Crazy fun... but short!

By Vyranthas posted 28th January

I really enjoyed making my way through this game. The shooting mechanics weren't the greatest, but the game looked great and had a cool, fun vibe to it. Unfortunately, it was very short. I believe it only took me about 2 hours to finish - maybe even less. If it had been longer, I would have given it a higher score.

They are Alive! review

This game is clearly based on John Carpenter's "They Live" and although you won't be spouting one-liners or suplexing people onto cars, you will beat them to death with mufflers while sporting shades.

The graphics are serviceable, almost pretty in places and it runs just fine on Win7 x64. Enemies heads 'pop' with visceral satisfaction while the animation and physics serve their purpose. The brawling action is simple and easy, offering almost no challenge to the FPS fan but the shooter aspect can be hard in places.

The game doesn't really play up the story arc much, it's just a progression of linear levels. The sunglasses are merely an associative gimmick; there are two areas you need them to progress, otherwise they are useless. The whole game will take a few hours to beat but that seemed about right. I enjoyed my stay but was happy to leave.
