Mixed feelings - at heart it's a good game. Kind of an updated and faster moving version of the old Close Combat games. Biggest problem for me is that the game locks my system up repeatedly. I have to actually power off to get out of it. That's rare on an iMac and not a good thing. Putting this aside it's 3.5 to 4 stars.

Very good RTS with great graphics and very challenging and rewarding gameplay.

Only cons I have are the soundtrack not really being set to war times, more of an NES RPG...

And the menu interface could use some polishing. But neither affect game too much, the gameplay speaks for itself.

Haven't had a look at the singleplayer yet, but the multiplayer is incredible!

Awesome graphics, epic scale, meaningful effects (units more accurate if stationary etc.)

Similar scale to Ruse, but much better gameplay

The Cold War setting is rarely explored so it's a welcome addition to tactical wargame genre.

The game mechanics takes logistics into account, such as fuel and ammunition, and it is a step up from a clickfest that many other games force you to do. The unit variety and balance are great, so even the most expensive and powerful units can be defeated by less expensive units using proper tactics.

The single player is challenging, especially if you aim to get all the secondary objectives, but it forces you to think and makes it more interesting.

The developer has released two FREE DLCs introducing new game modes and maps, which shows the amount of labour they have put into the game even after the release.

Highly recommended!

This game is pretty great! Easily overlooked by many, W:EE is a solid and fun wargame/RTS in the vein of World in Conflict and R.U.S.E.

Strongly suggest picking this up if you enjoyed these games or similar ones. The in depth persistent career helps keep the game fresh and new.

Excellent game!

The tactical combat of this game illustrates how fast modern combat really is, and how fast

your armoured vehicles will run out of ammo and fuel! (Make sure to pay attention to supply).

This game is difficult at the start (even on easy) and gets ridiculously difficult in later

missions. It has a very realistic stats for all vehicles from the early 70s to the mid 80s.

I like this game a lot, but I have yet to try the multiplayer.

Added realism is a cool thing!

This is another game which does not set a new milestone in its genre, but which does a lot of things perfectly right. The programmers invested a lot of time to painstakingly research a lot of Cold War weaponry and classify it by its weaknesses and strengths.

I love how you have to play each class to its strengths to get a win. The difficulty in single player is already rather steep, this one is not a game for beginners, but it really shines in multi player, where the tons of options give it a high replay value.

There is no boring base building, it is all about buying units and blasting other stuff. Well-placed cheap units can turn the tide of an entire battle, hidden infantry (woods or cities preferred) can take out the most expensive tanks with a single close range shot - the way it should be!

One thing that is really missing here is air support. While you do have choppers, the game should also allow air strikes, but they do not exist.

Great game for MP!

This is an great tactical RTS for Multiplayer. If you have any interest in Cold War combat and settings and would like to see how combat would have worked out in a roughly battalion sized setup, this is a fun game. Unlike RUSE, instead of controlling overly abstracted high level formations, in W:EE, you control individual tanks, or infantry squads. Engage at combat at long distances and with units that can see quite far in open fields but limited view distances in forests and all sorts of tactical considerations such as ammo, armor piercing, morale and fuel in a wargame.

If you played World in Conflict and wondered how a more realistic version of that game and with less Rock-Paper-Scissors/mirroed sides would work out, I strongly suggest you pick up W:EE.

I grade it 4 stars however, it loses some points for a merely average single player game and there are some missing features and functionality in the UI (such as a separate reverse button, change facing and different game modes). Also, currently, at the date of this review, there is no working Skirmish AI in Multiplayer. You can play Skirmish against the AI in Single Player, but the AI is currently very weak and much work is to be done.

The successor to RUSE, with a slight World in Conflict feel to it. Fancy yourself an armchair commander? Well here's the chance to test yourself. Brilliant tactical RTS, needing an in depth understanding of unit counters and how to best use the weapon platforms at you disposal. Very challenging AI will push you during the fairly good campaign, and multiplayer is fantastic with friends.

Also runs great on most systems.

This game is great! It reminds me of classic Strategy games like Close Combat. I wasnt a huge fan of RUSE. Considering this is a spiritual successor to that game i was glad to see they have taken it a different direction. It feels less like a boardgame/move countermove and more like a strategy game where you are the general looking over the battle map controlling your advance. The game runs great on all hardware i have heard. I havnt had any issues at all myself.

Great

Unlike Edlennion Ive only played single player and that is awesome AI is far harder than most games and each mission is a challenge, if you lose a unit you cannot replenish within that chapter so strategic thinking and careful planning are a must.

The units are fantastic with a huge range fairly realistic. All in all a fantastic purchase and a day one purchase i dont regret.

Not bad

It isn't bad. Its starting to grow on me though. Still prefer WiC. The game is also quite buggy still, especially with Dx9/Dx11 (hoping it gets sorted out). The maps however leave a lot to be desired since they're all virtually the same.

Best rts of 2012

By leviath posted 27th February 2012

After a big disappointment with R.U.S.E which was about spamming stuff and stacking them then crushing enemies forces, I was afraid to feel the same with WEE.

But no, WEE is a very big improvement. It is a very tactical RTS, you have to be very careful in any moves because a simple unit loss can lead to a big defeat.

To some extent it's more similar to MoW than R.U.S.E. You have a system of points that you earn by controlling areas on the battlefield. With these points, you can bring new units on the battlefield.

You can bring infantry, tanks, helis, AT and AA vehicules, and logistics. Supplies are very important in this game, you have to refuel and resupply ammos very often or you will find yourself stuck in front of the enemy without ammos.

There are 370 units in the game to unlock with stars you earn by leveling up. Then you can build a deck of 25 units for each side (OTAN and USSR ). You can only use the units of your decks on the battlefield.

The campaign is a kind of big tutorial, not very interesting and surprisingly very hard.

The main feature of the game is the MP where you can fight until 4v4 on a few maps. These maps are really too few and there is a big lack of variety but it should be changed soon according to devs.

I higly recommend this game if you can play it with mates online since teamplay in MP makes this game awesome.

I would easily rate it 8/10.

Awesome!
