especially the Icewind Dale series, which cut down on the story and dialogue options to deliver a great, old-school tabletop party experience. For hardcore and casual fans alike, these games are true gems. With all the expansions packed in and Planescape Torment on top of that, the Anthology is well worth the price.

This collection is a fantastic product that must not be overlooked. These games are all excellent in their own rights and this anthology brings them all together in a low-priced package. The fact that they come DRM-free sweetens the deal. Although these games may be old and dated, they stand the test of time and remain fantastic games. Not a single weak title can be found here. I would recommend anyone to get this to experience these fantastic adventures, and at this price you should buy a copy for one of your buddies as well!

Wow. Propably the best thing and usually best deal on gamers gate.

Planescape torment is brilliant and used to be hard to get.

Baldurs gate II is the other recommendation but playing planescape should be in the curiculum for gaming its the prime example of good writing in games. Some journalists even went as far to say its the only exapmle of good game writing.

The Icewinddale series is to combat heavy for my taste and all the characters are made by yourself.

One problem i have with this particular bundle is that you cantz choose what game in the pack you want to download.

No matter what game you want to play you have to download a 10 gb file.

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

By Cheese7 posted 17th March 2012

Great classics with amazing story. Not so good for the combat, however, which generally tends to be a bit repetitive, unchallenging and broken. The characters and story are what makes these games really shine. The pack is also great value, at least 200+ hours of gameplay in this pack for a relatively low price.

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

By DrShotgunMD posted 16th March 2012

A collection of the finest games you may ever play. Memorable for multiple reasons. Story, world, and of course the mechanics. The combat and rules of the game are taken from 2nd edition advanced dungeons and dragons. Meaning any combat will surely be a challenge. When i first played this as a kid the rules flew over my head and made each fight a battle as much for survival as it was to complete the game. It is a blend of strategy and role playing that is not seen today. Excellent customization, deep story, amazing combat, and the Forgotten realms setting(by far the majority of games in this pack are set there) is a brilliant world. While they don't look like much given how graphics have progressed mod support is still out there for a few of these and it is still worth the purchase.

A collection of the greatest cRPGs ever made.

Have aged quite considerably in terms of visual quality, but in many cases, easily keeps up with the modern "masterpieces" on a bad day, and blows them clean out of the water on a good one.

Combined play-time should be close to 500+ hours.

Outstanding writing and style of the Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment alone make the pack worth it. IWD and ToEE are more hack-and-slash, but still offer a lot of enjoyment if you can look past the aged visuals.

These games are the memory of many a children from the 90's. The best classic RPG's around and they still hold up well to this day! When someone tells me they have not yet played baulders gate or planescape torment I am aghast and tell them to rectify that as soon as possible. These games still hold up to this day and I recommend them to any one who enjoys RPG's.

Not much I can add that hasn't been said already. BG 1&2 are epic and still relevant to the genre. I recently wanted to install BG2 but my disc 2 is scratched, I was going to just torrent a copy (not illegal as I own it) but for this price why not just get a digital copy? Planescape Torment is the best game I have ever played period. I would have paid this price for it alone. Never actually played ID 1 or 2 and I hadn't heard of ToEE until a year or so ago so essentially an awesome bonus!

These are the classics. This is what actual RPG's are made of. Planescape Torment has to be one of the best RPG's of all time. If you can get this bundle on sale, do yourself the favor.

Rich in story although the graphics are really dated by today's standards. They are long too so don't expect to plow through them.

Absolutely the best collection of classic cRPG you can get! Great bargain, since my discs have seen better times, now I can have all games at once, without worrying of course about scratching them or even losing them.

For begginers, it's a good deal, since you have all classic cRPGs in one package, and the price is tempting too, just click and buy! A must have for all D&D fans!

Ahh, the good old games… RPGs as they should be. Baldur's Gate, Planetscape torment, Temple of Evil…. These games are magnificent even today. Forget about the graphic and the art and the animations, modern games are not even RPGs anymore. We want incredible stories, consequences, interesting battles that are not just a 'click-fest'. Buy it, but it, buy it. If you played all these games already as I did, play them again. If you did not, what are you waiting for?

This is one of the few ways of electronically purchasing Planescape Torment these days, for that reason alone you should consider getting it. It features one of the most interesting settings ever created. The quests have a number of different solutions to them and the companions you meet are complex and intriguing characters.

Also it contains the epic (and extremely time consuming) Baldur's Gate series, an absolute D&D classic. The other titles in the package are more aimed towards D&D enthusiasts but as all of the complex rules are well hidden you can enjoy them without problems even if you have no idea about the rules.

This collection is fantastic value for the money. These games are all classics for a reason. Captivating storylines, great dialogue, and gameplay that frankly you just can't find anymore. I've already played half the games in this collection and own them on CD, but it's worth it to have them all in one nice download package. With mods, they can be made to work with modern widescreen resolutions.

These games are some of my classic RPG favorites. Full of depth and great stories, engaging NPC's. I highly recommend this Collection to anyone who love's D&D or even RPGs that don't end over night. The only thing that could have made this classic pack any better would have been the addition of Neverwinter Nights.

Easily one of the best selection of crpg in the world. If the games is not enough for you, there is mod support for Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale series to extend the game play. I think this will packed 500+ hours of combined game time. If you have play this before, buy again from here the drm free version and re-live the adventure once again. If you have never play any of the titles before, even more reason to check this out especially at this bargained price.

Actually worth it just so I don't have to keep track of the many, many discs I have hidden around the house for these games.

My favourite of these is Icewindale 2 - scraping past each fight, using each and every usable item, is the most fun I've had with a turn based game.

