This game is finished. Don't buy it!

By mogqwai posted 19th April

I bought this game about a year ago, and at first it was alright. Driving around was cool, as was the casino stuff. The car handling is very difficult but not impossible to control.. just very stiff and hard to do, in my opinion, compared to many other driving games I have played. The graphics are pretty good as well. The main problem, however, is that the people that made this game are gone, as is any kind of proper support from Atari. If you buy the tokens to unlock the dlc, and uninstall the game (I had a bad crash a while ago, and lost everything on my hard drive) then try to re-install it, everything you bought disappears. You will lose all you spent your money on, and Atari will not re-imburse you. I strongly advise people to stay away from this game as it can steal your money and return you with nothing you paid for. This game is a prime example of why the business model Atari uses with gold tokens is a very bad one. TDU@ left a very bad taste in my mouth for paying for online dependant games and because of what happened to me with Atari I will not be buying games like this one again. Purchase at your own risk!

The game is not fun. The driving physics is weird, especially in rain. Scenery is pretty, but not very destructible. Cutscene, outdated. Racing and challenges, repetitive and not fun. TDU2 tried to be a game of everything, and fails in achieving nothing. The car collection aspect is the only thing that may keep you playing, after which you will most likely uninstall and move on to something else better and more entertaining.

Massive Game, Massive Game, Mostly Good

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is an ambitious game and succeeds... for the most part. The game presents you with a MASSIVE open world, consisting of 2 islands, to drive around in. There are plenty of cars to choose from, some limited customization options, and more events, challenges, and championships than you can shake a stick at. The environments you get to drive through are gorgeous and a joy to cruise around in. On the down side, the game performance is pretty poor, so have a good rig or be prepared to play on SUPER LOW settings just to get a decent frame rate. Also, the developers made the confusing decision to scrap the custom radio station that existed in TDU1. This is compounded by the fact that there are only 2 radio stations in the game, meaning that you will be listening to the same songs again and again and again and...

A nice game... It seems Need For Speed (any of them) in how you can control the car... The houses are a quite expensive, but a casual players can buy them all with some time playing... The great problem in this game is the online mode... It`s quite diffcult find your friends in the game, even if the game shows them playing, even if you teleport to their position... But it`s a fun game, not a simulator game, but it could be very better than it really is...

Firstly , this is my first Test Drive game, and I usually play need for speed games.

When I saw the screen shots of this game , I was impressed by the visuals this game had to offer, not too good, but again praiseworthy.

I love the fact that that there are many Cars to drive , And im glad to see the Zonda Tri Colore , one of my favourite rides, ingame.

I love free roam , discovering all the roads, and finding car wrecks scattered all over the map.

And to make things 2x fun there are two maps Ibiza and Hawaii, personally I like Ibiza at the moment, Im just used to it.

Casino is a fun way to earn a few collectibles for your avatar, Like clothing, Furniture for your purchased Houses, etc etc.

Bikes have been added to the game so if you want them you can buy em through dlc, 1$ per bike.

DLC is pretty cheap in this game. any car part of Dlc package costs 80 atari tokens and it sums up to 1 usd.

Okay why do I rate it 4 stars?

Personally the whole feel of the car while your driving is not the same as that in NFS series, And I dont like it because im more used to the need for speed experience.

The game story doesnt have much to offer, gets monotonus after a while.

Leaderboards of every event have hacked times , atleast top 200 in most races are hacked times.

Avatar customization is a restricted, all you can do is choose from 6 faces, 3 female , 3 male, and their races being caucasian, african, and asian.Plastic surgeons do offer visual changes, but these are small, and dont often change your appearence by that much.Hair Dressers dont have that many styles to pick from. [Personally I love Saints Row the third's Avatar customization]

Overall , I think its a decent game worth buying at 15$ or less, [I got it for 6$ when the sale was on]

Whilst TDU2 isn't the best port, it's still a playable and even interesting racing game with a bit of extra content. Whilst the focus of the game, largely, is on the racing and various events, you have the rare ability to change your character's looks, clothing and so on. You buy houses, you can customise your cars - it's really quite fun.

It's not as complex as Gran Turismo, and the handling can often leave a lot to be desired (I use a 360 controller), and some cars feel almost impossible to drive, but if you want a racer that's a little bit different then this is the game to go for.

If you want a serious racer, however, I suggest Racedriver GRID.

The graphics are really great and the presence of a story makes the game very exciting. The control system is a little hard at first but then you get used and the overall experience is definitely satisfying.

