WarhammerŽ 40,000: Dawn of WarŽ II Chaos Rising review

A great adition to DoW2 which implicates a scale. either you can shoose to do evil deeds, thus adding to your corruption scale but if you choose to do good deeds it will instead add to your redemption scale. The different scales allows you to equip different items found in the world, some of them requiring a certain corruption level and vice versa. Overall a great addition to the origianl.

A good follow up. Nothing amazing over DoW2 but its a solid continuation. I am a goody goody so the corruption aspect didn't feature much and so I played much the same. This isn't a bad thing however and I still really enjoyed the single player campaign. Once again I can't speak to multiplayer.

I'm a big fan of Dawn of War and Dawn of War 2. If you are unfamiliar with Dawn of War 2, It is a squad based RTS that focuses on combat rather than base building and resource gathering.

I enjoy mixing up strategies by deploying my different squads and leveling them up with different skills. I've played this through twice already and I still enjoy it.

Added from Dawn of War 2, Chaos Rising adds the Corruption/Redemption scale, so you can decide to take the high road or sink to Chaos's level; gaining their power, but losing your soul. The choices you make in this expansion will have consequences in the next expansion, Retribution.

On that note, This expansion did not expand as much as I thought it would. In multiplayer, you can now use Chaos and Tyranid units. Supply crates in missions now drop different types of supplies. And there's the Corruption scale. ....that's about it.

The original Dawn of War 2 had constant retaliations from opposing forces. It was up to you whether or not to accept those missions and defend your planetary assets. And you had many limited opportunity optional missions available to you at once. This greatly expanded the game. In the Chaos rising expansion, it is much more linear and you rarely have more than one mission at a time.

I think it also would have been nice for a Chaos mission track to be added if you decided to corrupt yourself. But no dice. It looks like the next expansion, Retribution, will offer campaigns for all races involved, so I'm looking forward to importing my characters from Chaos Rising and having more endless hours of fun. (between DOW2 and Chaos Rising I've played over 300 hours.

Many players became quite attached to their customized squads by the end of DoW2's 20-hour-plus and Chaos Rising takes this into account.

Interested players can import their DoW2 squads, complete with previously earned gear and customized skill trees. Alternatively, those who pick up Chaos Rising without having played the original start out with a pre-made level 17 squad.

Either way, your starting gear becomes a moot point pretty fast after a few quick battles, my new Marines exceeded my old troopers in both level and loot.

much worth add on for Dawn of War II, easy to play,

the new race is a great addition to the previously low number of four. Thus adding much more diversity to the game. and the new campaign is great for those who liked the story dection of dawn of war II.

Pros:

- Compelling Corruption mechanic;

- new heroes in Last Stand;

- new Chaos Marines race to play as in skirmishes;

- original game not required to play;

- good expansion overall.

Cons:

- The single-player game is more linear than the original game;

- not enough new characters in the campaign;

- new Chaos Marines race might seem to similar to Space Marines for some.

I found the expansion to be just as enjoyable as the original if not more so because of the different choices that were open to you as you went through the game. The main reason for this is that the quality of the story telling more then lived up to the original which really helped to add to the game experience since it allowed the plot line to flow from Dawn of war 2 to Chaos rising seamlessly. Also the chaos corruption mechanic not only brings an new interesting mechanic to the game it also helps increases replay ability.