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

This grouping is one of the best collections ever. There is a black sheep in ToEE, but even it is pretty good. Icewind Dale was a good series in the hack n slash vein of RPGs. These 3 games are very good, but not the highlight of this collection. The Baldur's Gate series is one of the best ever created. Immersive, fun, memorable characters, it has it all. Minsk and Boo....oman, probably tied for the best companions in an RPG. In almost any other grouping, BG I and II would be the highlight...the best of the groupings with no doubt. In this one though, it will have to take a backseat to the game that I honestly believe is the greatest RPG of all time, Planescape: Torment. The best story ever in a computer game, IMO. The best companion in Morte. All of your actions had consequences. In a word, Planescape is perfect. For those that havent played the game, i can honestly say that im jealous. You can only get that feeling once...enjoy.

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 are two of the best CRPGs ever written and produced. The backdrop is the rich world of Faerun of the Forgotten Realms. Anyone who read the Time of Troubles trilogy would be interested in this setting as it's a continuation of that story to some degree with regards to the fallen evil gods. It's a standard AD&D 2.5 rules affair with a rich story, beautiful settings and plenty of side quests to compliment the main storyline.

The Icewind Dale games are built with the same design philosophy that BG and BG2 were and use similar engines. The stories aren't as rich nor is the lore as rich as the BG series. That being said, the games are still engaging and if you are looking for a dungeon crawl meets story of good vs. evil, they aren't a bad use of gaming hours.

Planescape: Torment is another gem in it's own right. Designed with a different perspective in mind, the alternate universe of Planescape is explored which is very rich, fairly unusual and foreign to those expecting the standard elven/dwarven fantasy fare and a bit "darker" as far as content and story goes. It was one of those games that were vastly underappreciated at launch and got lost in the shuffle but it easily one of the best games if its era.

TOEE could have been a good game at release but was marred by significant show stopper bugs. Eventually the developer abandoned any additional fixes leaving parts of the game unplayable. The community stepped up, however, and released a number of "community patches" that fixed the glaring issues left behind and added some minor content to the game as well. It's not a bad game but it's not a great game either. Given that it comes with 3 of the best CRPGs ever, however, it's worth an install and at least giving it a fair shot of playtime.

The games may be old now but these are some of the finest PC RPGs made. I've yet to see if the high-resolution tweaks work on the Gamersgate version of these games, but I would recommend trying.

Simply a 5/5 star package for the Baldurs Gate saga and Planescape Torment alone. Icewind Dale is the weaker-brother of these games focusing almost exclusively on combat. Temple of Elemental Evil was enjoyable but a couple notches below Baldur's Gate & Torment. Go for the eyes, Boo...

A Collection destined to revive the passion of the D&D classics, from the first module written for the pen and paper version (The Temple of elemental Evil) to the last isometric game of the saga (Baldur's Gate II)

All the games include complex storylines with multiple possible endings based on your decissions and alignment. The sidquests included in each game ensure hundreds of gameplay hours.

Each story is unique and located on a different portion of the D&D multiverse, and some of them are deemed as the best stories ever written for a roleplaying game.

This is definitely a must have for any D&D fan.

The best set of the best RPG games ever made all in one collection. Even if you think you may not be an RPG fan I think everyone should try these out as the storytelling is great. The game engine in most games is the Bioware Infinity engine which even at the time was not cutting edge but the quality of the games has, and always will make that a lesser issue. The 'Tolkien' of RPG games here and as such you have some epic content if you're prepared to put a little time in to get absorbed.

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection review

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology 6 great game, plus the expansion packs. What more can I say? A lot? Okay? Let's start with Baldur's gate, a great real time DnD game. You make a character how you want and go on an epic quest. This doesn't sound like much but the amount of small freedoms you have is something modern game lack. Do you rob from the inn, can you without being caught? Or are you honest and pay for everything thing. Modern games just let you pick houses clean right in front of the NPCs. Here you can't. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn continues Baldur gate even allowing you to import your character. It's also one of the first RPG I can recall where your choices impact the game, (romances, allies, etc, etc...), this is another classic and some say the best the bioware DnD games. Icewind Dale is much another DnD game like Baldur gate but adds more freedom, and bigger battles. Icewind Dale II unlike the others I mentioned is based on DnD3 rules while the others are ADnD2 sometimes with some DnD3 thrown in. If you like RPGs you will like this, simple. Planescape: Torment you are an immoral who has forgotten his name and life, you travel across the various planes of reality searching for the answers. Another great but not much talked about game. The Temple of Elemental Evil is newer than the other and thus looks it, it seems much shorter to me than the others but that's just me. The Temple of Elemental Evil, you make a party, and explore, wait for it, The Temple of Elemental Evil. There is a hub town to do side quests and you can even get married in the game. This game isn't the reason to buy the pack but is a nice addition. All and all, you can't go wrong with this pack. 6 great RPGs, low price, you can't ask for more.

There's a lot to be enjoyed in this pack. I've never played the Icewind Dale series, but I imagine they offer the same level of depth and storytelling that the other games in this pack give you. If you're looking for an old school style RPG with a lot of character story and narrative then this pack is right up your alley. The only reason I give 4 stars is because at this point the UI is pretty dated. Gameplay, story, character design are all top notch though

I'm a fairly new gamer and didn't have a computer to play games on when these titles came out the first time... I'm so excited that I can play them now and understand why some people still think that they're the best RPGs out there.

For someone who has experienced them before, here's a fantastic way to get them all again and relive the nostalgic experience all over again.
