World War One is a very complex game which simulate almost every aspect of the Great War. The interface is a bit complicated but you should play this game if you try to modify history eraly 20th century!

My first board war game was Avalon Hill 1914 purchased in 1968. Not going to say how old I am. I was intrigued by this simulation however ws a little disappointed. The interface is clumsy, rules are a little vague, too many phases. I have restarted the Grand Campaign like 5 times because I never know ehen I can set up production, diplomacy. I alway have to check the little icons at top to see if i can do anything. Movement is severly lacking. Don't lose track of he unit or you have to start over with movement. The map graphics are great! Like the events idea. I have other AGEOD games like Civil War and ROP, but they seem so much more 'polished' then this one.

Load time is horrible on Windows 7 x64 with quad core and 8 GB of RAM. I thought I was doing something wrong at first.

Like I said I like the concept, but 'they' probably should have looked at Hearts of Iron III for help with a complicated subject. I do appreciate the flash back to a earlier time in my life.

One of better game of Ageod studio; born from a boardgame it gives a extreme deep to WWI simulating economy, internal policy, diplomacy, war planning, naval and air warfare. The random factors are given by a system of event cards. The game present a series of scenarios: minor scenarios + grand campaign; multiplayer option (LAN or internet game) is also included.

The latest beta patch you can find on ageod forum, will permitting to play this game also in PBEM, giving the opportunity to play the WWI just to foru players at the same time

Gold improves the game greatly, though it is still an abstract Ageod game. The immersion gained through gold is great. Though being a turn based startegy game, play can seem long and structured in a way which can make you quite early.

If you're a table-top General with interests in WW!, you would enjoy this game.

With the gold edition and additional patches WW1 game become very stable and very good game. The most important part of gameplay is the event concept. It does give very much replayability to the game. Other parts like combat rules(land, support, air and naval differ),frontage and the diplomacy system is well-thought. Overally AI is challenging and with the musics,it reflects the atmosphere of ww1. I highly recommend this game for players who likes HOI series or wargamers. After the learning part is passed, enjoyable game awaits for players.

Well, first things: This is a very complex game based around the boardgame (La Grande Guerre '14-'18), and it plays and looks so much like a boardgame. Also, whilst they claim easy to play hard to master I would wager that it actually is hard to play and would take a great deal of time to master!

There are so many different 'phases' of play, such as Diplomacy, game events, reinforcement and so on, that it becomes very confusing when you first start playing the game. There are quick tutorials, although all they really do is tell you how to move, reinforce and shoot - they go to no depth about the other phases involved in the game. The full manual is over 200 pages long - some reading, although there is a shorter one included with the game.

As with any game, you play, read and learn; this is the only way you are going to understand the games mechanics and concepts. If you are expecting a HoI type of game, then think again. As much as HoI is good, this game operates on a WEGO basis, turn based if you like. So forget what you are used to. There are not that very many World War One games on the market - its a difficult period to portray I think and I would say that WW1G probably is the master of them all due to its complexity and feel for the times, with some great period music contained with it.

So, despite that it is complex and the fact that you just cannot expect to understand it after a few scenarios, I think it is very good and well worth the price. I also understand that the Gold edition fixes and adds a lot of things, as the initial release was quite buggy (main reason I never purchased it two years ago), but it appears a lot more stable now than it was. Also it has a good community and it is still well supported by AGEOD, so that is always a good selling point.

I've been playing this game on and off now for the past 3 months and I am very pleased with this product from AGEOD. There were some initial performance issues but all were solved thanks to the hard work of the AGEOD team, Calvinus in particular.

The accompanying manual is well written and provides you with enough information to play the game, however if you have any advanced questions I recommend asking the AGEOD team on their forums. There is always someone there willing to help.

If you are fan of history (WWI, etc.) this is a must have for the hardcore wargamer.

The gold edition is a much improved version over the initial buggy release. AGEOD has done a great job trying to address the problems with this game and recently released another patch (ver. 1.08). Although not you finished, AGEOD has shown a commitment to getting this game fixed. With limited WWI grand strategy options, this is a must have for fans of the "Great War."

I found this game interesting in concept, but impossible to play. It might only be suitable for people who are looking to have a table top style war game experience with other serious war gamers online.

This is still the most buggy and difficult game in AGEOD's catalogue. The interface, though improved, is difficult to navigate and rather twitchy, and the tutorials are next to useless. In a game this complicated it is almost unforgivable. HOWEVER, there are updates on the way and, if all goes well, this game should be up to the high standards of their other releases. Hopefully.

Still a good game, but definitely not their best.
