Old buildings and structures are becoming obsolete and need to be upgraded or even replaced by their modern counterparts. Cars and transportation need modernization to meet the needs of a changing economy; and now El Presidente can even send people to the International Space Station! El Presidente and his ministers must now join the war against terror and control Internet regulation and freedom of speech on Tropico.

Tropico 4 Modern Times Expansion Pack review

Has a lot of additional content, but it is pretty static and adheres to a strict "unlocking" timeline. If you don't mind that though, it does it well enough and the content is fun and entertaining (like most of Tropico 4!).

The first thing that this expansion screams to me is value.

It upgrades almost every aspect of the game, adds several buildings, several wonders, several events and a new campaign to play with. The campaign is neither here nor there in terms of quality and the jokes are passable at best but the campaign isn't generally the main feature of Tropico.

About the only downside, however, is that when you reach certain tech stages some buildings become obsolete. Towards the end-game it is often a good idea to replace your stylised cities with some rather ugly looking buildings purely for the efficiency.

Upgrading and imbalance included, however, the game is still a very valuable addition to anyone who enjoys the series.

An excellent standalone for El Presidente.

The timeline is a very nice idea to implement the new buildings. It's always nice to see those skyscrapers in your city. The only downside of this extension is, this is too easy now. The new buildings like financial center make you the richest dictator on Earth without so much effort.

But Tropico is such an unique game, the pleasure of capturing some ecologist is always here !

This game is a great expansion pack. It has made many of the islands feel more modern and its great improvements that can be made. I am a bit disappointed that the upgrades can't be made directly onto some of the buildings, though due to size differences it would not be possible at times. Great improvement on the game though.

Its a very good expansion with modern buildings and a longer campaign. However, I wish thier was more additions such as more control over the military and the ability to hunt rebels in the jungle as well as to conduct military operations in the jungle. Furthermore, I wish the game allowed a world like map where we can attack and occupy other islands with our military. The economy is doing better by allowing car factories and other options. Basicly it adds more details and options to the previouse version.