The game is worth its price and purchased during an offer is definitely a must buy.

kind of over rated driving game, but lets get to that in a minute..

the good- a BEAUTIFUL game, and it is probably the BEST 3D racing game on the marketbecause it was designed from the ground up TO be played in 3D. the area is HUGE and the cars do handle really well, not perfect mind you.. but really well. the races are not easy or hard, and once you complete the tutorial part of the game you should have a fairly good understanding of how to win at them.

not so good- this isnt a pure racing game.. it has alot of features an effeminate sissy-boy would probably like. for example since there are 4 ways to level (racing, exploration, style, social) there is probably something everyone will hate. for me it was the social and to a lesser degree the style aspect. i dont see why if i am supposed to be trying to defeat my enemies i should get to know them on facebook! yea, you are actually supposed to raise your social level by having a club and friends on facebook.. IN A RACING GAME! the style also.. WHY? its a driving game! why should i have to specifically buy new pants for my character to wear to increase my style points?! its just .. i cant find an appropriate word to use.

if you can get over the less than good parts of the game there IS alot of really nice driving to be done, otherwise you are probably better off looking for a straight racing game.

You are set in a huge gaming world, island of ibiza in spain and later on if you wish hawaii, and you get to drive expensive and not so expensive cars in races, just driving, missions (go that place with this car without damaging it, or carry this person to this place within this time). You can do races also online. The game is beautiful and huge with a very large number of vehicles available. There is a main storyline, but nothing to worry about. You can literally take a car and just drive, explore the huge islands and drive like that for hours. Great game.

The game is great if you have a wheel and a good pc. Then this game wont be worse than tdu1.

In my personal opinion, tdu2 has way better city/enviroment/roads placement. And All those A B C cups are more interesting to compete than in previous tdu1 game.

Sound - 7/10

Graphics - 7/10 (there is no dx11 or even dx10)

As a fan of the first TDU I must say the sequel is such a disappointment. I only bought it because it was on -75% sale, it is not worth the full price in my opinion.

What's bad, especially when compared to the TDU1:

- story - boring, irritating, unskippaple cutscenes

- driving model - it was already rather arcade in first part, but now it simplified even more. So forget about your steering wheel and plug in a gamepad.

- bugs - game crashed on first run, my car was rocket-launched to the sky after collision with another player, I saw traffic cars disappearing suddenly; all that at first day of playing

- extreme high system requirements - graphics is not so much better than it was in the previous part, so it is hard to understand this

So why I finally bought this game? Apart of that it was on sale for only five euro, it is somewhat unique. It is always nice to cruise through paradise islands in luxury sport car :) Roads are no more angular so your car does not jump or scratch asphalt on hills like it used to in TDU1. Also day/night cycle and good looking weather effects are great additions. And if you have decent graphics card, views can be OK on highest detail level.

If you don’t mind problems I described, you can have some fun with TDU2.

This game is full of both pluses and minuses. It offers incredible freedom, but the story is a joke. You can customize your avatar, but the car customization is somewhat lacking. It allows you to choose from three difficulty settings, but the key challenges have a fixed "normal" difficulty, so playing on "easy" won't prepare you for them. The controls can be redefined, and should be, because the default setting is... awkward at best.

That said, I'm still giving this 4 out of 5, because of the amount of content, and the "let's explore one more piece of the island" mood. :-)

PS: The HDD requirements are closer to 16 or 17 GB.

TDU2 is the kind of game that involves you and relaxes you at the same time. When you are at home, maybe it's raining outside, I think there is nothing better than to get to drive a luxury car in an island full of details and places of entertainment. TDU2, in addiction to competitions, offers a fantastic landscape that makes you enter the beautiful sensation of driving and where you can find clubs, houses, casinos, dealers etc. .. Very nice game in multiplayer to challenge with other players or to meet new people. I highly recommend the purchase ;)

PS: There are no bikes, but there will be in the future DLCs

What do i say about Test Drive Unlimited 2. The first game (TDU) looked great and was buggy as hell. It seems Atari & Eden Games have followed that theme and amplified it by 100.

TDU2 looks amazing. It's a joy to watch. It has the best maps and scenery i have ever encountered in a racing game. The huge amount of miles you can drive is brilliant and it's all real. There are no cheesy run of the mill race tracks. It's all real world stuff.

In fact it's so good that you overlook the very old driving physics and painful cut scenes. Somw have said how pointless the houses, furniture, clothes and trivial items are in the game - i found this fun. Money is an awesome motivator.

