Star Fury review

i had several attempts to start with this game. then i crashed in something or died in battles and had been frustrated. but as i'm interested in such type of game i tried again and again. and after developing the habit of saving often and earning some credits for upgrading my ship it went quite fluently and fun. enemies drop good equipment so that you have to buy only some modules and the money for a good starship is earned fast. i have not traded but done missions and selled loot.

the graphics are "indie style" so dont expect stunning visuals. but the gameplay is quite fun and challenging once you are into. i miss some convenience features (autopilot/course plotter) and the long term challenge/task. but this game gave me days of fun.

Oldie, but goodie. As a starship captain you'll be exploring the furthest reaches of space in search of fame, fortune, and adventure. You might think upgrading your starship with high performance tech will be the advantage that keeps you alive — but that really isn't enough. In a galaxy filled with warp points, unfriendly aliens, asteroid belts, and cosmic storms, teaming up with large fleet operations might be your only chance for survival. Will you be a respectable trader or a bloodthirsty pirate? Your actions decide your fate in a hostile universe!

This is a decent little game, in the theme of star empires and perhaps comparable to Starfleet Command. It's at least worth your blue coins at the current discount.

Good little game, uses the mechanics of star empires. Comparing this to any game of the 'elite' franchise is unfair, I feel, since i remember playing it in my MSX 20 years ago and the game was better than this. Oh sure, the overwhelming ship slots and availability of items is there, but larger does not necessarily meand better. STILL, the game is 2 dollar, so it is worth giving it a try.

Have you ever played an old game called star flight on the old Sega Mega Drive console? if you have this is like the super updated version of it! Pretty much the same as other space flight sims except that you control everything from a 3rd person view. It has the same concepts like ship upgrades, Trading and doing missions over a vast area with a multitude of planets to vist and trade with. If you have played space empires it follows the same theme with alien races and ship styles..There are a few mods around for the game but they are hard to find.. all tho if you know what your doing you can make mods for this game easy, even add and change ship styles in game .. seems to be more mods for space empires then this title. So if you liked space empires and are looking for a diffrent twist too it this one is worth grabing.

Partial about this game here too. Even thou it is a 2003 game, compatibility with XP is so so with sometimes graphic glitch (menu blinking, said to be because of resident programs using popups, hopefully no glitch in "safe" video mode from game setup + windowed mode, but max res is 1024 then).

Some reviews compare some part of it to Elite. Having played that series, even the horribly bugged Elite First Encounter, i say FE is better than Space empires Starfury thou much much older. It has a feeling of Elite and Battlecruiser 3000AD but it does not deliver that much. Thou for its price it is 100% enjoyable.

Controls are very very clunky, graphics are totally outdated (more like a 1995 game than a 2003) but if you dont mind the previous the game gives you good fun. Its sandbox and you can do whatever you want between the assigned mission in one of the 3 campaigns, set in the Space Empires universe background.

I would recommend this game for casual gamer, since the hardcore gamer used to this genre of "spacesim" will probably be disapointed.

3/5 stars, -1 for clunky navigation controls and -1 for graphics

First off I need to say I am partial to this game. I have windows 7-64 bit and it works just fine. So if you are worried about it working on a 64-bit OS you don't need to worry. The graphics are outdated but the game play is good. The game is modifiable. You don't have to follow the campaign and can go around doing your own thing but you better have a good ship with a good setup of components if you choose to do that.

The bad about this game is the sounds can get annoying. You can replace them. The music can drive you nuts. You can replace that too. I would also have liked more to do in the campaign. It's not short I just want it to go on for longer. Also in the campaign it doesn't remember what you do. It is linear. So if you destroy something, like an enemy spaces station, that is to be destroyed in a later mission when that mission starts the enemy space station will be there again.

There are a few mods out there for it. One that is really good is the Stargate mod. It covers the SG-1 and the Atlantis time lines and is very good. Except in that mod you pretty much have to use the ship they give you and it changes from time to time.

All in all this game is a good choice if you like space combat and configuring you ships components.
