World in Conflict: Soviet Assault is a true genre-bender - merging elements of strategy, first-person-shooter and action games - that effectively carves out a new "Action-Strategy" genre in gaming - a genre that has proven to appeal to all kinds of gamers, from action junkies to first-person-shooter enthusiasts to strategy purists.

This unique cross-genre design and universal appeal is what led global media to make World in Conflict the most critically lauded strategy game of 2007. The game swept the "Best Strategy" awards during E3 2007, claimed countless "Editor's Choice" commendations from the world?s top reviewers, and was the clear choice as "Best Strategy Game of 2007" during the end of year awards season.

World in Conflict: Soviet Assault promises to pick up where the original title left off, bringing more of the best to PC gamers around the world.

  • New Single-Player Campaign: For the first time, play as the Soviet army and follow the global invasion from the perspective of the motherland. World in Conflict: Soviet Assault continues the franchise's tradition of gripping, Hollywood-quality voice-over performances, tense and emotional storylines and unbelievable, cinematic storytelling methods.

  • Action-Focused Gameplay: The game?s unique design removes base-building, resource gathering and ?tech trees? in favor of fast, hard-hitting combat that focuses on tactical decisions ? much like an FPS ? creating a new genre: Action-Strategy.
  • Player Roles: Players will play as Infantry, Armor, Support, or Air specialists; multiplayer teams will need to master each role for maximum effectiveness.
  • Real World Super-Powered Warfare: Unleash the authentic military arsenals of the great military superpowers, such as tanks, planes, trucks, troops and helicopters -- as well as nuclear weapons -- from the USA, Soviet Union and NATO.
  • Bleeding-Edge Graphics: The latest version of Massive?s proprietary Masstech engine features advanced lighting and physics, utilizes the latest DX10 technology, and allows for full 360-degree camera control.
  • Complete Destructibility: As the battle rages, the world environment pays the price as every object ? houses, trees and more -- crumbles under the force of war.
  • Accessibility: World in Conflict: Soviet Assault's design, control scheme and free 3D camera make its action-strategy gameplay accessible to traditional strategy fans as well as fans of other genres, like action and FPS, who are looking for something new.

A complete departure from regular RTS games, World in Conflict is easy to learn and fun to play. Even better on multiplayer. Definitely recommended especially for multiplayer.

Although a fairly old game, wic still manages to keep up with the demands of gamers for outstanding graphics while, at the same time, making for a great game with a superb multiplayer mode. The servers are still well populated so pretty much at any time you will find a partner to play with. Also, the campaign is not to be forgotten : single player is a big part of this game, a part that stands out beautifully through a weaved story of the actions of both rusians and americans in the fictive war that started in 1989. There will be some memorable characters, some that will die, some that will prevail, most for which you will care.

Great strategy game. The units are all well designed, interesting gameplay mechanics (everyone acquires resources more-or-less equally, winning is up to your skills as a commander), and has a good single player campaign. The game looks and feels fantastic, with terrain deformation, the map could literally look like a warzone complete with large crater holes, burning trees, and ruined buildings.

Strategy gamers, this one is a must.

World in Conflict, as the name implies, takes place in the world of the Cold War period also. But do not exploit foreign elements or as a political game of this period often, World in Conflict poses a fictional war and focus entirely on the descriptions of fierce battles, with full kinds of weapons terrible destruction of modern times.

"Stunning" for graphic

Beginning in the game, only one word to describe the graphics of World in Conflict, which is "stunning". Can not imagine a real-time strategy game, again set in modern warfare, which could reach a level of graphics so perfect. This might be due to advanced graphics technology DirectX 10 reasonable?

Be aware that in a game of modern warfare tactics, the weapons will be launched very large destruction, with many pictures, explosions, smoke, dust, light effects and sparks from bullets, etc. ... this is a huge challenge for making graphics for this game, but in World in Conflict, which was avoided perfectly. Play World in Conflict, which means you are watching a movie overview of modern war a sharp one. Camera in the game allows players to turn 360 degrees, zoom up and down, close, back away. Looking back near the tanks, armored vehicles or troops, you can see the artists have been refine this path, from the upper turret or jacket pocket on the soldiers have not missed a details right now.

It's about details, but when viewed from distant scenery is very beautiful. Sky (the game lets you turn the camera toward the sky and down near the ground) covered with dark clouds, or sunshine beams down to the shadows of buildings, vehicles and people on the ground etc. ... No more majestic scenes that zoom and view of war is happening in the city, with fighter planes flying in the sky, below is a series of bullets fired up dense air defense, the ground explosions are right from every direction with hostilities.