Now - Some forums i encountered had posts titled "Do Not Buy This Game". There is hate for all types of games out there, but i had never seen it like the hate for TDU2. Why ? I wondered.

Here's Why:

1.Crash. Monitor switches off. Only solution is to hard reset the PC.

2. Unable to get online. Atari servers (much like the game) dont work.

3. Random Erasing of your Saved Games. Can you imagine playing a game for 20 hours (not including the 30-40 crashes) and then having all that progress erased !

There are literally thousands of forums troubleshooting this game. And some work. Most dont. Atari seemed to have washed their hands of this buggy, dirty game.

Without the constant crashing, without erasing all your hard earned progress i would have given this game 5 Stars. I dont car about the handling. You get used to it. I dont care about the pitiful story line - It's an open world racer.

Final thought: I love this game. But unfortunately it is simply unplayable. Try your luck with the PS3 or 360 version. They have a little less problems than the PC version.

Racing game extremely addictive!

But much more than a simple racing game simulation in this game to get stores to buy their cars, local tuning, haircuts, clothing, and some other myriad of things to do from a game are incredible.

Do not be surprised if your playing time exceed 200 hours here, so easily to play and fun provided by the single and multiplayer environment.

Some have given this game negative reviews or at least mediocre reviews but I can't understand why, I started to only give this game a 4 star rating simply because I am somewhat stingy with my 5 star ratings but I started thinking and I could find no reason to give it less than 5 stars. Some have complained that the story is weak, well okay maybe but with a game like Test Drive Unlimited 2 its not all about story, the focus of the game is really the cars and getting to drive them, race them single and multi-player I might add and collect them. Not only can you do all of that but you get to buy houses with big garages to put your collection in, how many racing games let you do that. I haven't played the game for very long just yet but what I have seen of the online community it seems to be welcoming to new players (you can't say that with all games), it seems to be alive and well and it is integrated nearly seamlessly into the main body of the game. That means if I want to race against a friend online, I don't have to go launch a different part of the game and I don't really have to change the style of playing that I am already using in single player, I can go challenge someone I see driving down the street who is a real player not a bot by flashing my headlights at them, I can look on my friend list if I have friends and invite someone to join me, we can even walk around outside the cars and look at each others rides, I can open the doors and such on his car and look inside, and when I had the door opened on this one dudes car the menu said I had the option to get in, I don't know if I could take it for a test drive or not I didn't see that option. I have Test Drive Unlimited as well as this game but of the two Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the clear winner for me, the graphics are nicer, the online part seems to work better and the game just feels way more polished and user friendly than Test Drive Unlimited. Well that's my three cents worth, I say this game is well worth the price of admission whether you get it on sale or at its regular price which is also pretty decent. Oh and any reviews that say that the handling on this game is bad must be used to some strange game that does everything for you. I am using a MadCatz generic wired XBox 360 Controller and it recognized it as an X360 controller immediately and the in-game handling of the cars I found pretty comparable to the more recent Need for Speed titles. If you try to play with just the keyboard and a mouse I can imagine that that might be difficult for about any driving game but there are those who do it and do it well.

I deliver only 2 stars.

I bought this pc version after playing the PS3 version for a while. I usually like games on the PC better. It seems because my computer is a little older now that its not able to handle the video that this game has. If you have a newer computer that has a good graphics card it is a great game. I know its a great game because I love it on the PS3. I honestly find that the graphics are better on the PS3 but that just might be the settings I have it on the PC. If you have a PS3 I would recommend you get that version instead of the PC one.

To start this short review.. The human models in TDU2 are pretty darn creepy. Having set that, you'll find a very solid racing game here, controls are smooth, cars are many and it runs great on my modest system. If you're looking for a good race game to just race the day away, look no further. Even more so now that it's on sale.

I feel cheated by this game. I played many race games, but in this one the cars are impossibly difficult to handle, even with a game-pad. I can't pass even the first license -- after trying many many hours, I emerged from the game irritated and feeling cheated. I then passed some more hours searching for a trainer (I found none working with the Gamergate's version of the game). Too bad, I already spent to much time on this game without the slightest pleasure in return: uninstall and forget it as quickly as possible.

This game is the best racing game I have ever played.

Where did it go right? I think it has to do with the social aspects and open world of the game. In other games you simply select a car and a track then race other racers around a looped track until someone wins. On this game you have a large open world where you don't have to be always racing, you can just drive around and enjoy the view.

