The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut review

One of the best RPG's to come in years.

The story is top notch I am not going to spoil anything for you because it is a game that must be experienced.

The Gameplay is frantic and hardcore even the simplest of enemies will give the new player a decent challenge.

The overall thing I need to say is if you have not played this yet you must buy it.

An excellent RPG, with nearly all the elements one could expect from the genre. The lore of the game is vast, appealing, and well managed, the game art is very immersive, there are a lot of different things to do and ways to complete quests, which are themselves very varied and entertaining, not the average "go get that item, bring it back and then go to a cave and kill something", but instead, a lot of the quests make use of interesting aspects of the game, related more with social skills.

The gameplay mechanics, such as alchemy, are dealt with masterfully, even better than in the Elder Scrolls, in my opinion. The only aspects in which this game could have been better, are, more extensive side quests, a more open world, and better combat. I even prefer this one to the Witcher 2.

Not enough battles, not enough monsters. Battles are not exciting. The story is not so bad, but I would not recommend this game.

Ah, the Witcher. The game I would love to love. This is my third time picking it up in the past few years. The first two times I couldn't make it past the second chapter. I could rave on and on about the good stuff: yes, it's pretty. Yes it's nice to have a world where real people hate each other for real reasons. Yes, there is a LOT of character customization options. The flaws are there, however, and for me at least, they bog down the game to no end. 1) The fighting: As a few other reviews have said, the fighting is at first a breath of fresh air. The timed click events are unique to the RPG realm, as far as I know. The problem is the lack of fluidity. Want to cast a sign? Make sure that you're done with your swing. Want to switch styles? Make sure you're done with your swing. Want to ... You get the idea. Add this to the inevitable boredom that comes with all gameplay styles eventually, and I was craving an autoattack. 2) The voice acting: Normally, I would brush over this. But this stuff is BAAAAADDDDD. I respect the fact that it probably sounds great in Polish, but really... Youtube some cutscense if you don't believe me, then imagine those voices for 40+ hours. I have to listen to it in French so I don't punch Geralt. The problem is that if you don't read fast enough, you're toast for the rest of the conversation. Add this to the fact that there are a ton of cutscenes, and you've got a HUGE problem. 3) The storytelling: This is different than the story, which is actually quite good. You know when your grandpa used to tell that awesome story, then you try to tell it to your buddies and it just doesn't come out quite right? That's the Witcher. The tone is off, the writing style is off, there are words that are out of place for characters, there are words that are out of place for the world, it's just sad. No, really, I mean sad. The story really is relatively deep. But it is better told on the wikia site. 4) The girls: I've got no problem with a little hanky panky in my games, but this is nuts. It really takes away from the reality of the background. The problem isn't that girls throw themselves at you, it's that they throw themselves at you at oddball times and in oddball ways. It's mature, but in a sappy sense. Sure, you can ignore them, but you can't ignore that they threw themselves at you. 5) The supposed choice system: It's not that it's not there. It's that it's missing a key piece: neutrality. There was time and again where I wanted to say "Ya'll are idiots," and the only options are to pick a side. There might be a lack of a morality meter, but trust me, the morality is there. Again, this isn't a big deal expect for the backstory. You're a sellsword for god's sake! Act like one! I tried this game again so I would know what was going on when I gave the Witcher 2 a try. I plugged through it for that reason. It's palpatable for that reason. But for those of you looking for a fresh take on RPG's, look elsewhere. The pros where enough to garner a loyal following back in the day, but the cons will turn off those who weren't interested from the start. It's not a horrible game, but it's not one that ages well. Here's for hoping that #2 is better

This is a great RPG. The story is very interesting, and is not completely linear. The decisions you make will affect the main story. There is also a ton of side quests to keep you busy as well. The fighting is pretty simple, you have different fighting styles (strong, group, fast) as well as different four different weapon slots to choose from. To attack you simply click on the enemy but there is a timing mechanism as well. If you click at just the right time after the initial attack you can string together combos which helps keep the fighting interesting. You also will have to make potions as well as discover recipes for potions as some enemies are very challenging, and you need to boost your character's strength. Also, there is a fun little dice game to play (pretty much like yahtzee) that you can play against other characters in the game. You can earn money by gambling in this game, and presents another way to make money outside of the traditional ways in a RPG. Graphics are great, and the voice acting/sound effects are spot on. The only thing I didn't like was sometimes the map would get blacked out at certain points in the game, and I would have to exit and reload. If you like RPG's get this game.

without one of the best RPG game's ever made in terms of both plot and graphics.

