Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction review

By sentientphil posted 22nd February

Very cool game... The story was fairly good, a little cliche, but not as unimportant as the previous Splinter Cell games... The only thing I missed was for more ability to truly do things your own way... It was a bit linear, and a bit predictable with sentry patrol movement, and only a few places to get off of the ground, or under the ground.. Apart from that, LOTS of fun, and I have played through many times...

A little side note: UPlay didn't acknowledge my acheivements from the game or launcher at all, and tech support had to have screenshots as proof that i had completed the required steps and manually added the points onto my account to unlock stuff ingame... It MAY possibly be because my password contained special characters because once my password was changed (as advised by tech support too), it worked fine..

Conviction takes a different approach from the previous series, everything is more streamlined and the new take down system I thought was pretty dumb. Not that bad of a game if you solely play it for what it is, but if you have played Chaos Theory, this is a step down.

Overall a step in the right direction, IMO. But then again, I was never a fan of the "wait around for 5 minutes while the guard stands there and finally decides to walk away" mode of play, even if that is more realistic. This kind of game play gives you more freedom to attack and fade away, and just generally makes Sam more of a bad@$$.

Two qualms: the game is short, and the controls (on PC) are just awkward. I played about 75% of the game before I finally hooked up a PS3 controller to my computer out of frustration; I immediately felt more at home with the controls, and proceeded to die less in the final 25% than in the previous 75%. Weird.

I'm a big fan of stealth games, I enjoy shooting enemies in the dark and being amused when they are trying to find you. This game is perfect for me, it runs great, the visuals are awesome and for me, it is a very enjoyable game. It has easy levels and hard levels. I'm a big fan of the Splinter Cell series, this doesn't let me down.

The latest of the Splinter Cell series is the most shooty of them all as Ubisoft tried to breath some new life into the aging formula. I don't really know if the publisher succeeded with this choice but I can safely say that I enjoyed the stealth parts a lot more that the shooting parts in Conviction and when I could I would use stealth over an all guns blazing approach. Silent takedowns into awesome executes with a silenced pistol is always a treat to watch on screen.

The game isn't big but it's certainly enjoyable. Works very well controlwise either with mouse / keyboard or XBOX360 controller and has some extra meat in the form of Co-Op missions and various modes. Graphicswise it looks excellent taking advantage of the Unreal Engine and doesn't demand a very high end PC to show its magic. This the typical case of a good game but just that nothing more.

Great story, great visual style, fun take-downs and mark-as-execute system. The latest in the Splinter Cell series is definitely more action-packed than previous iterations and that is certainly a welcome change. Don't get me wrong, the game is still tense and suspenseful, but the developers have managed to make it more fun to play at the same time. I love love love the new visual style and the game's presentation is definitely slick. I haven't tried multiplayer or co-op yet, but if it is anything like past iterations, I'm sure it will be a blast!

Splinter Cell conviction is a rewarding game if you like more fast-paced action than other Splinter Cell games. Me, as an more stealth person when it comes to Splinter Cell, didn't quite enjoy this as the other games in the series

Good ACTION Game (no stealth)

By eldivino87 posted 27th July 2011

When this game came out I thought it wasn't going to be that good, but then I was in GamersGate and had some extra money. So I said what the heck why not try it. When i came home and played it I really liked the story and co-op story. Overall I really liked the game and would definately recommend to a friend. Concept was good, execution was good nice change of weapons.

If you like action, stealth, story, get Conviction. You won't regret it.

The CO-OP is amazingly fun and I would recommend it for any gamers who like faster paced action and stealth killing.

Actually it's pretty good!

SC:C got a lot of hate for the gameplay changes, most of it is unjustified.

Splinter Cell was THE stealth franchise, but, to be honest, with double agent the formula got pretty old.

SC:C cut back the stealth elements and added a lot of stuff in the action and story department. It's not so much a stealth game any more, look at it as a Bourne movie game, without Jason Bourne. You sneak around, chase people through Washington and shoot dudes. The story is engaging and interesing, the art style is brilliant, and well...it's fun.

Put aside the memories of Sam watching guards making their rounds and embrace the violent nature of the new Sam!

The story mode alone will take about 6hours, but coop and multiplayer modes will add at least another 10hours, so it's worth your money.

Go, buy it! It's fun! :)

If you're a hardcore splinter cell fan, you won't like this game. It changes too much of the core gameplay that made splinter cell famous, i.e. sneaking around and not using your gun!

However, in all honesty, conviction is actually very fun. You just need to keep an open mind and approach the game as if it were some other game, not a splinter cell game. The plot is great, the gameplay exciting and relatively polished. I only have a few minor complaints, that is, the inability to connect to other people to play multiplayer (pretty big downer really), the too-powerful melee attacks (since you don't need to be behind people, and can even hit someone front on and kill) and the fact that sometimes you can kill people while making a lot of noise, but somehow other people don't hear it simply because you're in the dark...

The game may feel like it's a step backwards from it's predecessors but the change in Conviction freshens up the Splinter Cell series.

Visuals have gone through a major overhaul. The missions feel more action-packed than stealth but the choice is still there.

The Co-Op however makes up for most of the game. It's really fun having someone else playing with you while completing missions. You can have the most memorable moments in the game.

So for I haven't come across any problems with Ubisoft's DRM. As long as you are connected to the internet (My connection speed is 4MB), then you are fine. Then again, everyone is always connected to the internet 24/7, right?

This game is much better than I originally thought. Yes they made it easier to shoot enemies but the AI is MUCH better than before, and yes it might be possible to complete the game using stealth moves, I think it would be very difficult.

The co-op in this is tweaked for the better too, and all the different game modes really make it fun.

Level design is amazing too, as is the detail, they put alot of work into it.

No Splinter Cell fan should skip this. It might even be more fun than Chaos Theory.

5 out of 5.
