    FEATURES

Universe at War: Earth Assault is the next sci-fi real-time strategy game from Petroglyph, the award-winning studio comprised of team members that developed the original Command & Conquer and C&C: Red Alert. The latest strategy game from these RTS pioneers features unprecedented levels of customization and an epic storyline set on near-future Earth.

Powerful forces from across the universe have brought war to our planet. In Universe at War, you take command of several unique factions with awesome powers and spectacular units. Control massive-scale alien war machines that are fully customizable. With "Tactical Dynamics," Universe at War's on-the-fly customization system, you can dynamically swap out weaponry, rework your tech tree, and retrain units in the middle of combat to thwart your foe and seize the advantage.

Universe at War features large-scale environmental destruction in a persistent world - level a city and when you come back, the area will still be a smoking ruin. Here, though, the environments you fight for are close to home, as you wage war across familiar Earth cities and landmarks.

Universe at War also introduces numerous innovative new multiplayer features inspired by today's top MMOs and competitive online games, giving players achievements, rewards, and medals in a balanced environment with intelligent matchmaking.

    Features:
    •    Unprecedented unit and faction customization give players the ability to change units and research in the middle of combat to overcome any challenge
    •    Unique multiplayer achievements that improve players' online avatars
    •    Unique multiplayer game modes
    •    Environmental destruction and manipulation in a persistent world
    •    Dual-layered gameplay featuring intense tactical battles and a strategic global mode where players manage resources, consolidate territories, and maneuver armies
    •    Real-world, modern-day environments
    •    Three unique factions with different play styles and abilities
    •    Special hero units with unique abilities
    •    Massive-scale units that dwarf conventional RTS units
    •    On-demand UI that doesn't clutter your view of the battle
    •    Developed by Petroglyph, makers of Star Wars: Empire at War.

This game is disappointing. There are many problems, including awful performance during multiplayer games, but the main problem is Games for Windows Live. Limited key activations means you can only install the game once, the installer doesn't even work as downloaded and requires manual patches, and nobody plays online anyway. The community around this game is nonexistent and it has been abandoned by its developers. It's too bad, too. The game has a good concept with a fun story, single player isn't bad, and it has pretty nice graphics for the time. It also has a great soundtrack. If the game hadn't been crippled with the awful Games for Windows Live software, it would've been a decent RTS.

A traditional and conservative RTS that doesn't take many risks design and gameplay wise, but takes all that makes other games in the genre so good, making a very well built game. The story, although not a very good one, is solid enough to entertain while it lasts, and the diverse achievements will give you a lot of replay value and make you look for strategies to get them. The Games for Windows LIVE Client is a plus, and works like a charm. The animations and models are very good taking into account the relatively low system requirements. The animations and battles are very good and intense, and the difficulty curve, although a bit steep, is nothing impossible.

This is actually one of the worst strategy games I have played. There is no feel to it the combat is forgetfull and everything feels slow and unfinished. Stay far away from this

A classic-style RTS that feels like a combination of Red Alert/Command & Conquer and Starcraft, but with interesting mechanics such as the Hierarchy's mobile walkers and the Novus flow. Top notch graphics, intuitive interface that minimizes annoying unit-by-unit micromanagement (I'm looking at you, Warcraft 3) and a decent campaign makes this a great game for any RTS game fan. It's too bad the Games For Windows Live (GFWL) experiment ruined UAW's multiplayer. Originally, multiplayer required a paid GFWL Gold account. Obviously a flop from the start, considering there are plenty of other similar RTS' out there that give this service for free. Luckily multiplayer is free now, but player count is low. I'd give this game 4.5 out of 5. It loses 1/2 a star due to: GFWL, a few minor interface issues (units knocked back by Hierarchy grunts' melee get removed from their unit group! plus a few other minor things) and possible balance issues (literally infinite resources for the Masari just seems wrong, whereas Hierarchy and Novus have to constantly scavenge the map for resources).
