Binary Domain Collection review

By WindAbx posted 23rd April

I submitted a review for the original Binary Domain game on it's own, a game I would definitely recommend as it's one of a kind for the PC. If you're going to buy it, get this version instead. You get the Dan Marshall DLC and also the Multiplayer pack. There is a small and very helpful community still playing the Multiplayer so it's for sure worth trying out. Makes a change from the usual CoD and Battlefield online experience so give it a go and I'm sure you'll be hooked!

Deserves far better than its 68 Metacritic score

By Dagon123 posted 22nd March

Having just finished the game, I have to say that right off the bat I think the PC metacritic score is far below average, and the port itself is actually really well.

Visuals: The Visuals are actually really well done for what feels like a budget title (Its cinematography almost reminds me of God Hand), You can almost tell which characters are important by how many polygons they have in their faces overall very well done.

Audio/Soundtrack: The soundtrack is pretty lacking not in that it's bad, so much as their isn't a whole lot of it, but when it does pop up, it sets the mood nicely.

Plot: So without giving away any spoilers, the game is set against a near future world devastated by flooding, the one economy to thrive was robotics, as rebuilding was vital to survival. You are whats known as a Rust Crew, ex Military from the worlds elite military ops put together to eliminate targets related to Robotics.

Needless to say, any story is carried by its characters, and these characters definetely pull the job off. The voice acting is supurb, and in a first from almost any game I've ever played, 3 unique Voice acting companies dubbed each part. The US dubbed the Americans, the UK dubbed the English, and the Japanese (In Japanese of course) did them.A lot of work really went into the authenticity of the voices.

All in all, for the deal I got, I can't give this anything other then a 5. I think had this game had a higher budget, it could have not only been it's own franchise with the story it had, but been a buzz name in the AAA market for games.

Binary Domain Collection review

This cover based third person shooter with RPG elements is a hidden gem. You play as a supersoldier part of an elite team to take out a rampant robot corporation and its robot army. The setting is a futuristic Tokyo, and robot parts fly off in detail when you blow the enemy to pieces. You can shoot at the head which causes robots to shoot each other, or shoot at the arms and legs to make them drop their weapons or hinder their movement. The graphics are incredibly decent especially compared to some contemporary releases I shall not name which have terrible pixellated texturing. Prepare for a 10+ hour campaign with nice cinematic cutscenes and real time events, and epic boss battles. The RPG element is buying upgrades for you and your squad that increase weapon damage, rate of fire, etc, and also upgrades for improving health, defense, reload time and so on. The game has multiple endings that depends on you building trust with your squad mate. Trust is influenced by an in game dialog system, and that comes with an optional voice recognition system which works with a mic. Also, headshots and multiple kills with earn more trust, friendly fire will decrease it. Sometimes the squadmates get in your line of fire which is annoying but it is apparent only in harder modes when positioning is critical - squad commands such as "retreat" "cover me" or "hold" usually solve this problem. Unfortunately the multiplayer is somewhat dead and has no dedicated server option. Overall this is one of the more intelligent games I have played in a long while.
