Tarr Chronicles review

Tarr Chronicles is a decent space shooter with an interesting upgrade system.

Graphics are quite good all around - the backgrounds and ships are nice to look at, and the cinematics are of good quality. Sometimes parts in the ship editor seem to be positioned a bit off to one side, or clip with the ships hull, but this is just a minor flaw.

The sound quality is good, and voice acting for the most part seems okay.

The gameplay works well - the ship handling feels like a combination of Freespace 2 and Freelancer. Personally I found the game provides a fair challenge without becoming frustrating. The ship customisation and range of weapons and defensive components add depth to the gameplay and help to keep the game interesting as you progress.

Overall Tarr Chronicles is a fun game, and for the price it's definitely worthwhile.

Game itself was pleasant after all patches had been added. Ship building was good and it gave good option to make ships for your preferred play style. Controlling the ship was easy and game difficulty was nice, but could have been bit more difficult. Only thing I didn't like was it was bit too short. This reminded me a lot old wing commander/starlancer/privateer games.

It's a good game, pretty good graphics. the story suffered from it's translation, I think they missed some of the finer meaning to it. The chatter dialog was really confusing, I could never figure out what the plot was supposed to be about, especially in the Guardian level. The ending was a real cop out too, it didn't explain anything or even why it even happened.

Thing wing men were pretty good overall, they didn't get in my way much.

All in all I enjoyed it, and I will buy the sequel at some point.

This game is a hate and love relationship. Fortunately for me, I love it more than I hate it. Firstly, the visuals - it's on the wow level. Second, the background story - it's way cool. Third, the interesting dog-fights. I know, the game may be linear from a mission stand-point, but I can live with that - there's lots of eye candy that I get to gog at. And, the other complaint could be the voice chatter and mis-translations... I don't really let that detract for me. Make sure you patch the game (there are 4 provided by Gamersgate)... I am on Vista and duo procce, but have had no crashes so far.

I think Tarr is a game with some problems.

Itīs a deal for his price, this is true but itīs totally linear, you canīt decide nothing in this game. You have a mission to complish and you canīt go farther from this.

The mission are good, the better of the game is the posibility to configure your ship with the equipment you want.

Graphics really good, but it cost to go through the story.

Finally I have played in Vista you can play, but the game crashes every two missions, thatīs something a bit frustrating.

So a good game, with some frustrating points, that would have needed a bit more work to be stable in every paltform.

I bought the game with Dark Horizon for 3 bucks during the weekend sale. I thought this game would be an open non-linear space sim. I was wrong. You do not have the freedom to go where ever you want. It is purely mission base, think cod4 but in space. The voice acting is decent and there is a lot of radio chatter that really brings the atmosphere to the game. Its not a bad game at all just don't go in expecting a open world to explore.

WoW!!! I LOVE THIS GAME! I am so happy I found this. It runs fine on my Windows XP system. As an avid fan of many games in this genre, I am glad to have this game in my collection.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with all versions of Vista and it cannot be uninstalled! I will admit my Vista machine did not like this game too much.

The graphics and gameplay are great! I hope to see another release from this game developer.

This game would be great if it werent for the all to prevalent bugs and the terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE, translation to english. They actually got some decent voice actors but really saved money on the translation part. The bugs are also really starting to annoy a great deal, so this game must be patched alot more. I also suspect some memory lekaing here, without having looked into it properly of course.

If, in a perfect world, this game had a good translation and ironed out most of the bugs, then I would give this game 4 to 4,5 out of five stars. But as it is right now, with the first patch installed it only gets 2 stars.

Bare in mind that I am a space-sim fan, but not so fan as to enjoy this game as of yet.

Tarr could have been a great game, alas its seems its not to be.

Don't get me wrong its not a bad game and once they fix crash bug i'll finish it but has alot of problems.

Ok First thing that really bugs me, there is tons of voice chatter in game, from tactics to mission info, and the voice actings fairly good, problem is the scripts have not been translated well, almost every single line of voice sounds like its been translated by google.

Npc's also are very shallow, rather then in say WC

when you could go to the bar and chat with your wingmen and other npcs you never see them other then in flight and you really don't interact with them other then follow orders.

Tarr seems to have gone for quantity rather then quality for ships, rather then having 5-8ships with unique character they bombard you every mission with 1-3 new (versions) of the same ship, same with drives shields, weapons etc. so sure you have alot of options but they are almost all the same.

I've played through 6 missions so far and have stopped while wait for patch, am told there is a known problem with running tarr on vista using duel cores causing crashs during movies.

On a final note, thing that to me really kills this game is the translation,it really does not seem like they even had anyone fluent in english even look at

the scripts.
