Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 - Launch of the Screaming Narwhal

Rating: 4.3 (63 votes cast)

The saga begins with a heated battle involving the brave but often bumbling Mighty Pirate™ Guybrush, his beloved wife Elaine, and their nemesis, the demon pirate LeChuck. When the showdown goes up in flames, Guybrush finds himself marooned on a strange island with winds that always blow inward. How will our hero manage to escape this meteorological anomaly? What has become of LeChuck and Elaine? And what's the story with the infectious voodoo pox that's spreading across the Caribbean, causing Guybrush and other pirates to act like unruly hooligans? These are just some of the many questions posed in this first chapter of one of the most rollicking and rip-roaring entertainment experiences this summer.

Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 - Launch of the Screaming Narwhal review

By eva3000 posted 29th March

I haven't played any of the previous Monkey Island games but became a fan very quickly. If you are already a fan, I cant imagine that you would be disappointed. Although the first chapter is a bit awkward if you don't know the story and controls need getting used to, the plot and characters pull you in very quickly. I was frustrated on occasions when I didn't know what to do with some seemingly random objects or underestimated the importance of some ridiculous conversation choices. Some of the things just didn't make much sense. Soon I realized that the game in its own humorous, quirky way was actually very logical. I liked almost every subsequent chapter better than the previous one, which in my opinion is the best way to enjoy episode games.

A game to enjoy, it keeps the same humor as the older games, and the riddles mantain the same style plus the graphics are decent enough.
