Wizorb review

A fun little breakout game with a few RPG elements thrown in for good measure. Cast spells, fight bosses, help rebuild town. All set to lovely 8-bit graphics and music. Being a breakout game, this isn't the longest or most complex game out there. But with a simple asking price of $3 it's a worthwhile purchase.

Charming - but beware

There's no denying the charm on offer here but beware there are some mean levels later on (one took me longer to pass than all the rest of the game put together I'd reckon!)

The last boss is also brutal - but that's not really a surprise is it?

Wizorb is a fantastic and beautiful game. I love the pixel art, the classic gameplay, and even the challenging difficulty. There's a lot of bang for your buck here. Don't miss out on this fantastic game.

Ridiculous Value for something so cheap, although some of the design choices made the game much harder than it needed to be, Wizorb is a great game that had me captivated for over 10 hours. At that price, I can recommend it to anyone.

Fun little game you play for 15 minutes and put down again, it starts off easy but gets harder on the later stages.

Considering the low price, defenatly worth buying.

Excellent game if you enjoy Breakout/Block Breaker games. Overall it is a Breakout style game; so if you hate those games, then stay away. This does add in some RPG type aspects throughout the game, though. To include, trying to earn as much money as possible (and conserve it by not having to spend it all on extra lives and items) to rebuild your old town to its former glory.

It has charming retro 8-bit graphics that really work and the sound is done well.

If you enjoy Breakout, then this one should keep you entertained for a long time. If you're like me and only stand it for short periods of a time, it also is an excellent game to pick up. It is very simple to load it up and take down some levels and then hop back out.

This game indicates a rpg/Arcanoid type hybrid, but the rpg elements are not really effective. Any gold one gets in the game is quickly used for extra lives and bonuses, little is left to reconstruct the village. The actual game play is very "8 bit". Other games such as "Ricochet" have done a far better job at re-visualizing the "block out" type game. Pass on this one.

While first a title on XBLIG, Wizorb has made it's way to computers, and it's RPG/Breakout style gameplay is just as great as it was originally. You play as a Wizard who must go through stage after stage of increasingly difficult enemies while essentially playing breakout, and use your coins you earn in this way to rebuild a village. Very fun and cheap, extremely addictive.

A really unique and charming little gem that for the low price is a steal. This pixel art rpg take on Arkanoid is both innovative and nostalgic. The music is perfect and adds alot of charm to an already amazing game. The worst thing that can be said about Wizorb is that its short, but since its based on Arkanoid there is plenty of replay value.

Fun-looking, entertaining, but ultimately lacking

By johnaohara posted 2nd February 2012

Wizorb is totally as fun as the screenshots make it look. The pixel-art is perfectly done, the sounds works well, and ultimately, it's a great game of brickbreaker. That's precisely the problem, though. At the end of the day, you're still playing brickbreaker. The great presentation and RPG elements will fade after an hour or two. You'll then be forced to ask yourself "Do I want to be playing brickbreaker?"

If you're fine with that, you'll have a blast. If not, you'll enjoy it only as far as the old-school presentation takes you.

Wizorb is a fresh, lighthearted take on the breakout genre. The art, animation and music are all top notch. It is styled after an old SNES RPG in a fashion as there is a town to save, shops where you can buy items, gold to collect, and spells to cast. Though there are not any RPG elements in Wizorb in that there is no leveling or choices to make. But you can help the town by using gold to fix-up buildings, which will give you some perk or item, and you move from "dungeon" to "dungeon" where the levels take place. All in all it's a charming game, if on the brief side. But do not let that detract you from playing Wizorb as your time with it will be memorable.

For a long time I thought that the Arkanoid-style game can not come up with something new. However, Wizorb showed me that I was wrong. The game not only provides a compelling reason why it is appropriate to address the problems of Arkanoid-style game, but also trying to teach us, and that charity is good. But, still, the best thing is that this game is very fun! As a result, I think that this game is definitely worth every self-respecting player's attention!

Wizorb is an excellent Arkanoid clone with RPG elements. The 16-bit retro graphics are extremely charming and well done, the music is great and the controls are spot-on. This game can be very addictive.

Fun little game at an appropriate price

By b0n3m4n posted 19th November 2011

Wizorb is a fun little retro arkanoid clone. The animation was done by Paul Robertson known for his work on the Scott Pilgrim game and his hysterical videos.

The game in itself is somewhat low on content and really short, but everything is fairy well done. Anyone who would yearns back to the 8-bit days will feel right at home. As the music and graphics perfectly capture the essence of that era.

Gameplay-wise some classic arkanoid pitfalls have been addressed to mitigate frustration. The ball does not get stuck in endless loops and there is a simple magic system to help catch the last few blocks that are normally a pain to hit. Bonus levels and a simple background story keep the motivation up, just a pity that the game is over so fast. A leveling system, different kinds of magic and more variety in the enemies and bosses would have been a nice addition.

Beware that you need to install dot.net before playing and on windows xp machines some people need to turn audio hardware acceleration off to have sound.

All in all, for three bucks it's a steal, although content-wise it's only slightly above the many flash games you can find on the net.

Nice arkonoid type game, with bright 16bit like visuals and the control with the mouse is fantastic. Beats any gamepad any day!

Wizorb is a great Arkanoid !

By warlockkaal posted 8th November 2011

Wizorb is an arkanoid with classic pixel style graphics and a delightful midi soundtrack. You have the ability to cast spells making that last block much easier to hit. Truly worth 3 dollars.

RPG Arkanoid

Taking a page from the great Adventure/RPG/Break out games of the Turbo Grafx, Wizorb is the modern day evolution. Great game, fun twists, 5 Stars!

A throwback to the classics

By Desfore posted 7th November 2011

If you've ever played a Break-Out or Arkanoid style game, this game will feel very familiar to you. However, Wizorb takes the simple concept of Break-Out and expands upon it immensely. If you love classic arcade games, you owe it to yourself to pick this game up.
