Fun-looking, entertaining, but ultimately lacking

By johnaohara posted 2nd Feb

Wizorb is totally as fun as the screenshots make it look. The pixel-art is perfectly done, the sounds works well, and ultimately, it's a great game of brickbreaker. That's precisely the problem, though. At the end of the day, you're still playing brickbreaker. The great presentation and RPG elements will fade after an hour or two. You'll then be forced to ask yourself "Do I want to be playing brickbreaker?"

If you're fine with that, you'll have a blast. If not, you'll enjoy it only as far as the old-school presentation takes you.

Wizorb review

Wizorb is a fresh, lighthearted take on the breakout genre. The art, animation and music are all top notch. It is styled after an old SNES RPG in a fashion as there is a town to save, shops where you can buy items, gold to collect, and spells to cast. Though there are not any RPG elements in Wizorb in that there is no leveling or choices to make. But you can help the town by using gold to fix-up buildings, which will give you some perk or item, and you move from "dungeon" to "dungeon" where the levels take place. All in all it's a charming game, if on the brief side. But do not let that detract you from playing Wizorb as your time with it will be memorable.

For a long time I thought that the Arkanoid-style game can not come up with something new. However, Wizorb showed me that I was wrong. The game not only provides a compelling reason why it is appropriate to address the problems of Arkanoid-style game, but also trying to teach us, and that charity is good. But, still, the best thing is that this game is very fun! As a result, I think that this game is definitely worth every self-respecting player's attention!

Wizorb is an excellent Arkanoid clone with RPG elements. The 16-bit retro graphics are extremely charming and well done, the music is great and the controls are spot-on. This game can be very addictive.

Fun little game at an appropriate price

Wizorb is a fun little retro arkanoid clone. The animation was done by Paul Robertson known for his work on the Scott Pilgrim game and his hysterical videos.

The game in itself is somewhat low on content and really short, but everything is fairy well done. Anyone who would yearns back to the 8-bit days will feel right at home. As the music and graphics perfectly capture the essence of that era.

Gameplay-wise some classic arkanoid pitfalls have been addressed to mitigate frustration. The ball does not get stuck in endless loops and there is a simple magic system to help catch the last few blocks that are normally a pain to hit. Bonus levels and a simple background story keep the motivation up, just a pity that the game is over so fast. A leveling system, different kinds of magic and more variety in the enemies and bosses would have been a nice addition.

Beware that you need to install dot.net before playing and on windows xp machines some people need to turn audio hardware acceleration off to have sound.

All in all, for three bucks it's a steal, although content-wise it's only slightly above the many flash games you can find on the net.

Nice arkonoid type game, with bright 16bit like visuals and the control with the mouse is fantastic. Beats any gamepad any day!

Wizorb is a great Arkanoid !

Wizorb is an arkanoid with classic pixel style graphics and a delightful midi soundtrack. You have the ability to cast spells making that last block much easier to hit. Truly worth 3 dollars.

RPG Arkanoid

Taking a page from the great Adventure/RPG/Break out games of the Turbo Grafx, Wizorb is the modern day evolution. Great game, fun twists, 5 Stars!

A throwback to the classics

If you've ever played a Break-Out or Arkanoid style game, this game will feel very familiar to you. However, Wizorb takes the simple concept of Break-Out and expands upon it immensely. If you love classic arcade games, you owe it to yourself to pick this game up.
