Rating: 4.1 (25 votes cast)

In a world beyond imagination...

In their immeasurable greed and constant thirst for power, the thirteen most powerful Mages of all time doomed the land, hurling it into an endless spiral of chaos and despair. Entire countries were wiped out in the blink of an eye when the devastating power of the Elements was unleashed - Elements summoned by dark rituals. Continents shattered like glass, the pieces strewn about like leaves in the wind. Huge armies, bound by the the power of ancient runes, brought war and destruction to the lands that survived the initial onslaught. All that was left were a few islands, connected by magic portals.

Now, only a few years after the end of the Convocation, evil is back - stronger and more powerful than ever before - to finish what was started.

Yet there is still hope. The prophecies tell of a human. A human damned to immortality, bound forever by the power of the blood runes…

Soon, the time will come when the power of one may change the destiny of many.

Spellforce The Order of Dawn review

Got this game with the blue coins I had built up from buying other games. Glad I got it. Nothing special, but a good way to while a way a few hours. Kind of 'Age of Empires, meets 'Dawn of Magic'...kind of. For under £3 you cant really go wrong.

This game does a great job of blending two different genres into one. That said, it has its shortcomings. Neither is fully fleshed out and the UI could use several improvements, namely hotkeys. But overall, it's a game well worth getting if it intrigues you. A bit of interest goes a long way here. Just be ready for that long way-- this game took me around 60 hours to beat. Well worth it in my book, especially for its low price.

Spellforce The Order of Dawn review

I bought this game when it was first released around 2004 and loved it! Great blend of RPG and RTS, great graphics (considering when it was originally published), decent story, the user interface is easy to pick up and master (has a nice, stand-alone tutorial storyline to teach you), multiplayer capability, and open sandbox type play as well.

There are also two expansions for Spellforce, Breath of Winter and Shadow of the Phoenix, both enjoyable. There is a second generation version, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars, and it's expansion Dragon Storm available, too.

The Spellforce Universe came back to the front of my mind about a year ago when word was heard that a second expansion for Spellforce 2 was in the works, Faith in Destiny, due to be released sometime in 2011. Sadly, JoWood has filed a bankruptcy type proceeding, and I'm not sure it will ever be released (though I keep hoping that it happens somewhere down the road).

I highly recommend any of the titles in the Spellforce Universe. I enjoy replaying them, and would love to see more titles like them. I find it very similar to World of Warcraft 3. And at $4.95, the price can't be beat!
