Bob Came in Pieces review

By EdDebevic posted 27th Nov 2011

This is a perfect game for a youngster (my boy loves it), and is priced right for what it is. The goal is to help "Bob" find all of the pieces of his rocket after he crashes into a planet while on his way to work. The player progresses through several levels and finds spaceship components (engines and traction beams) that can be used to work through subsequent levels of the game. In terms of content it's totally benign and is suitable for young children. There are also additional stand-alone puzzles that can be downloaded from the developer's website.

The graphics are well done (particularly the lighting) and won't tax a low-end system. As the other review points out, the rocket physics are the fun part of this game. With too much thrust or a unbalanced motor configuration you can wind up like a turtle flipped on its backside (in which case you can gracefully recover by pressing on the "Enter" key). Too little thrust and you go nowhere.

All in all, the perfect game to play with your young son or daughter on a rainy day. Kids 10 and under will love it, and in my opinion it's a good value for the money.

Bob Came in Pieces review

Bob Came in Pieces is a puzzler, no question about it. I bought it when it was cheap because the visuals and the physics enthralled me, but realized quickly that the game looks a lot better than it plays.

I'm not saying it's a bad game, because it is decent at what it does. I felt a resemblance to Trine while I played it, but that's probably because Trine is the only other physics puzzler I've played.

As I already said the visuals are nice, the audio is pretty decent and the gameplay is mediocre, the few interesting elements that are worth pointing out, are of course the physics and the ship-building system.

The physics work pretty well and work together nicely with the shipbuilding, although switching where you want your thrusters every few minutes can get frustrating.

All in all I think if you enjoy puzzlers this is a game you should look into, and for the 3 euro I paid for it it was definitely worth it.
