FEATURES

X³: REUNION continues to lead the way in offering players the ultimate open ended game play experience, backed by an addictive storyline and intense combat/trading action. Utilising the 'X³ Reality' engine, X³ pushes the graphical boundary to movie quality in-game graphics. TRADE in a new economy, dynamically reactive in pricing relative to supply and demand. FIGHT individual dog fights or command full-scale fleets against massive enemy armadas. Budding trade entrepreneurs can BUILD interconnecting factories to create huge space borne complexes, to truly mass produce commodities. THINK through a professional screen-written story line, to unravel the destiny of the galaxy.

  • X³: REUNION engine utilizes the very latest DirectX 9 graphical technology; pixel shader technology is used to create realistic reflections across a variety of surface types, while bump maps and specula maps add detail to the geometry of objects
  • A freshly developed economy system allows for more imaginative ways to conquer your foes via commerce. Functions using established business models of 'Elasticity of demand', 'Economies of scale' and 'Return on investment'. Factories are constructed by non player characters, which can freely trade; wars in sectors affect the universal economy, while opportunities bring challenges to both novice and experienced players.
  • Over 200 newly designed models have been created for X³. Star ship detail has been massively increased; over 10 times greater than the previous game at an average of 25,000 polygons per ship
  • A new graphical user interface prevents less screen obstruction and faster access to all game options.
  • Completely redesigned X universe, with new high detailed environments including asteroid fields, dense gaseous nebulae's, star ship graveyards and much more. Players can fly much closer to planetary bodies; where space stations can hang in low planetary orbits.
  • A multitude of new technologies and weapons systems, make the player even more devastating in combat; multi threat targeting system allows for numerous targets to be pin pointed simultaneously.
  • Controllable via joystick, keyboard and mouse cursor; all are fully re-mappable giving the player infinite choice over control layout, which can be stored as custom profiles

The game is really slow. It takes forever to get anything done. It looks excellent though. I played the prequel to this, X2 and I played it forever and still didn't get anywhere. I thought this one would be better, and some things are easier, but it generally isn't my type of game. I bought it on a weekend deal though for 5 bucks so I'm not too upset about it. If you want to spend a while to build up a trade empire and explore, then this is your game.

X3 reunion is a game that is for the gamer with alot of spare time. If you cant make a commitment to be spending a huge amount of hours flying cargo ships and building trade routes etc, this game is not for you. it will also require a read through of it´s manual since the in games tool tip is nowere near good enough to explain every aspect of this complex game. it is hurtingly in need of a tutorial function. theres is also alot of frustration to be had with some of the aspects of the game .. such as the lack of autosaving and such things. it is increadibly irritating to have flown for 1 hour and then fail within a half centimeter when trying to board an ship and be blown to space dust, then having to redo the whole thing still with possibility of yet annother fail. on the flipside the game is really beutiful and youll be enjoying just cruising around the hundreds upon hundreds of space stations in the game. Its a game with a huge amount of playing time and gratifying gameplay. So if you are the type of gamer who isnt afraid of rolling up your sleaves and really " work " your game for a couple of hours this is for you. On the other hand if you seek action and cant stand minor frustrations or lack time or commitment for such a demanding game , steer clear nothing to see here.

This game got some horrible reviews, and from what I can gather they were deserved - insofar as the game was released with tons of bugs and a lot of other troubles with features, interface and lacking manual. Well, that is (mostly) all in the past. Did you enjoy the battles in Freelancer? Did you like Transport Tycoon? Well, then you might just love X3: Reunion! The major selling point of the game is the huge and realistic (insofar as a space-trading/combat game can be realistic) economic system of supply and demand. And of course the battles. Buy this game if you have patience and time for a relatively slow paced game, with a very steep learning curve, but which can be enjoyed for a long long time once you get into it.