I have played most RPG games available on the PC and the maturity level of the game is higher than most but it is handled is a manner that is both graphic but not puerile or insulting.

I've taken as an offer, for a good price.

Not bad but to compare with its siblings Gothic III or TES III - this piece does not have a "something", which I need to continue playing.

I cannot say that this game gave me anything

I love the story and gameplay. The controls have taken some getting used to and are still not my favorite way of playing. Which is the main reason I took a point off. Graphics are pwerfect. They do justice to the gritty feel of the game and it's story.

Witcher is a serious and demanding game. It's not easy and not a bit casual, it demands full attention from the player. It's a game for seasoned RPG players, and it delivers splendidly. The plot is very good and well made, which is a rare thing nowadays. It's clear that developers tried to cover all the elements as good as possible. And in this case I would say they succeeded. It's really hard to find flaws in this game, my only complaint could be the combat, which sometimes feel a bit clunky. Witcher is today's mature RPG from great studio, which supports its products with care - the enhanced edition is the best proof for this.

The Witcher is vastly improved by the Enhanced Edition, making a good game even better. The combat system is simple, but fun. The story is engaging and your actions play out in the story. All in all, an excellent buy.

I went into this hoping for something great, since the buzz around the game was kind of absurd. Unfortunately it boils down to a pretty generic hack and slash. While very good looking, there just isn't much to the combat, and the game itself is fairly predictable. I can't speak for it's sequel, but this game just is average all around.

The graphics are a bit outdated but it doesn't change the fact that this is a great RPG.

A great story line, good voice acting, nice characters that you can connect to.

The combat is very unique, there is a problem with it however. It's either you like it, or not.

Long side missions, which have a very good story of their own and unlike many other games they aren't just "Get me this item. Thanks".

For the price of $9.99? Hell yeah!

Amazing game. Great story line. Unique character concept that I haven't seen before. The necessary preparation before battles makes intel important and the battles challenging.

hands down one of the best RPG ever made.the level of detail from the character models to the level design is spot on. im only a couple hours into the game but i have only done a handful of story mission because the side mission are top notch quality. they don't just send u on delivery mission they have you doing meaning full tasks that make your feel like your part of the world the cd-software has created.

The Witcher is a wonderful RPG, I played the original version years ago and I am now playing the enhanced version again, having as much fun as I had before. Very interesting story, a challenging (if awkward) combat system, nice spells, nice dynamics. I true gem of an RPG that you can now experience for just a few bucks. Highly recommended.

Essentially this is the uncensored version of the game straight out of the box. If you were unaware that the game was censored by the publisher for the North American market, then it would possibly be good to warn you that this fantastic RPG does have some very adult themes including naked ladies.

That said, it's a game which deserves the accolades it received on release. It really is that good. I'm definitely not someone who loves cRPGs (turnbased is so much easier for old men with co-ordination problems) but I do make an exception for this title.

For the time, the graphics were very impressive and even now it's a beautiful game. The story arc and quests are intriguing. Your character makes choices where the consequences are rarely obvious nor morally straight forward. I've not read the books the game is based upon, but it's evident that this is a world with a rich background and it comes alive in the game. The only drawback I'd really mention is that crashes can be fairly common, so save often to avoid frustration.

If you've not played this game, immerse yourself and enjoy one of the finest RPGs made since cRPGs became the norm.

Fun game with a lot of stuff to do. Has a really good story. The enhanced edition improves the original game a lot by adding more polish and faster loading times to the game.

Amazing The Witcher pack! Includes 2 DLC + MapMaker, very good deal indeed. The Witcher is the best RPG of 2007, combines every aspect of RPG. Like most of other "best-of-the-year" games, this should be bought and played!