Speaking of fire effects in the back to World in Conflict for the highest praise for the game. For a game of modern warfare tactics, nothing impressive fire effects. And maybe do not have any games like World in Conflict. Every object, whether it works or vehicles or artillery soldiers, can be blown, and blew fire blazing in the game. All effects are like a Hollywood movie and the player a feel for the devastation of war. Maybe someday you'll have to stop a bit short ton to see a peaceful town has still not come earlier to flower for Christmas day, the ruins now remain only the bomb craters, bullet holes and the dilapidated house in ruins.

The game is simply awesome. It's an excellent modern setting RTS that offers superb gameplay. There's quite a few "little" things that really add to the atmosphere. The voice work is excellent (Alec Baldwin), and if you zoom in to your soldiers, you can hear them chatting about nonsense; it's quite entertaining.

The only real downside I have to the game is that it can be a bit easy, even on hard settings. Sometimes I felt like I was mostly watching the battle (which was STILL cool).

I enjoyed this game thoroughly, but the additional Soviet Assault content seems WAY TOO SHORT. Only six extra missions. I also had wanted there to be a distinct division between the campaigns, not blended together as they are. On the other hand, the visuals are stunning. Whenever I come home from work and just want to obliterate something with artillery, this is the game I go for.

World in conflict is a very underappreciated RTS, in my opinion. To me, i got what it takes to be between the best games of the genre: good looking visuals, interesting story, a great mix between tactics and brute force, and a realistic take on reinforcing troops. Unlike other RTS games, you don't buid bases/factories, but call for reinforces on a set location. Multiplayer is really fun and competitive.

So, forget about starcraft and get this game.

World in Conflict is a real time tactical game that you don't need to gather resources and build barrack to produce your units. Instead, you can use reinforcement point to purchase your units. The reinforcement point is limited and grows slowly. Hence, every unit is very precious. Like the other game, your unit will become more powerful as it gets more experience. All the reinforcement units are airborne that you need to setup airborne area and wait for the transporter to drop your units. There are 14 missions for the USA and only 6 missions for the USSR. The graphics and the inter-mission videos are awesome. The combat is fast and intense. Every character in this game has its special personality. The story is interesting but not reasonable. If you are the leader of the USSR, I think that instead of invading Seattle, invading Alaska is more reasonable, since Seattle is too far to supply the combat units of the USSR efficiently. Camera control is another problem. I think that most people cannot get used to it since it is different from most of the other games' camera control. Overall, this is an interesting game. If will be even better, if it can let the camera automatically follow the view of the units.

Great strategy and depth to it. Let's you concentrate on strategy planning rather than resource gathering. Game runs smooth. Really enjoy it. Like the graphics and sound effects. Controls are excellent and work well.

This new take on RTS is a good one. Battles focus more on squad vs squad combat and tactics as opposed to resource collection and super weapons. The story is amazing with some of the best voice acting in any game. The game world is fully destructible turning peaceful farm towns into smoldering craters after airstrikes and large battles.

The Single player in RTS games is usually a joke. Not here, along with an amazing MP the campaign will hold you from start to finish. The missions never seem to get old and have just the right amount of challenge. One of the best games out today.

This game is getting old already but if your looking for a fun RTS war game I would definitely recommend this, its still worth buying. The Single player campaign is nice with a good story line and No base-building and don't have to worry about gathering resources the Multyplayer is cool as well. Its a fun game to get right into the battle and fight as the two most influential superpowers as the cold war gets hot.

A fun Cold War RTS with a good solid campaign with some interseting and diverse missions and memorable characters.

With no basebuilding and resources being limited it forces you to think quite a bit more than your usual RTS games. certainly recommendable.

Excellent modern tactical simulation game.

The singleplayer is fun and well writing, but a little bit short.

The multiplayer is funnier and you'll enjoy a lot of actions going on. Team work is a must. If you buy this, be sure to play on multiplayer.

The absence of base-building, the smoothness of commands and interface, the realism of actions are what I think to be important in this game

By DavidGil posted 8th Dec 2010

A good game, which is different from the norm in the sense that there is absolutely no base building or resource collection. All of the terrain is highly destructible and can be tactically destroyed, while units are air dropped onto the battlefield. As you play, you get points for various things and these points can be used to ask for reinforcements and as you lose units, these points are gradually given back to you.

The story is also good featuring the Soviet Union attacking the USA, with Alec Baldwin providing the narration.

This is a great real-time strategy title, one of the highlights of the last years for me. The single player is just perfect: the flow of the game, the story, the graphics, the gameplay, it all goes perfectly together to give a seamless experience that virtally no other strategy title has given me yet.

You should definitely try it out!

World in conflict is a fast paced action packed tactical game that takes place in world war three. The complete edition is a must have because in the original game the story was very one-sided. Overall its a action game but its uses a strong rock, paper ans scissor mechanism that will reward you when using the right units at the right time.