When it comes to races there are a variety of them. If you join a championship there is a vehicle restriction. The three types of vehicles in the game are Asphalt, which are high performance on-road vehicles, Classic, which are hard to control somewhat slower on-road vehicles, and Off-Road, which are somewhat slower vehicles used for offroading, but offroad can reach higher speeds than any other vehicle.

When racing in championships there are several types of races. Regular races where you race a certain route, first one across the finish wins, elimination races where after every lap the person in last place is eliminated until on one survives, speed races, where you must maintain a high speed for as long as possible, accumulated a score which must be higher than the other races score, camera races, where you must pass cameras at as high a speed as possible past several cameras, the player with the highest average speed wins.

When not racing in championships you can challenge other players to races. In a regular 1vs1 challenge you can put down a bet of money before the race, the player who wins takes all. Or you can choose a race location on the map and join or create your own race with multiple races. There's a nice feature there too, where before the race the players can walk around their cars on the road, checking out eachothers cars and seeing how much tuning each car has on it.

There are also small missions you can do. Such as driving people to their destinations and giving them adrenaline rushes by driving as fast as possible.

There are also hidden 'packages' around such as locations where you have to take pictures and car wrecks you can find where finding all car wrecks unlocks a new free car you can own.

Another feature of the game is the Casino DLC which you must buy separately for about $10CAN. I really like the casino, you can play the slots there, trying to match up certain pictures to win the lottery, you can play roulette, betting on numbers to try to win more money, or my personal favorite, poker, where you play against real players for in-game money.

If you have any interest in racing games or even just cars, this game is a must own. I bought a $230 steering wheel just so I could enjoy this game to the fullest, buy it.

This review is for version 086 build 5.

I was blown away by this game. There is so much to do here. It is rare that I feel that spending as much as I did, that I still got a bargain. The only real disappointment was not starting off in Hawaii or at least not being able to travel there until I achieved a certain amount of points. You can play this game for the racing, you can play it for exploration, you can even play it to socialize with people online. To be successful at this game, you need to do all three plus find and collect cars. A lot of people have reported problems with the controls. Right away, I could feel what they were talking about. You can adjust the sensitivities of the controls until you find something that works for you. You can also go online and ask people what settings work the best for them if you have trouble. If socializing isn't for you, you will miss out on a lot of what this game has to offer. I am not using the socializing features, and I am still having a blast. If you do not want to play online, you must restart the game after the introduction, and create an offline profile. You will have to replay the introduction, and complete a storyline race again.

This game more than outdoes itself when you add the online features. Even if you want to play it offline only, you will still have your hands full.

Fantastic game. Absolutely huge amount of features and content. Improved handling, physics and traffic over the first game. Ibiza island is a bit on the small side, but then the Hawaii island have received a big upgrade over what was in Test Drive Unlimited 1. A lot of new racing circuits, tons of nice multiplayer event and things to discover on your own. The amount of pure discovery objectives has been really well expanded, making the more relaxing aspects to the game a lot deeper than before. Really well implemented and way more structured single player experience this time, with a completely bizarre story and cast of characters. It has sadly lost a couple of the PC specific features the first game had, like TrackIR for in-car head tracking, and the wheel support is supposedly spotty at this time. Although I have a Logitech G25 and it's working wonderfully (have also tried 360 controller and keyboard control options extensively, and these work equally well). Despite some early problems with servers and what not this game has delivered beyond my expectations as a huge fan of the first game. I heartily recommend buying some garish clothing, have plastic surgery and joining me with your bandaged head online driving around the myriad roads of Ibiza and Hawaii.

Normal racing games do not really interest me that much, but i have to admit that TDU2 is really good.

The cars are beautifull, and the island(s) are simply huge. Its also nice being able to spend your money on tons of new cars, tuning, upgrades ect. or maybe even buy your own house.

The game map is fantastic and i really like the way that the map zoom out and in in real 3d, so one moment you are on the map then when you are finished the game automatic zoom in on your car in real time and off you go. One tiny bad thing is that some engine sounds are rather poor it does not always sound like a car but you can live with it. One good advice "when you create your profile choose online profile since the offline profile can NEVER go online so if you at one point want to try online mode you have to start from the beginning of the game..and create a new profile.

Can change commands, etc- but not all the commands it starts with are intuative..also I personally dont like some of the structure and of course the lack of card depth (Aka, changing engines and stuff would be nice) but for what it is it's ok and it's very pretty and runs quite smoothly at max settings on my 2 year old PC (Q6600, 4gigs ram, GTX 285, Win7X64)