This is my RTS favourite game. Story is similar to Tom Clancy series, Cold War break out, US has been invaded by Soviet Union. In campaigns, US and Soviet missions are mixed, you will change side to play in turn. Missions are repeated such as: "Hey Parker, defend here", "Parker bombard this area", " Parker capture that position".... Nice graphics (especially you can destroy everything with physics effect) and original gameplay.

In multiplayer, heighten teamwork. Every player choose one of 4 roles: infantry, armor, air force, support.

If you like RTS, you will like WIC

World in Conflict is a great game. The single player campaign, with its immersive storyline, intense cinematics and fast-paced gameplay is a lot of fun.

The multiplayer is even better with a very wide range of weapons and tactical aids to use on the field.

Visually stunning and interesting storyline, but this is yet another mindless RTS; at the end of the day you just click around the map without any tactical consideration.

Very impressive game indeed, its often a feeling of been there done that with many RTS games but this title certainly takes a new approach and huge leap in the quality of the graphics. Although I love graphics sometimes the game suffers due to, too much emphasis placed in the graphics alone. Here you have the best of two worlds, jaw dropping graphics and great game play. This is a rare gem and one I would certainly recommend to anyone who loves a great RTS game.

You are a member of the United States Armed Forces, and you have received word that the Russians have attacked NATO. The U.S. military responds; unfortunately, this leaves our west coast relatively unprotected. The game shows a cutscene of Russian troop ships attacking Seattle, Washington.

No longer do you have to sit back and dream, "What if this happened?". World In Conflict supplies you with this scenario. But a game with this much scope

doesn't keep you hanging: it contains an extremely detailed Tutorial Mode which takes you step-by-step, familiarizing you with the controls of the game. The pace of the tutorial is top-notch: the next lesson does not proceed until you are ready for it.

You might be thinking in the back of your mind, "Ho-hum, another RTS game." Not at all. This game removes the tedious chores of both base-building and

resource-gathering, and instead places you into the meat of the game - combat. You don't command the entire war: instead you're in command of a small unit, and the AI assigns you specific Primary and Secondary Objectives for each mission. In order to proceed to the next mission the Primary Objectives must be met. The Secondary Objectives are optional; however, you'll find out later in the game that you'll receive valuable points for successfully completing those Secondary Objectives: which can be used toward special attacks such as artillery fire or a strafing run by fighter pilots.

The developers pulled out all of the stops for World In Conflict: the graphics are coded with nVidia-specific graphics commands, which has earned this game the coveted TWIMBP (The Way It's Meant To Be Played) Rating from nVidia. Smoke from fires and explosions appear frightengly real. Sound is completely accurate and realistic. The mouse sensitivity is superb, and camera movement

leaves little, if anything, to be desired. I have not encountered any framerate issues nor any crashes under XP SP3.

With the tediousness found in many RTS games removed, you'll find World In Conflict to be both enjoyable and immersive, and the price doesn't impose on your wallet. A RTS with as much action as this game has is well worth the purchase price.

Excellent modern strategy game. Multiplayer is a lot of fun with its different squads (infantry, armored, support and air) where you control only one at the time. This game needs you to work as a team and organize your actions before jumping in the fight!

The storyline is not bad, but the multiplayer is the fun part!

World in Conflict Complete Edition review

World in Conflict is a fun and interesting tactical warfare game. Although WiC is listed as a strategy game, it is indisputably a tactical game. There is no base building or resource collecting anywhere in the game. Your units are air dropped in, when you spend an allotted amount of requisition points. If your units are destroyed you will recover those points, but it will take time for them to become available again. WiC brings a lot of war together fairly accurately (and at the same time inaccurately), but it manages to keep it fun.

The game plays almost identically to Ground Control II. You are given objectives to accomplish your mission. Most objectives consist of destroy enemies at point X, capture point X, or hold point X. It sounds boring on paper, but when you get into the thick of it, avoiding enemy combat support, or holding a position against a much larger enemy force, it's VERY fun (and frustrating when you do something stupid).

Speaking of getting into the thick of it, WiC has an odd pace. At times it feels as if you could dink around all day near your allies, and at other times it feels as if you barely have enough time to manage your men. Along with the pace comes a fair amount of micromanagement. Sometimes your units do a fairly good job of taking out enemies smartly, and can get from point A to point B without too many problems, however there are times when the AI needs to be overridden. Fortunately you don't have a base to fuss about with, so your focus will always be on your units, so the AI isn't really a problem.

One of the more interesting points, not often seen in strategy games, is a fairly touching story. Soviet Assault makes shows a good balance of missions from both sides of the story, as well as the stories of the Soviet troops. I haven't played the vanilla WiC, but if it's the same with the exception of the Soviet missions and cutscenes, it seems that it would have been terribly one-sided.

Overall WiC is a great game. I have enjoyed every mission, and there isn't a single one that I regret having to go through (I only regret not doing all the optional objectives the first time). Slaughtering your enemies with napalm or carpet bombing has never been so fun.
